Do you need Xbox Live Gold to play GTA 5 Online?
I updated my game and some of you may know that GTAOL is out today. I went to the online tab in GTA 5 on the menu page and it said "Your gamer profile does not have the correct permissions to access GTA online". I currently have the free membership. In TLAD, GTA IV, and TBOGT multiplayer is free. So why wouldn't it be free this time?

I have a gold card that I got with my xbox but when I go to GTA V online it wont let me play and the reason is "Your xbox live isn't setup correctly" or something along those lines. Does that have to do with me not paying for xbox live or another reason or both?

There are two Xbox Live memberships: free and gold. In the past, you needed a gold membership to do just about anything on Xbox Live, including use entertainment apps like Netflix or ESPN. That's changed recently: now you can use a free account and still access streaming video apps and things like Skype. A free account also gives you access to the market, where you can buy games. You'll need a gold account for multiplayer. Xbox recently changed gold accounts to be a little better bargain by offering "Deals with Gold" and "Games with Gold", programs which offer discounts on some games and content. A gold membership costs $60 dollars a year, which as others have noted comes out to $5/month. Here's a link to a decent chart showing what you get with a gold subscription: Xbox Live Gold. You do have to either buy an Xbox Live membership, or a PlayStation Live membership to be able to access the game, unless you’re playing on PC which is free other than the cost of the game its self.Other then that, the only thing that you need to pay for in the game is more money, aka shark cards. They’re overpriced, and with all the expensive items in the game 10,000,000 dollars wouldn’t really get you very far, which is why I discourage it.Is it worth it? Eh…. It depends on how much time you spend on GTA Online, and if you will use the online membership for any other games. I use it for GTA, Black ops 3, and some need for speed games, and I find that xbox live is extremely worth it, after all the time I’ve logged on those games playing with friends and whatnot.

Im not 100% certain but it sounds like you have parental permissions on. I could be wrong, but check your settings. It seems that you mights have it enabled and forgotten.Or it could be that or your account might be affected by xbox banning your account by hacking, or other rules being broken. Do we need to pay anything to play GTA v online on PS3? How much? Is it same for Xbox and PS4?
You only need to buy GTA 5 to play it online on PS3. On Xbox 360 and One you have to buy a subscription service to Xbox Live that differs in price region to region. On PS4 you need to buy PS Plus subscription. If you have the option go with the PS4 and One version of GTA 5 because even with the additional price of subscription you are getting a vastly better deal.I’ll explain how. Xbox Live and PS Plus give you 2 to 4 free games every month and in recent months both have offered high quality AAA games at no additional cost. That’s Bloodborne in March on PS Plus for you. There is the performance boost to keep in mind as well. The PS4 and One versions run at a more stable 30fps that makes for a more pleasurable gameplay experience. The world is vastly more detailed in these 2 consoles in GTA 5. GTA 5 is not going to get any updates on PS3 like it does on PS4 and One and hasn’t got them for quite sometime now. Go for the PS3 version only if money is tight, else either the PS4 or One version are wayyy better.
