Does Anyone Else Notice How Few People Know How To Operate A Fork And Knife Lately

Why do Americans eat dinner on paper plates?

We do it.

Two things got it started. My son had a birthday party, and we had leftover Teen Titans paper plates and napkins. Around that same time, the dishwasher broke.

Now, I HATE doing housework. And my ex-husband refused to wash a single dish in 13 months, so it was gonna be me or nobody (my kids weren't old enough).

So we started using Teen Titans paper plates. It became a habit, because I actually liked being able to spend less time washing dishes. Plus, my kids were very small at the time, and paper plates don't break. :-) It was easy for them to clean up after themselves, which is a bonus.

I know there are some drawbacks, like that it's a strain on the environment, and that it's an ongoing expense. But I justify it because while a much bigger problem in the US is a REALLY unhealthy diet and unhealthy eating habits, my kids and I are eating our broccoli and salads and baked or grilled fish or chicken (little to no butter or oil) and fresh fruit on our paper plates. At least I'm taking the time to make sure what goes IN their bodies is healthy, even if what they're eating it off of is less than ideal. I have less of a problem just washing the dishes we use for preparing and serving, than adding the dishes we eat off of as well.

And eventually, I do plan to go back, around the time they can really help more with washing dishes, and my dishes have a chance of not being shattered regularly.

Why is everyone suddenly turning vegan?

Okay. Lately I have noticed how so many people are suddenly turning vegan. A lot of celebrities and YouTubers. But, I don't get why? I mean, if they've eaten meat their whole life, why would they suddenly just stop? I'm sure they knew from the beginning that an animal had to die in order for them to eat meat. And now, all of a sudden, everyone is turning vegan AT THE SAME TIME. What..?

Why do people still use Internet Explorer?

I work as a site designer, and what I've noticed most about why people don't use Chrome is that most people are not aware a better browser exists. I've worked with people who use Internet Explorer 7 and are okay with its crashes and problems because they are not aware they have a better alternative. The earliest adopters of a new product are always the ones who work in the tech community and are interested in technology, and it is the case with Chrome as well. Even though it has outgrown the early adoption phase, it is still mostly the above mentioned community that uses the browser.Quite a bunch of people I've worked with also already use an alternative to IE and are good with that alternative, which is Firefox. In my list of good web browsers, Firefox would come third. And the Mac users I know are good enough with Safari. It's well designed, stable, quite secure, and fast. When you've already got that and you want more, it's time to switch to Chrome. Also, most people don't want the hassle of completely switching to another browser and learning their way around it. Especially seniors. It's much easier for them to adapt to an updated version of their current browser rather than a new one and a new interface entirely.Since you mentioned Internet Explorer, I'd also like to add the fact that Windows, to this date, remains the most widely used operating system in the world. That itself is a hugely contributing factor. Internet Explorer comes installed with mostly every Windows package, hence Internet Explorer is also one of the most widely used web browsers. [Related - Apple has a version of Safari for Windows as well. Another alternative to Internet Explorer.]I suppose as more and more people learn from the Internet and from their friends of the existence of a far superior web browser, they will too begin to adopt it, and pretty soon, we will find Chrome usage increasing.Update: Great answers below as well.

What do people get wrong about you and your personality?

Thanks for the A2A.For some reason people, even complete strangers, get some sense from me that they can and should tell me their darkest secrets and fears. I don’t know why.Not too long ago, I took an Uber somewhere. My Uber driver was an older man from some African country. Not sure which one. In the course of the 20 minute ride, he told me that he’d been repeatedly molested by an older woman in his village as a kid and how it made him afraid of women his whole life. Said he’d never told anyone before even though he was probably 60 something.Once I was standing outside a hotel I was staying at, letting my dog pee. The man in the room next door was outside and started talking about my dog. All of a sudden the conversation turned into a 25 minute dialogue about how he has a two year old daughter and is now terrified of pedophiles. About how his neighbor is creepy and he got a concealed carry weapon because he’s paranoid about men touching his daughter.People I’ve only had a few short conversations with tell me things like they and their wife regularly overdraw their bank account, are sleeping with their best friend’s boyfriend, secretly sell their dirty underwear, cut themselves, were never loved by their parents, had an STD, or have been in a psych ward. It’s usually followed by “I’ve never told anyone that.”Sometimes it’s long-winded venting about the intimate details of their relationships, their childhood traumas, the things they hate about themselves, or their secret vulnerabilities. This is always unprompted, seemingly random, not during a deep conversation, and without me sharing anything related to those things with the person. I generally don’t tell anyone anything personal about me so it’s not that.I don’t know what it is. Maybe something about my face reminds them of a Catholic priest or something and they feel a compulsion to confess things. Or I have a therapist aura. Whatever it is, it isn’t accurate and I really don’t want to know all of these things about everyone.

How do I handle this situation? Had lunch with a great friend a few days ago, everything was fine until I said I'm meeting few people for dinner on Thursday. It bothered her and now she hasn't spoken to me for days. She was upset. What should I do?

TLDR: Respectfully ask her about it and if she could explain why, and say it is because you don’t want to ruin the friendship (bc you rly don’t). Say that if it is something that can be discussed and debaters in order to work out complications that it would be great. Maybe she had plans with you Thursday. Maybe she knows some of the people and don’t get along with them. Maybe she has been feeling stressed recently and you are her go-to.Either way, attempt to feel out the problem without any anger but with pure intellectual curiosity and in a calm manner.Mid she too dependent on you (no offense)? If it really can’t be explained or it’s frivolous, well, that’s not a good reason. She may want to keep you to herself? If you guys are only simply good friends, I’m sorry for the unhealthy other assumptions I’m making and feel free to disregard them. But just as any relationship, try to work out the values and differences and priorities. If you find that there really is no reason, see if your relationship with her (I call everything a relationship, whether or not it’s a friendship, as for example bowls are related to food and families are related, and people in families have relationships such as mother, father, daughter, son, etc) is really worth it, or if there is something else. How much do you value your good friend? How much do you value the meeting?Try to make sure she understands that you are her good friend and care about her, but you also have needs and the meeting is one of them.Hoepfully this helps, good luck!

How safe is Belfast, Ireland?

i live in South Belfast have lived in West Belfast and know the rest of it like the back of my hand. if you dont go looking for trouble and dont get caught up in fights, drugs, parlimilitaries and dont try to start trouble then you will be fine. you will find that loads of people here are fine theres just a few who dont want ireland to move on and will try to keep it back.
what religion you are will affect where you will ideally live. for example ( and people may say its not true but it is.) if your a prod you wont want to hang around Ballymurphy in a rangers top or you wouldnt live in the shankill while flying a tricolour outside your door. we made the mistake of living in a prod area but still wearing celtic tops, playing republican music, playing my tinwhistle and going to and from gaelic and camogie training in full gear with my hurl in sight and got our car windows done and my mates up the street got their house petrol bombed.
dont let this put you off though loads of people are fine. i have mates who are prods and we make fun of each other but its not serious its just messing around. its a pretty safe place bar a few people but everywhere has that. Just dont mention politics, religion or a united Ireland or people will start to show their true colours as most people in Ireland (Northern Ireland more than the republic) have been brought up to beleive one thing and on this topic will not change it but its definately worth a visit at least.
