Do I Really Have To Be 17 1/2 To Take The Permit Test Without Drivers Ed

I got my CA driver's permit at 17 1/2. Do I have to wait until 18 to get my license, even if I get my 6 hour behind the wheel certificate early?

I just came upon this, but I thought a correct answer should be here. Assuming CA means California, the answer is “yes.” If you are under 18 you must hold your permit for six months before you can apply for a license. So if you don’t get your permit until you are 17 1/2, you will be 18 before you can get your license. You won’t need driver’s training then, but taking it is still a good idea since it can help you be a better driver and maybe you won’t tailgate me on the freeway.

Can I get my drivers license if Im 17 1/2 and I only have a permit and online training?

Since you didn't need drivers ed at 17 and a half, I assume you are in CA. You can get the permit at 17 and a half, but you can't do the drivers test until you are 18.

If you are over 17 ½ but under 18 years of age, you may get your permit without the driver education and driver training certificates however, you will not be able to take the driving test until you turn 18.

Once you pass your written test, you will be issued a provisional permit.

A parent, guardian, spouse or adult 25 years of age or older, who has a valid California driver license, must be with you when you drive. He or she must sit in a position close enough to take control of the vehicle, if necessary. It is illegal for you to drive alone at any time.

I am 17 1/2 and just got my learners permit, do I still need to take a driving lesson (from a licensed instructor) if I plan to take the road test after I’m 18?

(Answer Edited for clarity): You are not required to take lessons from anyone, even a professional at this stage. If you have a responsible adult who is 21 or older that will be giving you lessons on the road, make sure the person has a good driving record (clean of moving violations) and has a reputation as a safe driver. Hiring a licensed instructor, even through a driving school, can get a bit expensive.Safe travels!

Can I get my learner's permit and driver's license on the same day in California even thought I'm under 18? I already got my permit for at least 6 months but it expired.

No.To be successful in obtaining a CA DMV issued driving license you must complete the license permit process without allowing your permit to expire.Because you have allowed your permit to expire you will have to reapply and repay to have the pleasure of redoing the permit process yet again. Once you do you will be eligible to obtain your license.How to Renew an Instruction Permit

Can u take the drivers test if u are 17&1/2 and have completed DE/DT but have not held a permit for 6 months?

Your age doesn't matter. What matters is that you have to hold your permit for 6 months first.

This is from the California DMV website:

To take your driving test you must:

* Be 16 years old
* Have held your California instruction permit for a minimum of six months
* Have completed driver education
* Have completed 6 hours of professional driver training. Select a driving school
* Have completed 50 hours of practice with an adult 25 of age years or older. The adult must have a valid California driver license and certify the 50 hours of practice. At least 10 of the 50 hours must have been done at night.

This is what I found about being 17-1/2:
NOTE: : If you are over 17 ½ but under 18 years of age, you may get your permit without the driver education and driver training certificates however, you will not be able to take the driving test until you are 18 years of age.

Can I get my license at 17 1/2 with no drivers ed in California?

I am currently 17 and my birthday is coming up, November 16. I have received many different answers on whether or not i can get my license at 17 1/2 with no drivers ed. My friend told me you can go straight to DMV and pay a fee of $33 and take your written permit and if passed of course, you would go and take you test to get your drivers license without drivers ed. Others have told me no you need drivers ed if your under 18. Well, what is the answer? I really need to drive right now so my parents must know if i can go out and get my license right now with no drivers ed or do I have to wait till I am 18 in 2 months? What do i need if I can get it right now with no drivers ed? Explain the process please.
