What is the media's role in a democratic society?

I believe without media, democracy is deaf and mute. Media becomes the voice for a democratic government, whether it's about appreciating a new policy of the government or criticising any action. But just like the power of words, media also has the power to destroy and save the soul of democracy.Let's start with defining Media. In 21st Century, it's not just newspapers and news channels. Twitter, Facebook, Quora, blogs, articles, YouTube are all mediums to convey information. Now let's look at the most popular and one of the most successful initiative by the ruling government 'Swacchh Bharat Abhiyan'.How did it reach the remotest of the areas in India - Media. How do we know it was successful - MediaWhen the government is working against the welfare of its citizens, how do citizens find out about it. - MediaWho reports the incidents and new laws to the citizens - MediaWho gives the platform to people to protest - MediaEveryone has heard about the Kathua and Unnao rape cases. Who brought them to limelight- MediaWho politicised them and made it a matter of religion and votes instead of safety of women - MediaMedia has the power to glorify and defame the government. How judiciously and impartially it uses this power decides the democracy of a country.

Liberalism? Conservative? What do these really mean?

Wow...good job! Pretty much sums it up and yeah...prepare to be attacked with namecalling. I'm sure they are on their way!

Is Britain a good country to live in? ?

I moved there in 2005, I needed to study English language.
I had hard time, even if there are a lof of Italians over there, It's not like here in New York where Spanish people do not give a **** about speaking English, and everything is translated to please them.
I HAD TO LEARN how to speak English, which I really enjoyed by the way, I had one of the best experiences of my life who brought me here in USA.
I personally believe UK is the best country to learn and speak English you can go.
Being part of UE ...Britain provides free health care.
Government and institution work perfectly.I had personal experiences about it.
I had hard time with the British accent but it was fun.
The British economy is the strongest in the world , a lot of jobs , I think UK is the best English spoken country.

well...no polls or competions but over there you got a tough and cool country, the weather is not perfect, but nobody is.....

What would happen if everyone were equally intelligent?

It would turn the world into a total fiasco. We could all be equally intelligent with a universal IQ of 60 or an IQ of 165.

The world's economy depends heavily on differing levels of intelligence...which I have to assume means we all have equal knowledge and skills.

I'll assume you mean equal high intelligence. Why would I go to a doctor when I broke my leg...if my wife can repair it in the comfort of my home? Teachers, tax advisers, lawyers and salesmen would have very little business.

Universities, schools, and publishers would close because...if we had to stay equal...they'd be nothing else to learn....because when we learned an additional fact...we'd me a little bit more intelligent than others.

Parenthood, religion, and socializing and conversation would become unnecessary institutions. The world would be like a gravel pit where each little rock has equal intelligence.

Although I consider myself somewhere between really stupid and pretty smart, the LAST thing I'd want is a planet full of people just like me. I learn new things every day from intelligent people as well as from not-so-smart people. Life would be a nightmare if I was never wrong...or right.
