Lord Rama was sued for a case of non-cognizable offence of cruelty on women & domestic violence.In Feb 2016, a practicing lawyer Thakur Chandan Kumar Singh sued Hindu mythological Lord Rama for ‘cruelty’ towards his wife Sita who was exiled (given ‘vanvasa’) for no fault of hers. All this was done at the birth place of Sita, Sitamarhi in Bihar, India.His major arguments were:Rama’s move was "hypocritical" and "cruel" on the basis that he sent his wife to live in a forest.Lord Rama did not think for a single moment how a woman could live alone amid wild animals, including reptiles and mammals, in the forestLord Ram's brother Laxman was also sued for helping Ram in this and "insulting" Sita without verifying facts.Since it was a "non-cognizable offence", it meant that the police would have been unable to make an arrest without a warrant issued by a court order. Of course, the court dismissed the petition, but not without giving the logic behind the dismissalWhy did he file such an ancient case?Who shall be punished, if charges are found true?Who will be his witness?What was the exact date of offence?I hope this case must have brought a relief & smile on the face of the presiding judge in the midst of his monotonous & overburdened job.P.S.
