Does It Look Like I Force My Jump Shot What Can I Do To Make It Better

Is it bad if I don’t jump very much in my jump shot in basketball?

The, widely considered, best shooter in the world in Steph Curry doesn’t jump much on his jump shot, and he’s made more 3 pointers than anybody.Curry basically shoots at the beginning of his jump shot. That means instead of shooting while you’re already in the air (or at the top of your shot, as most of us have been taught) he creates one fluid upward motion and lets the velocity of the motion carry his shot forward. That’s how he’s able to generate so much power despite being so deep. The simplistic way of putting it is that he channels his energy properly and at the right moment to create the greatest amount of force. In doing so he doesn’t need to jump that high.I began shooting (and playing for that matter) like Steve Nash because he was very efficient and his shot was kind of the same as Curry’s, power generated through motion not legs. So at the end of games I’m not tired as much and can still continue to be accurate. If you jump shot is accurate, continue as you are and doing worry about the jump. Focus on the placement of the ball and you should be good.Ball Isn't Height - All Things Basketball For The Under 6ft Crowd

How could I exert more force in shooting a basketball?

A lot of it has to do with legs, but that usually doesn't become a problem until you're tired (assuming you have somewhat decent mechanics to start with). Legs are usually the obvious thing to fix since most of the time all you have to do is get lower by putting your butt down. There are two very common corrections I make when coaching kids on shooting that often get overlooked: 1. Cocking their wrist all the way back; 2. Getting their hand underneath the ball. It's a quick fix that goes a long way. If you don't have a coach to work on it with you, stand in front of the mirror and imagine yourself getting ready to catch an imaginary ball. Put your hands in the proper placement to shoot with your guidehand sideways and your shooting hand adjacent with your wrist cocked all the way back. If you're doing it correctly, you should be able to see the palm of your shooting hand and the side of your pinky of your guidehand. Catch the imaginary ball and when your legs start to extend, simultaneously begin moving the ball up through your body and into your shooting motion without any hitches. It should be one, fluid motion.Correcting those 2 things will adjust the trajectory of the ball upward instead of outward and it'll be much easier to shoot from the outside (accuracy is a seperate discussion). Also, along with some leg stuff, do some shoulder, tricep, and forearm exercises to build your shooting muscles. You do all of that and you'll be firing from distance with ease.

What can I do to get a better jump shot?

Break down your jumper and see what you do.If you have a hitch in your jumper then move up right underneath the basket and shoot to see why and how to fix it.And when you done that then you can shoot slower mid ranges or at the 3 line and just break it down yourself. Now if your happy with what you jumper looks like and feels but just aren’t making consistent shots then you just have to keep shooting form muscle memory. Just like Steph does. He supposedly shoots 1k shots a day and people wonder how he’s that good at shooting. He puts in the work but his muscle memory is nearly unmatched to anyone else in shooting.

When you bend your knees when you shoot a basketball does it make your shot more accurate/consistant?

i dont really bend my knees when i shoot a basketball im not im about a 6 out of 10 i want to be like a 9 or 10 though so does bending my knees when i shoot make my shot more accurate because im a great free throw shooter and i do bend my knees on a free throw?

please answer good and by a expert.

Thanks
Nate

Should I put hang in my jumpshot or no?

Well when you're at your highest point you should release and if you do take longer to get your shot off(because you are in the air) it does give the defense some extra time to get to you or atleast make you think about the defender.

Theres little point to having hang time in your jumper. The only time hang time will help you on your jumpers is if you're trying to force up a double-clutch shot(cuz you have no choice).

How to stop my pinkie from messing up my jumpshot?

When I shoot. I shoot with my index and middle finger but when I shoot my pinkie sometimes slip off the wrong way and sine I am right handed, the ball sways to the right a lot. Can somebody please give me a tip on how to stop this.

If you need a better explantion, I can always make a video.

How can I develop a more fluid jumpshot in basketball?

First, work on your formation without the ball. Work on the jumping part first. Practice going from an athletic neutral /triple threat position  (feet shoulder width apart,  knees slightly bent) to stepping into the jump and jumping straight up. Then work on the upper body motions. Stand  about 3 feet away from the front of the rim and shoot the ball without squatting or jumping. Stay at this spot until you make 3-5 in a row. Focus on form. Then take a step back and do the same thing until you get to the free throw line and make 3-5 in a row. Now you can put the motions together. Your body should be kind of used to focusing on the motions you just practiced. Your motions should be kind of like this: Start in an athletic neutral position  and stagger your foot so that one foot is slightly behind the other.Step into the shot (bring the back foot up so that it's even with the other foot) and start the jumping motion. As soon as your back foot bwfines even woth the other foot and your weight is evenly distributed, push off the floor. This should kind of flow....start in a squat, step forward with back foot, jump straight up, push the ball upward and flick your wrist. Don't hesitate or pause once you step into the shot.
