How do I get Georgia red clay out of clothing?

You can remove red clay by first letting it dry thoroughly and brushing off as much as possible. Then you can rub the stain with Murphy´s Oil Soap, leave for 15 minutes, and rinse with cold water. Or, instead of the Murphy´s Oil Soap, you could use a solution of 1 tablespoon borax in a cup of water. If the spot persists, use an enzyme presoak, or soak the item in a gallon of water to which you´ve added a cup of ammonia (or use bleach if the items are white).

Is the red clay in Georgia telly red silt?

well, no, and yes...
A lot of stuff called Red Clay in Georgia is just red dirt, but there are "true" red clays as well. What determines if something is a clay, silt, or just dirt depends on the size of the grains of the material, as well as other factors.

Which kind of soil is best for growing cotton?

I lived in Georgia, U.S.A. which has red clay soil in the north and sandy loam, which is silt and clay that contains some sand, in the south. Cotton grows well in the southern part of the state, in fact, I grew it in my perennial garden just because it is a pretty plant. Of course, it’s grown commercially for the most part. While cotton likes sandy soils, these are subject to erosion by rains and high winds, so farmers have addressed this by planting rye as a cover crop. Mature rye has roots that hold the soil in place. After it matures, farmers flatten the rye a month before planting cotton. Other than, soil, cotton is very temperature sensitive which is why it only grows in tropical and sub-tropical regions. After all danger of frost is past, cotton is planted when the soil temperature is at least 60 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. Harvest of the cotton bolls begins 150–200 days after planting.Under ideal growing conditions, the temperature should hover between 90 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit. The plant develops a deep and extensive root system that makes it drought tolerant. The roots can grow as much as 1/2 inch per day, according to the University of Florida IFAS Extension. If the temperature dips below 60 degrees or above 100 degrees, the growth of the plant slows or ceases. High nighttime temperatures above 85 degrees can render the plant sterile. The cotton plant flowers non-stop until inclement fall or winter weather arrives. Once the flower is pollinated, it takes 55 days to develop a cotton boll. Cotton plants require full sunlight to adequately grow and produce bolls. If full sunlight is not received, the boll production will be dramatically reduced or stunted. Excessive morning rain can render the cotton plant sterile. The flowers fill with water, which disrupts pollination, and the plant does not get fertilized.Source: What Kind of Climate Does the Cotton Plant Require? | Hunker

Will roses grow in heavy clay soil?

Roses love clay soil.  Because of the lack of quick drainage, clay soil can be rich in certain minerals that sandy soils are not and you don't have to water as often since the soil particles are very small and tend to clump together keeping them moist. When I tested my soil and found out that the pH was above 8, I knew that the soil would be lower in phosphorus, iron and manganese.  However, it's not like I can just sprinkle the minerals on though and everything will be alright.  It doesn't work that way unfortunately.  I also learned that my particular dirt was 25% sand, 25% clay and 50% silt.  I think it is like that because where I live used to be a working farm. Most clay soil does need to be amended for many plants to do their best.  I usually start by digging a large hole, not very deep, but pretty wide.  Then I take the dirt and mix it in the wheelbarrow with compost and organic alfalfa type fertilizers (i.e. Mills Magic Rose Mix ).  I put some of the mixture back in the hole, pop in the rose and fill all around it with the rest of the mixture.  Usually there are a bunch of stones in the soil that I remove so it works out pretty well as far as having the right amount of dirt to refill the hole.I water it in well and then put pure compost on the top as a mulch. Most roses that have at least 6 hours of sun per day and soil ph close to 7.5ish do very well as long as the soil is kept moist and watered deeply when necessary.  When the leaves start to turn a lighter shade of green you know it's time for fertilizer again.

What types of crops grows in red soil?

Soil with iron usually exists as Iron Oxide (rust) which turns the soil a red color. This soil is more acidic then the average soil.Vegetables that grow best in slightly acidic souls: (ph of 6.0–6.5) would be leafy greens, peas and beets, also radishes and sweet potatoes, even peanuts.Moderately acidic soils (ph 5.5–6.5) or slightly acidic soils favor turnips, tomatoes and squash, citrus trees, strawberries, raspberries and grapes. Moderate acidic soils help grow radishes, sweet potatoes and peanuts.Blueberries and cranberries like highly acidic soils in the 4.2–5.0 range of ph.Kits that measure ph are called “Litmus papers” are an inexpensive way to test soil ph.
