Well, depending on the mass of the drone, having a higher surface area could allow it to glide for quite some time above a certain area. The world is a pretty big place so there is a decent amount of ground to cover, and giving more of the population access to the Internet is quite a noble pursuit and I certainly welcome it. Both projects seem ripe to gain substantially in terms of ad revenue. Think about it, as soon as someone connects to either access point, they will be taken directly to a landing page with tailored ads and content. All traffic data over these networks will be saved and used to analyze in order to serve even more tailored ads. They both make most of their revenue from ads, of which they can serve more if there is a larger user base - meaning people connected to the Internet in a position to be served an ad.

Internet: yes. many sites are blocked like Facebook, myspace and most open email accounts like Yahoo and hotmail. you may only use the ship provided email account. you may NOT hook up your personal laptop to the ship's internet connection. there are pay phones that run about a buck a minute and SUCK as far as reliability. the ship to shore phones are for emergencies ONLY. Cell phones will not work more than a mile or so out to sea. can't stick a tower in the middle of the Atlantic.
