Does A 4th Year Teacher Going Into A Deputy Principal Go To The Top Of The Pay Scale

1st year teacher blues: Should I quit or stick it out?

I've wanted to be a teacher since the third grade. I am two months into teaching and I want to pull out. I know the first year is hell, but I think it's more than first year blues. I question if my foundation of content is sturdy enough or my set backs (disorganization, being a scatter brain, difficulties with being consistent, unhappiness, and still trying to figure out "who I am")can withstand the harsh blows of middleschool teaching. Will I go down in history for the shortest teaching career? I don't want to be a quitter, but I don't want to be unhappy. Maybe I need more time or do I? I feel lost almost like I'm a foreigner and I'm scared that my feelings are reflecting in my attitude and presence. I won't lie quitting would feel like heaven (weirdly enough), but would I be quitting because I'm scared or because the students deserve a more confident educator who can present a rigourous lesson and manage the class at the same time; two things that I have not succeeded in....(I think)
HELP!?!? How do I know when to leave? I don't mean leave the profession, but leave to grow and then to see if it's a right fit. I'm so confused!

What are teachers doing to make more money?

I teach at a public school in Central CA, and making $150,000 as a teacher is not a realistic goal at this point in time. If you want to make $150,000 and teach, I'd suggest becoming skilled in an area that is well-paid (Quora would suggest in the engineering field, I'm sure), and use your time off to pursue side projects in that area that will boost your overall income. If you want to know how to make the most money as a teacher, let me encourage you to pursue your Master's degree. Your pay scale moves across & down as you advance. You move down for the number of years you've been teaching and across for the number of graduate credits you have in your field. I strongly recommend reaching a MA in a related area as soon as you can, as you will maximize the amount you can make as a teacher. Board members are not paid much at all, and they aren't teachers (usually), so I wouldn't look at that. My grandfather-in-law was on a school board for many years. The pay was minimal (not a salary by far), but the job did provide health care. I'm not sure if that is standard though. Principals do make more than teachers. The downside to that though is that you have to be a principal! Not only do you work more days (and usually more hours), but you have to deal with discipline, district politics, meetings, angry parents, counseling teachers, etc. If your calling is to teach, then being a principal will likely not be something you want to pursue (at least not initially). Let me give you some numbers from my area:average incoming teacher salary - $45,000average ten-year teacher salary - $60,000average twenty-year teacher salary - $70,000average thirty-year teacher salary - $75,000 - $80,000average beginning principal salary - $75,000average ten-year administrator salary - $85,000average superintendant salary - $100,000 (I believe, if it isn't a requirement, it's standard for a superintendant to have a PhD) Many teachers do have side jobs to help make ends meet (tutoring, summer-type jobs, and leading extra programs in middle/high school are all common). It's a great job, and I'm sure you'll really enjoy it. However, I'm not sure you can feasibly expect that salary while doing it.

What is the current salary scale for teachers in Assam?

Depends upon govt and private sector. In govt sectors, UGC and 7th pay scale holds good. In private sectors it's widely biased. Various private institutions pays differently according to their calculations. But usually it is low except a few pays good salaries like royal group of institutions, private engineering colleges, DPS, army public school, private universities in case you have masters and phd.

Funny teacher stories?

6th grade for me was a crazy year. We had open house that night and i was in science lab. everybody hated this teacher and nobody would say anything to her except for me. she made us climb on shelves and clean her whole room while she just sat on her lazy you know what. I told her I was allergic to clorox but she didnt believe me because i was her problem kid. I, Being a bad kid got and eraser and rubbed it on my arm really hard so it was red and a little swollen and i told her "see look what you did" her eyes got huge and she looked like a fish out of water. I was like, "do you want me to wash it" playing up the chemical thing and she was like "uh yeah" later that year i told her i was allergic to pickles and she sent me to the office [dont know why] I was going to get a detention, but i told the principal about the clorox thing. He was like okay. wrote a note to the teacher for me to give to her and just sent me back to class with nothing. That teacher got suspended for like 3 days. =] I hated her

Do you think the Public School System is going down the drain?

I go to a public school and believe me the teachers are trying to teach their students the best they can but the students aren't ready to listen and pay attention. They're more worried about what they're gonna do during the weekend, how drunk they're gonna get, and who they're going to hook up with next. If the students even bother to pay attention to a single lesson they'll do so much better in schools. If students had problems they could go to their teachers but many of them don't.
Many people blame the teachers for any problems students may have but they should remember that students go home and what they do there is none of the teacher's problem.

What is the average salary of a school teacher in India?

This is somewhat indicative data from Tamil Nadu (education is a state subject in India):1. My mom used to work for Rs.900 p.m. in a private school in late eighties. I think, in private schools, there's still a wide range from Rs.5,000 to Rs.30,000 or even more in certain schools.2. In government schools, I think, the range is between Rs.15,000 to Rs.50,000 depending on seniority and qualifications. Unlike some other states in India, the government pays teachers' salaries regularly in Tamil Nadu.

SHOULD I BECOME A TEACHER???????

I have always wanted to be a teacher. I am a Registered Nurse abnd finished uni 10 years ago. I am now 30 , married with kids and now uni seems so scary. But I really want to be a teacher. Since I already have a degree, the master of teaching is a 2 year postygrad. degree. I don't want to sound old, however the whole 'computer thing' scares me. tutorials are now online, everything is online( learning). Should I take the risk? I have the money for fees and books. Oh man, is uni harder these days or is it me? Should i give it a go? thanks for any input.
