Do You Like Lettuce On Your Sandwich

Can I use cabbage as lettuce on a sandwich lol?

Yup!

Do you like lettuce on your sandwiches?

It actually depends on the sandwich. If it's a BLT, then yes, absolutely. What I don't like is a big piece of limp lettuce soaked in mayonnaise that when you go to take a bite, because it's got so much mayonnaise, slides right out and your sitting there with a big piece of lettuce sticking out of your mouth. On hot sandwiches, and tacos, I prefer cabbage. Cabbage stands up to heat a lot better than lettuce. I also like cabbage for it's bright, crisp flavor. For burgers, we prefer coleslaw. Yes, it makes the burger juicier and more likely to drip on your clothes if you're not careful. So, always eat over the plate and you'll be fine.Expert Burgers - The Good Plate

How do you cut lettuce so its deli sandwich style thin?

You can do it using a cheese grater-just cut the lettuce into wedges, and run it down the side of a cheese grater. You can also use the shredding blade of a food processor. I often shred a whole head of lettuce, then wrap it in damp paper towel and store it in a ziplock bag, so its handy.

What is the best lettuce type for sandwiches and why? How about for burgers?

I'm with Ruth Marie Hofmann on this one. I usually have romaine in the house, and it's great for most everything. Iceburg, if very fresh, is ok too, but we generally don't have it around due to its high water content. Bibb is nice for a change, and is very tender, so biting through it is really easy. Both the red leaf and green leaf are tender too, with very small ribs, so they sit well in a sandwich. Any combination of lettuce works too.
