Do Layers Make Your Hair Look Healthier

Do layers damage your hair?

I have long thick hair and as of right now its all one layer. I was thinking about getting layers to help thin it out a little, and I like the look. Someone told me that it could damage my hair, and I'll get split ends faster. Is this true? It took me a while to grow it out so I'm really hesitant to cut it at all, but the thickness is ridiculous, and I don't want to thin in out, so layers are the only thing I can think of. What do you think?

Will long layers make my hair look longer or shorter?

Layers will help the top and middle portions of your hair remain bouncier and more voluminous, while keeping the length at the bottom. It will add tons of dimension to your hair and allow you to create so many styles and looks that you want to achieve. Cutting layers is healthier for the ends of your hair and also makes your hair grow much faster than if you were to leave it long. The only reason layers would make your hair look shorter is if you cut the length off of your bottom-most layer. But as long as you have a good hairdresser and they know exactly what you are asking, it should turn out great!

Right now I would say your hair is "long." It's long enough that if you WERE to cut it short (take off 8 inches to donate it or whatever) it would be extremely healthy, but not as versatile for all the things you want to do with it. I would recommend cutting off 1/2 inch or 1 inch from the bottom. And for the middle layer have the longest pieces of the layer 1 inch or 2 inches higher than the bottom layer so that the other layers fall into place in different spots. Then for the top where your crown is, I would suggest different length layers varying shorter and longer ones. That way you can tease your hair to give it that bounce and height, or you can let it lay down and still have that length.

If you don't like a lot of hairspray I would suggest using a spray in volumizer, mousse, or some kind of product that holds whatever hairstyle you are trying to use. They have ones for straight hair in 3 days in a spritzing bottle, and they also have sprays for holding curls. You apply them to damp hair, then blowdry and it usually holds in the desired texture and look without the use of a sticky hair spray. I hate hairspray too so I avoid it at all costs!

Also, to make your hair softer, use a daily conditioning balm, and let it set for at least 3 minutes. Try to blow dry your hair as little as possible, but when you do, end it with cold air to increase the shine and brilliance of your hair. I would also suggest using a serum by CHI or BioSilk for the ends of your layers where your hair cuticles are, so that they stay healthy and shiny even when using straighteners, curlers, or any type of heat.

I hope this has helped you!

Do layers make your hair look thicker or thinner?

The best way to add thickness to your hair is honestly cut it pretty dang short with layers and let it grow out keep the layers. Your hair will look so much healthier and thicker, its worked for me and everyone i know. Layers always add volume. Also try tipping your head side ways and blowdrying the roots from underneath to give it some lift. Hope this works.

How do you cure dandruff and make hair look healthy?

Dandruff is a very common scalp condition that is caused because the layer dead skin get clumped with the sebum on your scalp, and appearing as white flakes. White flakes in the hair can be quite embarrassing, and is not really a major health concern. However, if you have excessive dandruff then it can point to some sort of dermatological problem on your scalp. You will find that dandruff outbreak is seasonal, when the weather is dry you scalp tends to flake more - this means cooler months. If you have mild dandruff, then you can manage that at home. Regular washing and brushing your hair will loosen the flakes and clean your scalp. Use an anti-dandruff shampoo every alternate day to clear away the flakes. Look for a shampoo with ZPTO or Zinc Pyrothone which prevents yeast infection on the scalp. You can also use tea tree oil blended with a light carrier oil on your scalp to prevent scalp infection, and greasy dandruff. It also leaves the hair looking and feeling silky and healthy.Apply yogurt or curd on your scalp once a week. Leave that on for about half an hour. Wash off with an anti-dandruff shampoo. This also restores shine to dull hair. You can alternate your anti-dandruff shampoo with regular shampoo once a week. Avoid using too many hair styling products as they can cause build-up on the scalp which can lead to dandruff.

Why does my hair sometimes look average-thickness and healthy, and other times look thin?

I mean, your hair is your hair isnt it? It never really changes. But on Christmas eve my hair was fine, i went to bed, woke up xmas day and it seems quite thin and flyaway after i washed it and blow dried it.

I also notice that under light my parting looks big and you can see bits of scalp through it... but im at a loss... why overnight does my hair seem considerable thinner, even though there was no hair on my pillow or anything????

it sometimes does feel and look quite thin and flyaway, while other times it looks kinda thick and healthy, strong hair.

Which hairstyles make hair look thicker?
