How do I transfer Microsoft Office to a new computer?

Transferring Office from one computer to another depends on two things.First is the version of Office you have. If you have an OEM license version then you cannot (Legally) install it on another computer. The concept and idea of an OEM license means, you get a cheaper price (Usually), but that license is permanently tied to one particular computer. So when that particular machine is thrown out, the license of the software has to be thrown out with it.The second thing is do you have the actual license key. If you have the license key AND it is NOT an OEM license, all you have to do is uninstall the software from your old computer and reinstall it onto your new computer. Reactivate the license on the new machine and you should be done.If you have lost your CD, but still have the key you should be able to download it from here: Download Earlier Versions of Office

When can you call someone by their first name in Japan?

As others have said it’s uncommon for Japanese people to use first names with each other, and it can be very tricky for foreigners. One thing that makes it difficult is that Japanese people will often be much freer about calling you, the foreigner, by your first name - maybe because you introduce yourself that way, or maybe they just assume that they should.I would never call a Japanese adult by his/her first name unless specifically asked to do so. That rarely happens unless the person is wanting to speak to me in English, and they speak it well - perhaps have lived abroad.I have a handful of close Japanese friends I call by first name+san. They are all either female friends I have known for a very long time, or the Japanese husbands of foreign friends (which is a special situation). These are also the only friends my husband calls by first name as well - because we are all very close and/or we often speak English as a group. He doesn’t even call his best Japanese friend from college by his first name, but calls him only by his last name without -san or -kun, which shows their closeness. His best friend at work, who is a few years younger, he calls last name -kun.So, you can see that it’s quite rare for adults to use first names unless they are very, very close, and even then not always. My advice is to stick to last names unless requested to do otherwise, and/or until you are super close with someone. When you will mainly be speaking in English with someone it’s usually OK to go with the name the person uses when making introductions.

How do I use German quotation marks on a U.S. international keyboard without ALT-codes?

The German keyboard doesn't provide typographic quotation marks (inverted commas) such as in „Guten Tag!“. Neither can you type guillemets (angle quotes) such as in »Guten Abend!«.Then again, the same counts for English too. There is neither “ nor ” on a QWERTY keyboard, only ".So what do you do in English? Enable "smart quotes" in your word processor such as e.g. in Microsoft Word. Then, if you type "example", Word will automatically render that as “example”. And unless I'm mistaken, this setting should actually be on by default. So the only thing you need to do for German quotation marks is enable German spell checking by selecting the text and setting its proofing language to "German (Germany)". Word will then render "Beispiel" as „Beispiel“. Two additional thoughts:You might need to buy a "language pack" for German, but it's worth the money, since it will also catch your typos as well as some grammar mistakes. Angle quotes are rarely used in standard German, but if you must, make sure they point inwards: »hallo« – unlike in French, where they point outwards: «bonjour».
