Why does my voice sound beautiful when I sing, but when recorded, it sounds horrible?

An element worth noting in all of this is that you may be tuning your voice to what you're hearing, rather than to the acoustic of the room. When you sing, a certain percentage of the sound that you hear in real time is heard through bone, which can distort things. You may need to retrain your singing to ignore the effect of the bone, because it could be throwing you off. There's a cool trick that I love for doing this without having to record yourself all the time. Put your hand on each side up to the tragus of your ear (that little cartilage flap that's right on top of the ear opening) on each side. Put your hand there in the same position as though you were karate chopping, if that makes sense (but, obviously, gently). Then curve your fingers so that they outline the rest of your ear. You should look kind of like you're giving yourself Mickey Mouse ears if you're doing it right. Now try to speak. And try to sing, for that matter. Your voice should sound different but not THAT different. This is a pretty good approximation of what you sound like to people who aren't you. It's also a useful tool for where you should be recording your voice. Walk into a recording studio that you're thinking about using (or a room you're thinking of recording in), and try this out. If you don't feel good about the acoustic, record somewhere else!

Why does my voice sound better at night wen i sing? How can i sing in the morning just as gud as i do at night?

From a musician of 15 years...

When you sing at night your voice has already warmed up. To prepare your voice for singing in the morning, start of with some citrus, lemon preferably. Mix some lemon juice with slightly warm water, and drink away. Also, try taking a shower and letting the warm water hit your throat for about five minutes. This will help to loosen up the vocal cords. Still, be very careful about early morning singing. It's better to even talk very little when you first wake up.

How do you know your singing voice’s true quality when it sounds bad in a recording?

First of all, your singing voice might not actually be bad to others listening - it is just that you dislike it strongly since it really sounds different from what you hear in your inner ear, where the latter is a distorted version that, because of the vibrations in your skull, sounds richer than it often actually is. That is why even a great singer such as the late John Lennon disliked his voice so much since he thought it sounded different and even strange compared to what it actually was, even though millions of people around the planet were and are still touched by his wonderful singing. At the end of the day, I would personally trust a trained ear or an experienced singer rather than relying on my own biases on what I hear in myself, which is why in my opinion having a good voice teacher is necessary if you really take singing seriously.

How can I open my voice and not sound flat when I sing?

There are a lot of factors dependent on the way you sound when you sing:Your ageYour experienceBreath supportBreath controlMouth opennessYour postureHow often (or recently) you’ve practicedYour rangeWhat you’ve eaten or drankWhether or not your breathing from your diaphragmIf you’re using vibratoIf you’re forcing a belt, vibrato, or specific soundsWhat you’re trying to singThe reason I’ve listed off all of these factors is because there is a very real chance that they may be affecting your vocal quality. For example, if you’re 10–12 years old (or under), your vocal chords will not yet be fully matured, and can hinder your performance. Are your notes flat? Or is there little to no vibrato? What you can doDrop your jawPretend like there are marbles in your mouthMake sure you’re standing upright with correct posture. Don’t slouch, keep your head up and shoulders backAlways warm up! Practice singing for 15 minutes each dayIf you get a teacher they’ll help you with warm ups when they find your range.Breathe from your diaphragm (this helps with breath control/support)You’ll know you’re breathing from there if you place a book on top of your belly and can move the book up and downWhen you sing from your diaphragm, your shoulders won’t move up and downDon’t force yourself to sing a certain way (don’t worry, you’ll find your style eventually)I would also avoid belting until your develop more breath control. Belting can be dangerous for beginners, it can cause nodgules, and permanent damage to the vocal chordsFinding your range will help you avoid injuring your vocal chordsThere are some tutorials online, but I don’t recommend them. You’ll need an outside, professionally trained perspective to help you understand your rangeAvoid eating or drinking dairy, soda, alcohol, or anything with caffeine before singing. Stick to lukewarm, or hot drinks like herbal tea with honey or just hot water with honey.Things to think aboutGet a singing teacher, especially if you’re a beginner. It’ll be hard to know what’s what if you’re learning off the internet from teachers who can’t immediately guide you.Alternatively, you could join a choir; however, the teachers don’t always sort their students into the correct groupsIf you know any experienced singers, they can also help you practice

Why does my voice sound better when i sing quietly?

You are probably singing incorrectly. You are more than likely singing from your throat when you should be singing from you diaphragm. Breathe in through you nose and fill your lungs completely. Also you need to open your mouth wider when you want to hit higher notes.

Can I, who has no singing voice, become good at singing?

The first step to singing is to realize it's not that someone's voice sounds better than someone else's; it's that they hit the right notes and can vocalize them clearly. So voice training is the first step - and that's something anyone can learn, with enough practice. Some people ARE naturally born with it and for others it comes quickly with practice, and for others still it might take a long time. But it's always possible, with the right lessons. If you don't want to take lessons, that's fine. The easiest thing you can do is to take a song that you can sing without straining your voice - something within a pitch you can manage, not too high and not too low. Then, practice singing that. Do not worry about your voice not sounding 'good' or not fitting with the song. Just try to sing clearly and in tune. Hit the right notes, at the right time, at the right volume and with the right amount of force. Once you can achieve that, then you'll see people calling you a good singer. Everyone's voice is different and has its own niche. Just because you don't sound like Celine Dion/ John Mayer doesn't mean you can't sing like them. Once you realize that distinction, you'll be a lot more confident about your own voice and then could start preparing yourself to make it even better. Good luck!PS: pro-tip, singing louder lets you hit higher notes and makes you sound better - as long as you're not shouting. Also, it adds a layer of inflection that sounds professional - higher and louder notes for greater impact!

How can I tell if I have a good singing voice? I recorded myself with my phone and it sounded weird/cringy, yet others tell me I sound good.

I am a professional vocal coach and I am often asked “do I have a good voice,? can I become a singer? should I take voice lessons ?It is almost impossible to give an answer. If you like to sing, join a choir and listen to others. If your voice sounds ok , they will let you know and if it doesn’t then you will certainly be told.A good voice is no guarantee that you can become a popular singer , infact the voice is pretty unimportant in today’s technical world. How old are you, what do you look like, can you dance, act , speak various languages (classical singers). To train your voice requires DAILY hard work. A good coach can do a great deal but you must want to sing more than anything. Never listen to what friends , family etc say. Find a good honest teacher and trust him or her. Do not forget normally at Auditions there are about 400 singers per day trying out for 3 or 4 jobs. Get ready for lots of rejections . If this has not deterred you , then good luck!!!!
