Do You Have To Live In La To Get To Be A Actor

Do i HAVE to move to LA, to become an actor ?

I like acting, its something i had a passion for
ever since i was young. I feel like its something
i have a passion for. I want to give it a try.

But the Main Problem is.
I live in Sacramento CA.
I would have to save up a lot of money
before i even decide to move to LA
if i am to survive financially.
it will take 2-3 years of savings,
to be able to live on my own in LA

I want to know, is it possible to become
an actor, while living in this city ?
Sacramento CA

I don't want to move to LA just to pursue acting.
I don't know if its something i am willing to do.
I don't want to leave behind my family and friends
& move to LA.

That's a big commitment
It is a Life changing move, and i am not
even guaranteed that i will succeed in acting
or even become an actor,
it is a 1 out of a 100 type of career.

Not to mention That it takes
years before you can even start to make
any decent amount of money.

Los Angeles is a expensive city.
How do actors even survive financially
working in there normal job, while
attending auditions every week or month.

Is it possible to be an actor & have a acting
career in Sacramento CA ?

I want to be either in Movies or TV shows
or both, if it happens. But i don't know if
i am willing to be able to make a life changing
decision, and just leave everything behind
and move to Los Angeles.

Can anybody give me any advice regarding
my question, has anyone ever went through
this experience, or thoughts ?

How to afford living in LA?

I’m 16 and live in PA. I’m planning to move to LA a few months after my high school graduation next year to pursue my dreams of becoming an actress. Yes I am sure I want to move. I’ll be taking acting classes this summer and trying to volunteer at theatres and get roles as an extra just to build my resume. Yes I know moving to LA does not guarantee I’ll get any acting jobs. Yes I know most people that want to become actors don’t actually make it. Yes I want to take that risk. Yes I know how expensive it is. I’m giving myself 2-3 years there and if I can’t afford it or if I just completely give up I’m going to go home and go to college. No nothing you say can change my mind. I’m just wondering how should I prepare? I’m prepared to work 3 jobs when I move there to pay my rent. I’ll be working 2 jobs this summer and next school year to afford my plane ticket, my down payment on an apartment, to have my things shipped and to start off with some basic necessities. I just like to be pre pre pre prepared and would like to know if anyone has any tips to help me manage living by myself and being able to afford this.

Do you have to move to LA to be an Hollywood actor? 10 points!?

I think you mean by "Hollywood actor" you mean to be 'famous' or a 'film star'?

If that is the case, the answer is no.
In fact, studies show that it is easier to land a film role if you have established yourself in NY before heading to LA.

NY actors have a different training, and are different than the 100000000000 'bubble headed beach blondes' that have no training, but go to auditions in LA because they believe they have the 'right look.' Or that's the scene they grew up in, so they just follow suit.
Also a lot of agencies that cast major motion films are bi coastal and will send you to whichever coast they see most beneficial for you to be cast in, because they make their money off of your opportunities.

I'm not saying, that you can't make it if you move to LA. People have and still do. There are opportunities in LA., and there is some talent. I'm just saying it is not necessary to have to live there to get your start or big break.

Best Places To Live In California For Aspiring Actors?

Mind you, I said around Los Angeles meaning some of the cities on the outskirts of LA. I'm not looking for any rude answers, so if you don't have anything helpful or positive to say, get the hell off this question post and take your ignorance back to the "Unemployment Office" with your next visit. When people say they want to move to California to better their acting career that doesn't mean that they are fully dumb to try to only focus on acting alone, and understand they need a backup plan ( Job ) until their main plan becomes affective.

Just give me some helpful advice as far as cheaper areas boarding Los Angeles to live. That's all I'm asking.

Moving to LA. only chance of becoming a actor?

Im 21 years old male and want to be an working actor. I currently live in Ohio. I have read that the only way to become an actor is to move to los angeles. Is this true/ I have no prior experience honestly. I have only read books on acting.

Do you have to live near your Agent?

I think for Actors, it's better if they live closer to where the Acting Industry is. For example, Los Angeles City (Hollywood). So it'll be easier for the actor to commute to attend classes, auditions, and rehearsals. LA - based Agents would have access to LA jobs. Where as NY - based Agents would rarely look into LA jobs, because their network are in New York. (Unless it is a Bi-Coastal Agency, where they have agents in both coasts)

Therefore, if you live in Texas, then you should look for talent agents around the area - because they will be able to help you getting jobs in Texas. A LA-based Talent Agent will not be able to find you jobs in Texas. (and probably won't sign you, because you are not in LA)

Most times, the actor doesn't meet with the Talent Agent on a regular basis. The meeting usually occurs during the initial interview (or audition), then the rest will be done over the phone and emails.
So, to answer your question - no, you do not need to live close to your Talent Agent. But you need to make sure the Talent Agent has access to job opportunties within your area.

For example, a friend of mine who is a New York based Actor, but his Agent is based in New Jersey (which is only seperated by the hudson river). The NJ Agent has access to New York jobs, so he was able to send my friend to auditions. My friend rarely sees his agent in person, but things work out in this case.

If you are signed with a LA agent, and then you got a call at 4:00pm in the afternoon "HI! I have scheduled you for an audition at 5:00pm at the Warner Brother Studio!! Please go and be on time!!!!" would you be able to go? Or do you have to tell your agent to reschedule?
It takes a lot of effort for an Agent to schedule his/her talent with a Casting Director, considering other Agents are trying to secure a time slot for their actors. Can you imagine if you are no where near LA, cannot attend the same-day audition... It is most likely the agent will focus on other actors who are local, and able to get the job.

Where in Los Angeles should I move to to become a singer/actor?

Take "Obviousman's" advice. Seriously! There are already a million wannabes in Los Angeles, and more get off the bus every day. You would be just one more empty face in the crowd. Moving to Los Angeles ONLY means you moved to Los Angeles. It will do absolutely NOTHING to advance an acting career. The way to success as an entertainer is, as "O-man" stated, best started in your own home town.
