Does Helping My Dad With His Company Considered Community Service

Can parents sign off on community service hours?

No. your parent's can't sign off on your community service hours. Go back to the places where you volunteered and ask them to sign off. No problem. Remember colleges aren't so much interested in the number of hours or the places you volunteered; they really want to know what you learn from the experiences. How did it make you see the situation differently: how did it affect you and how you will live your life: How did it impact you: How can you help to make the world (even your corner of the world) better? Hope this helps.

Lost paperwork for community service?

I have misplaced my court-ordered paperwork for community service, I was wondering if I could still get the paper work from the office I have done my work. Or would I have to go back to the court house and get another paper, I have til the end of next month before the date is up, so is it possiblee that I can get my completed paperwork from the location I done my work or do I need to go to court again.

Is volunteer work considered customer service?

i'm trying to apply for a job and it requires 1 year of retail OR customer service experience.........
i've been a student volunteer for 4 years during high school. i worked with the public, from children to elders. i provided assistance when needed, like answered questions, gave information/directions, etc. during school/community events. is this considered customer service?? if so, how do i include it on my application!¿

What is the importance of community service for society?

Public service is already a critical part of any society, paid or otherwise. Politicians were called “public servants” in the days before rampant corruption was normalized, but even now they serve society as a scapegoat for all the ills a country faces. Debts are repaid to society as a mutually beneficial alternative for criminals to improve themselves and the world, rather than rot in a cage. Scholarships and jobs are often awarded on the basis of community service hours when other requirements become so common. Ultimately things get done through the power of YOU. You could petition your government or work long hours to pay someone else to half-heartedly accomplish your vision, but “if you want it done right…”Ultimately community service is the lifeblood of society. Even in ancient Egypt citizens worked community service hours instead of paying taxes like we began to do in recent years. It was far more efficient since most citizens had little or no wealth but much free time and energy. Some consider it their divine purpose and travel far and wide on “missions” to help build schools, teach or anything they need. Many war-torn or corrupt nations would collapse if not for the community services provided by people like you and I offering their time to something greater than that 9 to 5 job. If you live in society or follow any of the mainstream religions then you agreed to the social contract to help thy neighbor. Even the most selfish can easily see the increased chances that your benefactors would help you in the future when you may need it most.

Does working in my dad's accounting office for free count as volunteer work?

No it doesnt, volunteer work (the type counted for college) is meant to give back to the community and show civic virtue.
Volunteering for ur dad will count as work experience. Its still pretty good, but it doest count as volunteering in community service.

My dad wants me to apply to DePaul University...?

I just recently graduated from AQ myself and loved it. Do you live in MI? If you do, I don't know why your dad would want to pay out-of-state tuition for you to go to DePaul. That being said, if he is paying your tuition he does have a pretty big say in where you go. AQ is also a private school as well and you may be able to get $ too (I honestly don't know because I didn't use any). I visited AQ before I went and that really made a difference. You really should visit a college and meet some of the professors and such before you make such a big decision. You can always apply and just not go if you decide on somewhere else, applying is not a set in stone deal ( I got accepted to several schools, like Loyola in Chicago, but turned some down). I live in MI myself but was born in Chicago so Loyola was appealing but AQ had the program I wanted and was closer to home.

You will definitely get more one-on-one attention from a private school with smaller enrollment. Just remember it is your future and you should make the last decision (you don't want to go somewhere where you will be unhappy) And who cares if your brother went there! You can choose the college because it's good, he didn't make the decision for you.

oh one more thing I thought about.....is the major your going into one that is a really good department at the college? You shouldn't pick a college ONLY for the study abroad program, you have to do other things as well.

Good Luck!

How do insurance companies see past, unreported/dismissed citations if I got into a car accident?

The only way the insurance will know if they run your license. Most likely it wont affect this accident on the old, since it appears you did not get a ticket on the 2nd. Most companies do not run your license when in an accident.

But,,,,,,,,when it comes to renewal of the insurance, most companies will run the license to see if tickets out there and if so, will stay on your record for 3 years and then drop off. Since your ticket was paid, community service and also that you paid for the accident out of pocket, the license will most likely show no points (in your favor), but most licenses will also show the accident and date, which goes against you and also stays on your record for 3 years. So now w/in 1 year, you have 2 accidents, (not good) and could raise your rates.

In my state, (Indiana), our license records goes back 10 years...........On it, it will show all tickets, which is the date of the ticket, then to the side will show the date closed and not until 10 years later will it drop off your license record.

good luck

I have work experience in my father's company, is it possible to get a glowing hot letter from him to apply to Harvard? If not, then from who can I?

I would like to note that I'm on your side and believe you did great work. However, admissions is typically a bit more skeptical. They have to assume that there's bias in the letter here. And, obviously there is tremendous potential for there to be. If it was my son or daughter applying to college and needed a letter, I would write them an amazing letter because I want the best for my hypothetical child.I would recommend getting a letter of recommendation from someone at the company who is not a relative. Also, I would consider what other extracurriculars you did. Honestly, working and doing an exceptional job at your dad's company is probably not unique enough in today's tough admissions.

Does working for your parents count as work experience on a resume?

Of course! Just make sure that you highlight skills that could be applicable in the job that you're looking for. Here are some examples of what looks impressive:

1. Managing People and Events

Have you acted as a leader in any of your extracurricular activities? Been captain of the football team? Editor-in-chief at your school newspaper? Mention it on your resume!

Managerial skills, even in your school newspaper, demonstrate your ability to work with and organize a group–an impressive extracurricular activity!

2. Study Abroad and Foreign Language Programs

Proficiency in more than one language is a valuable asset anywhere you go, including the workplace. Your attempt at learning another language (however successful), looks attractive on a resume.

Studying abroad demonstrates a desire to explore new cultures and the ability to integrate quickly with other people, which is a valuable skill in the workplace.

3. Community Service

As a resume extracurricular activity, it doesn’t get much better than community service. This shows that you’re a self-starter, that you’re selfless, and that you care about the community that you’re part of. With enough resume extracurricular activities like these, you’ll be preparing for a job interview in no time.

4. Writing & Technical Experience

If you have writing experience or technical training, these are great resume extracurricular activities to include. Even if they seem unrelated, these skills are useful in nearly all workplaces.

Being able to express yourself, in English or HTML, is a skill that companies greatly value, so let your resume tell them how experienced you are!

5. Long-Term Dedication

If you’ve had a job or extracurricular activity that you’ve worked on for a long period of time, mention it on your resume even if it doesn’t relate to the job you’re applying for.

The ability to commit to a specific task for an extended period of time is an admirable and attractive aspect of resume extracurricular activities.

Resume extracurricular activities should be carefully selected. Listing dozens of unrelated, passing extracurricular activities says little about you and makes you seem unfocused.

Is there a lack of volunteer service to your country today? What's your take on this?

It depends on the location, and whether you’re talking about individual or group volunteering.I’ve heard that in some cases, if a group wants to volunteer with an agency, they have to make a financial donation. You literally have to pay to volunteer!Typically, various departments at large companies like to do a volunteer event once or twice a year as a team-building thing. And the company wants the world to see their employees wearing their trademark volunteer shirts out in the community. This generates good PR for the company and adds socially-responsible value to their stock price.I can see the temptation among non-profits to take advantage of this; after all, these big companies can afford a donation, right?…It’s symbiotic, I suppose, but not an ethical way to approach volunteering. To me, volunteering should be about giving of yourself even if you have no financial resources to give. What seems to be really lacking are consistent individual volunteers, filling in the gaps left by the groups. These are the folks who come every week or month, and know a lot about the orgs they volunteer for, including what their biggest needs are.So, in summary, there seems to be a glut of less-commited group volunteers, but a huge need for consistent, dedicated, and knowledgeable individual volunteers.
