Does Iphone Data Plan Price Increase If I Travel Overseas

When we connect to VPN, does my internet usage increase more than normal?

In most VPNs, what happens is, your original IP packet is encapsulated inside another IP packet (in case of VPNs operating at layer 3 OSI) which is sent to the VPN server. The VPN server takes out the original packet from your VPN packet and does normal forwarding of it.So Yes,for the same amount of data services used, the data usage of your internet increases!VPNs are:*Slow*Use more data*MTU or MSS is decreased due to additional encapsulation*Most often Encrypted*VPN connection itself is detectable but not the actual data which is travelling in its tunnel.

What is the difference between data and roaming data?

Data and roaming data as essentially the same thing (the same kind of data). The only difference is who and where you are getting the data from. I suppose this refers to data on your mobile phone. The ‘from’ here means, the mobile data service provider.Whenever you get the data using the SIM card that doesn’t belong to the country you registered for it, is is called roaming data. For example, if you registers your mobile plan in your country (such as the USA), you are registering the SIM card in that same country. The data you get is ‘local’ data, from the USA. If you use the same SIM card when you are travelling outside of the USA, say Mexico or Thailand, then you are actually roaming because the SIM doesn’t belong to Mexico or Thailand. The data is provided by mobile data service provider local to Mexico or Thailand, not the one from the USA. So this is roaming data, which is very expensive because the service provider in Mexico or Thailand is going to charge your local (USA) service provider and your local service provider will charge you these charges on top of administrative fees and other fees. In most cases, the data is not passing through the USA but served directly to you via that country (Mexico or Thailand). Of course the original source of the data could be even somewhere else but the point is that, Mexico or Thailand is doing you a ‘favor’ by getting the data for you, although you don’t use their SIM cards. So if you wish to save money, always get a SIM card local to that country, such as a SIM card from Thailand or Mexico. Please take note that I am quoting Thailand and Mexico as examples. It is pretty much the same for any other countries as long as these countries are not where the SIM card belongs to. In case you wonder, SIM stands for subscriber identity module or subscriber identification module, which is a chip given to you by the mobile service provider, and stored inside your mobile phone so that you could get phone services on your mobile phone. In short, unless it is an emergency, your company is paying for it (normally they limit this) or it is for a short duration, try not to use roaming data. Or use any free/paid wifi available (free wifi may not be safe but that’s a different article).

Does the battery of a mobile drain faster while in the roaming network?

Battery doesn't depend on home or roaming network. But if ur phone has no network then it will drain faster because ur mobile is programmed to search for network every second which costs battery.

Why doesn't an Internet pack work on roaming in Vodafone?

Depends which roaming you are referring to. National or International Roaming. On a National Roaming too you can use internet but yes it all depends where you are. If you are at a remote place and want your data pack to work it wont.Again there are whole lot of factors that come in picture when its not working. Like your phone settings, network, etc. You can call 199 to have it looked into. For international roaming, you will have to latch on to partner network but do note that data usage is exorbitant so wont recommend make use of it.

I want to use Google Maps whilst on holiday in France. How much data do you think I will use if I drive for example 3h per day?

I will be impressed if someone in France can answer, because nobody cares. Most people and definitely those using their phone as GPS have unlimited internet. I guess it would be the same data as in your country? If you worry about your consumption and if you are from Europe, you might wanna check the new law in Europe which allows you to use some data deducted from your plan at no additional cost while traveling in Europe. If you got 3go abroad like I do you are more than fine.If you have a friend in France, you can also ask that person to open a line for you, it's very cheap, done online and it can be cancelled anytime with 0 restriction. Many people renting their apartments lend a SIM as well.

What's the difference between T-Mobile and MetroPCS? Both are owned by the same company and use the same towers. Why should I pay more for T-Mobile service?

T-Mobile and MetroPCS are owned by the same company Deutsche Telekom and use the same network however this does not mean that they use the network equally. If you read the terms and conditions of MetroPCS on their website Details it states “as a feature differentiating MetroPCS-branded service and plans from T-Mobile-branded services, data of customers who choose T-Mobile branded service plans has precedence over data of customers who choose non T-Mobile-branded service plans, such as MetroPCS, when the network is presented with competing demands” as well as statingWhich says that in times and locations where the network is heavily loaded MetroPCS customer’s will have reductions in their data speeds to free up the network for T-Mobile customers. If you are a MetroPCS customer who uses a high amount of data you will definitely see your speed lowered when the network is at high capacity to make room for T-Mobile customers so T-Mobile customers can use their devices at high speeds.Other than having data prioritized below T-Mobile, MetroPCS customers must pay their bill on time otherwise there phone's service will need shut off. Example if your monthly bill is due in the 4th of each month if you don't pay by the 4th then on the 5th of the month your service will be shut off. On a postpaid contract phone with T-Mobile if you didn't pay by the 4th your phone service will still be active you just may recieve a late fee charge.Hope this helped.

Do you prefer international SIM card or local SIM card while travelling overseas?

Hi,If all depends upon which country or countries you are travelling to. As far as I know Intenational cellular connection for a particular country is always cheap as compared to taking your Indian sim abroad. Following are the key points basis on which I am suggesting the same :-Your Local sim will always be on roaming abroad and any incoming local call or an International incoming call from India will be charged at roaming cost which will also increase the tariff on per call basis. International SIM will behave like a local number and no charges will be incurred by you for incoming. only thing you pay is for outgoing. Also outgoing call to the country abroad will be treated as local.SMS Charges to a local number abroad will be treated as an international text message from prepaid card which in India is flat Rs 5 no matter which country.Important : Data Charges are hell in case of person travelling abroad. Trust me, your overall expense in a prepaid Indian card will be on one side and charges for data will be on other side. Here Interntional connection comes in handy as data charges are quite reasonable. You can save alot on your calls and messages cost if you have a good data plan from matrix. Data on prepaid sim will be treated as international data roaming.Convenience of a local number. Various services like toll free numbers and other special numbers can only be toll free or even reachable if dialed from a local phone number in that country. Example : A toll free number in united states will only be toll free if dialed from a United states number but will be chargeable if you call on that number from India. International number will help you in that.
