Do You Know The Title Of This Japanese Film/movie

Best japanese film, movie?

To whoever it was who suggested Hero: if you're talking about the one with Jet Li, Maggie Cheung, and Tony Leung, then you've got the wrong country.

If you're looking for Japanese films that are true masterpieces, then you should definitely watch anything by either Akira Kurosawa or Yasujiro Ozu -- they were basically Japan's two greatest filmmakers ever. Personally, I much prefer Kurosawa-san, but Ozu-san is held with higher regard in Japan.

In terms of film titles, my favorites from Kurosawa are "Ran," "Kagemusha," "Ikiru," "Seven Samurai," "Akahige" (Red Beard), "Yojimbo" and its sequel "Sanjuro," and "The Hidden Fortress." Of those, I would say "Ran" is the most powerful, "Ikiru" is the most inspirational, and "Seven Samurai" is the most epic.
Some of Ozu-san's best movies are "Tokyo Story," "Good Morning," and "Brothers and Sisters of the Toda Family." I haven't seen too many of his movies, but trust me when I say, this guy was the real deal.

Hope this was helpful!

EDIT: I can't believe I forgot Rashomon -- thanks to Thardus for reminding me of it.

You may also want to check out the "Samurai" Trilogy, "Welcome Back Mr. McDonald," "Twilight Samurai," and, of course, "Shall We Dansu?" (which won 51 out of the 54 awards it was nominated for). Enjoy!!!

What do the titles of my Japanese movies mean?

I own 54 japanese movies. I order some from Tokyo. Some are in Region 2 format and require a special DVD player. I just found a boxed set of 4 movies about "Kekko Kamen" from a comic book. My Japanese dictionary does not have "kamen". I have an idea, for there are several kamen in the film. Another movie's title begins with a swastika. Someone said the title is "Mangia Mai". It is about a lady samurai who KO's a giant and kills 7 men who attack her at once. One is "Jingi 2' about gangsters. One is "Gurenbana" about an older man who has a shameful affair with an adolescent gal and burns himself up in his car. I studied Japanese and have two grammar books and a dictionary, but some things are not in my textbooks. I have a gal from Japan, but I like to learn for myself without asking her everything. She is pleased when I speak her native tongue. Does anyone know what these 4 movie titles mean? I have transalated 50 titles, but these 4 are not in my books or some at bookstores.

Need title of a Japanese movie I saw about a man that loves an old black/white film princess that comes off screen?

Movie starts off in modern day an old man is in a hospital and tells a nurse a story about how he is a screenwriter, but never finished writing a story he started a long time ago (1940-60s not sure).

He explains screenplay as a young man loves films and wishes to be a screenwriter. He goes to an old movie theater to watch his favorite old black and white film about a princess that has magical talking animal friends along her journey and she’s strong/independent etc..
He loves the film and is in love with the woman in the movie.

He watches the movie so many times on repeat and suddenly the girl from the movie walks right off of the screen and walks to him. She remains black/white (grayscale) in a world of color. They cannot touch or she disappears.

They fight argue rest of the movie as he tries to get a job as a screenwriter. Eventually falling in love through some hardships.

Blah, blah, etc. movie ends with him dying at the end, she never left his side and never aged, he is about to die and they finally hold each other as they both die. (She disappears).

Ps. Saw this movie May2018 on a flight to japan and now I want to watch again and can’t find it anywhere!!!! Pls help

Any Good Japanese Movies?

This is not a romance movie but a drama film. And I always recommend this to foreigners and locals to watch. It has romance elements in it though.
It's Okuribito (Departures)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Departures_(film)

There's also the Koizora (Sky of Love) which is a popular romance-drama film based on the manga.
And Taiyo no Uta (Midnight Sun) which stars YUI, a popular JPOP artist.

Why are most Japanese movies so bad?

For me it’s the bad acting and bad directing that put me off. Plot-wise or script-wise Japan is extremely innovative. Japan is the only country outside America that has created internationally known super-heroes. Its entertainment industry — esp. manga, anime and video games — is second to none when it comes to storytelling. Hollywood is currently turning Anime titles into tripple-A blockbusters in spades. … Now other Asian countries are making better movies and dramas. But it wasn’t always like this. Japan used to have great actors/directors and a great film culture.Based on what I have read, I think the problem is that “cinema” ceased to be an engine for storytelling in the Japanese entertainment culture. Japanese audience go to manga, anime (and light novels) for fresh stories. For whatever reason, Japanese audience has lost interest in real human beings. I recently looked up Japan’s annual box office revenues. It turned out that even top-earning titles from Hollywood were mainly Disney animations or Disney live-action adaptations of popular animated shows (like Beauty & the Beast). In Japan, top-earning Japanese films in the past decade have almost exclusively been anime — Ghibli works and most recently “Your Name”. Heck, they are still making “Doraemon” movies — which still earns almost $100 million with each installation. (if you don’t know what Doraemon is, look it up on wikipedia). This is crazy. If you are still making Doraemon movies while your live-action expressions are desiccating, you’re mindfully killing that art form. But, for me, this explains why Japanese live action cinema died. It is quite dead. Some critics say that anime’s huge success on the silver screen is largely financial reasons. However, there is no reason to believe that good live-action films would not be as profitable. Animes are cartoons. They are not real “movies”; voice acting creates only caricaturized persons. Basically, the Japanese cinema now is merely an extension of the TV. Hayao Miyasaki once said that Japanese no longer wanted to see what real humans look like. Japanese producers keep dodging the problems. In stead of trying to regain the audience’s trust in the quality of live action films, they keep producing more animes.

What are some good japanese samurai movies?

Japanese shonen-ai or yaoi MOVIE!?

Dramaclick is awesome right? I use it a lot. So on that site you'll find for yaoi (if not try on http://www.mysoju.com/ or http://www.dramacrazy.net/ ) -
No Regret (Korean movie)
The king and the clown (K movie)
Bungee jumping of their own (K movie)
Antique Bakery (K movie)
RH Plus (Jap drama)
Princess princess d (Jap drama)
Moon child (Jap movie)

for yuri -
Spider Lilies (Taiwanese movie)
Mendol-Ikemen Idol (Jap drama)
Whispering corridors 1 and 2 (Korean movie but horror)

Just write the names like how I wrote them and they'll come up. On dramaclick you'll find that even if you don't write a hyphen, it will give you nothing, so if you know even a word that's part of the title, like for example, "spider", just write that and it'll give you all the names with that word in it.
