First of all, “media” is the plural of medium. There is no single entity of “media.” There are thousands of people working in hundreds of news outlets — big and small, good and indifferent, independently owned or (far more likely) part of a conglomerate big or small, etc. Mr. Cule is correct that, generally speaking, the “bias” is in favor of making money. Yes, I think it is. You can see how people think, it may shock and it may anger; it even makes you laugh a lot of the time; but it shows to me at any rate how people think. In most of our lives we will connect with as many as thirty five people, like an extended pod. Those people, like it or not; can be very influential in how you perceive this world of ours. In this format you can access the opinions of people, in the moment; that you normally wouldn't have contact with. The folk in your pod can often reflect the same sort of ideas about life that you yourself have; so you tend to hear the same thing over again; which reinforces those perceptions. In here it's anything goes more or less, so your able to see outside the pod your in; and to my mind that creates a good cross section of view points. I also find it interesting how much alike we all really are. Different each to their own most assuredly, but all just frail humans walking our paths; worried over what will be; chased by what ever was. The biases are just the loyalties to the ideas that help us make sense of what we'll never really comprehend, a gift from the pod if you will allow; and many seem to be able to drop that load in here; for a while anyway.
