Would you recognize if another person looks like you?

It’s haunting. I had a crisis when I was around 9 because of a look-alike. I was staying the night around three hours away from home at my friends house (this wasn't an often occurrence, but I missed her so much after I moved across the state), and I woke up to my friends parents bursting into the room. Both of us scared and very much awake, we asked why they were so upset. The mom left the room, I remember hearing her crying. She came back with a newspaper, handing it to me.On the front page was a picture of a girl. My stomach dropped. She looked exactly like me, the face shape, the chub, the hair. Everything. This girl had been kidnapped, and the next day would be found murdered. I looked around the room, trying to figure out if I was real. I felt dizzy. It was unsettling.Apparently my mom had called my friend’s mom after receiving many calls from concerned family. That girl looked exactly like me—my mom had been sure I was gone. Now, I never did meet this girl. But the eeriness of seeing a smile that is the exact same as your own is overwhelming. You’ll know when you see someone who looks just like you. Your family will know too.

Why doesn't anyone recognise impractical jokers?

A lot of people actually have this question. You just see what they (the jokers) make you see. It's not like nobody recognises them. They have aired a few clips in which they were recognised by their victims. But the show is not about that. If they'll include more clips of people recognising them, it'll suck the fun out of it.Also there is a fair amount of time (say, few months) between recording the pranks (through hidden cameras) and actually airing them. So they get a lot of time to edit the part in which they are recognised. Also the show is aired on tru tv and the fact that there are many people who actually don't follow this channel can also be a reason. If it weren't for Comedy Central India, I would not even know about the show. People know them but lets acknowledge that they do not enjoy as much fan following as any other series. If I ever came across the jokers then I (pretending that i don't even have the foggiest idea of who they are) would just walk across the screen in the background as they are doing their jokes. Thats how I can be on tv (provided if they decided to air that particular prank). If I go directly to the jokers then I might just get an autograph. Although I would be happy with that too.

Why can't anyone recognize Clark Kent as Superman?

partly because no one Thinks Superman has a secret ID... and with the demeanor and posture, Clark is the last person people would suspect of being Superman even if the first thought occurred to them

and with Lois.. different sources ascribe different examples of how they meet and which persona she meets first

-- in Superman 78 she's worked with Clark for a few days to a week (perhaps even longer) and then she meets Superman as she's tumbling to her death

-- the comics for a long time depicted her meeting him without a persona (he's in street clothes, and helps land a plane which she is on... she rushes out, their eyes meet (she likely ruins her panties) and he takes off before they ever speak -- then he re-debuts in costume and she's head over heels for him... Clark starts work at the Planet, getting hired by scooping her by submitting a Superman Interview in advance her having interviewed him as Superman... so you have the conflicting attitudes of wanting Superman while hating Clark for scooping her on the story -- it's amazing what you can be blinded to with such a dichotomy of attitudes

but as far as what "spandex and an S-curl" can do -- Look at anyone you know who is now, or has spent time, in the Military now think of what they look like in full Camo -- compared to what they look like on Saturday afternoon hanging out by the Grill -- by no means is it the aforementioned Spandex and a curl... but i'll wager you have to do a double take to verify its them... and now imagine if they were actively trying to not be recognized...

Why does nobody recognize Kara as Supergirl?

Like many of the answers below, it’s all about context.I’ve thought about this a lot, and also about Clark w/ the glasses as well, Barry with his cowl, all that jazz… You would think you’d recognize someone if you knew them and kept seeing a superhero as well, but really, you wouldn’t.First thing is the glasses:People can look pretty freaking different w/ or w/ out glasses. Wearing glasses can change the shape of your eyes, alter how your nose looks, change how your jawline/facial width looks…pretty much everything. Also, she changes her personality a bit and even her voice. As Supergirl, she’s loud, proud, bold, confident, and eager to save the day. As Kara, she’s quieter, more mild-mannered but still confident. So, now, the context thing.Imagine your best friend suddenly coming up to you and confessing that they are a superhero with alien/metahuman powers. To someone who already knew, to them it would be obvious, but if you’ve only known that person as a “normal human being”, then you’d be completely thrown off, even if they resembled the hero, you wouldn’t have even thought of that, because you would be so used to the context of only seeing them in a friend/office setting, and that hero would be separate in your mind, because you’d only be used to seeing that hero in a saving the world setting. Also, Kara changes her hair a bit. As Kara Danvers, it’s almost always up out of her face, usually nicely done. As Supergirl, it’s down, curly, and in her face. Here’s a pic that mixes the context thing with the appearance thing.
