Do You Consider Medical Staffing A Good Job In N.y

What does a Staffing Coordinator do?

I ran a Manpower Temporary Services Agency for a 1 1/2 years, "many moons ago".
I started out as a service coordinator. I would greet, interview, test, and match-up the applicants with employers, of course, add answering questions over the phone, and printing up reports to the mix. Also, when a job order required several applicants, I would go to the job site for a one-on-one with the employer to make sure that we understood exactly what they were looking for.
It was a very interesting job. And helping people find a job is always a good thing.

What are good jobs to have in Nyc?

It really depends on your education. Unfortunately, if you don't have a Bachelor's Degree or higher, don't expect to be working a glamorous job that you see in the movies. Most single adults living in Manhattan have some type of higher education. even the actors and dancers have gone to prestigious schools like AMDA or Julliard.
Good paying jobs without degrees are primarliy with the city. My neighbor, who is also my friend, works in for the Department of Sanitation and makes a really good living and has great benefits. Another one of my friends works in construction, but each of the guys had some type of connection in order to get their respective postions.
I personally work in Fashion PR and have a degree in Communication. You don't necessarily have to have a Communication degree to be in Public Relations, One of my co-workers has a degree in English and another has a degree in Marketing. I make a decent salary at $34500 a year with really good benefits and overtime. I can still live in Manhattan. I just have to budget wisely. I'm currently a publicity assistant, but will be promoted in the coming months to Assistant Publicist once one of the Associate Publicists leaves for a job in Chicago.
Other jobs I know make really good money are finance jobs and jobs in the medical field, but those require a lot of training and some require certain licensing. Real Estate can be very lucrative as well, but you need a license to sell properties and it takes years to cultivate a reputation.

How do you find out which staffing agencies are used by a particular company?

It’s very hard to target the right staffing agencies if you are looking for a job in your niche. Most of staffing agencies can’t describe your skills properly to potential employers because they don’t have the in-depth knowledge of your acquired skill. I am a Doctor. How to choose a good medical recruitment agency for me?

Having worked as a freelance doctor experience  I have experience in dealing with different recruitment Agencies.I  wrote an article for doctors starting out as freelance doctors in the UK but the fundamentals are there https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/y... What I look for in a recruitment agency1: How keen are they to getting you booked? An over zealous agent who is more interested on having you as a number to his list is one that you should look out for. I once had  an agent who said he could book me for a job and he needed to make sure I had my ATLS. I told him I was taking the exam in a week time. He wrote back and said I should just do the job anyway since the department knew me as I had worked there already. I told him no!2. Do they give you information about the hospital/department: be careful when an agency wants to book you straight away for long period of time. And if they do make sure you get as much information about the department, your future colleagues etc. some agents would have taken the time to visit the hospital and can give you some feedback on the location, the people etc. If they can  connect  you to a doctor working there presently that is a real bonus 3. Do they take into consideration travel and accommodation. Agencies rarely cover travel and accommodation so look out for that. Also make sure they find you accommodation. Hospital based accommodation are cheaper than hotels and they should have those details  at hand 4. Follow up; does your agent follow up with you to make sure you are familiar with your work and how you are getting on at the hospital. It's hard working from one hospital to another and always shifting between different types of colleagues. It's nice that even if you feel undervalued at your work that your agent follows up with you to make sure you are coping with the new environment 5. payment: make sure  you know how and when your timesheets will be processed. Ask if this is digital if so get a login prior to starting  your shifts.Working  a freelance doctor is fun yet very challenging at times. The greatest benefit is the flexibility in your schedule that only you have control over. Allow yourself to set boundaries. agencies  will always try to push them. I am still learning to say 'no' because better things are yet to come.Good luck

Anybody wondering about causes of the nursing shortage?

The biggest problem is that most of the nurses today (like me) are reaching retirement age & there are not enough starting out to replace them. Many professions also are open now to people who would have gone into nursing before, but now there are more lucrative jobs for them. One of the other problems is that the attitude of administration in hospitals has always been "if you don't like it you can leave" which does not help the situation. When good nurses complain about the nurse to patient ratio, nothing is done. Nurses don't get job satisfaction if they don't have time to give good nursing care. I would never go back to hospital nursing because of this & have worked for the last 10 years in hospice. I can treat patients with more personal care than I could give in a hospital where I'd be lucky to even see my patients twice in a shift because of the volume of work that is assigned. I also remember one incident where a nurse (RN) was the only one who could do IV ABTs on the floor and was on the verge of tears when she called for help & was told she had to "deal with it" & if she went home she'd be fired. She stayed but resigned after that (I would have too). Incidentally that hospital just closed with a reputation for giving "poor nursing care". I wonder why? Whatever job you have, you want to feel satisfaction at the end of your shift. Good nurses won't stay if they don't.

Is Rutgers School of Law (Newark, NJ) considered decent?

Rutgers is decent, but things to consider if you want to work in NYC is...NYC has a lot of law schools, some of which are ranked higher than Rutgers and have better reputations. Then there's the fact that seemingly everyone and their mama wants to work in NYC as a lawyer...including a lot of students from top 10 law schools, such as Michigan, Harvard, Yale, Duke, etc. Outside of these schools (and even sometimes despite being from some of these schools), many NYC legal employers seem to have a horrible bias for NYC schools, even if they *are* ranked lower. The good news is NYC appears to have the most legal jobs available and seem to hire more lawyers than any other area. But the thing that can be tricky is you'd have a *lot* of competition and would likely need really good grades (easier said than done) from Rutgers to have an easier time finding something in NYC. NJ, you'd probably be fine. But apply to some NYC schools, too, and consider going to one of them.
