Does The Us Congress Recognize Our Immigration Laws

Do current US Immigration laws make America the laughing stock of the world?

I’ve lived in 3 Continents and in over 5 Countries. I’ve been a US Citizen for 37 years now. I can assure you that the US has the world’s weakest and most laughable border security. In 100% of the world, EXCEPT for USA, there are SEVERE consequences for those who try to cross the border illegally, they are arrested, imprisoned and in MOST Countries, such as Turkey’s borders, Eastern Europe’s borders, some are even murdered in those prisons. Those who survive, await their trial in prison, held without a charge and with no rights to an Attorney. The border crossers are basically criminals, ANY ONE PERSON who does anything illegal, is in fact a criminal, and they are treated as such.No one hears a word of that anywhere in the world; but in USA, the absolute smallest action taken against a criminal, the liberals make such a HUGE deal about it and they scream it from all over the rooftops. What I cannot understand, why are they being so loose with the laws, and why they keep making laws against the law abiding citizens, for the criminals? This is something I never understood since my immigration to the US from Europe. We should come FIRST. GOOD PARENTS take good care of their children FIRST and then they can go out and take care of the orphans and the widows, and NOT the other way around!!!In every single Country that I lived, the ENTIRE population backs the president, against everyone else and every other Country, at least it was so back in those days, unlike these days, it just seems that people want to rule and do whatever they please and expect to be free to commit any criminal act, and that’s what I see, in this, what used to be the GREATEST COUNTRY in the world, and it STILL IS in some ways, but I wonder for how long???It is very sad to see one group of people who hate the president so much that are willing to sacrifice America just so that they show the president he didn’t succeed in keeping his promise to take America back to its glory. VERY SAD.

Puerto rico immigration question?

First and more important, you and your friend are not deciding whether or not puertoricans are born legal American citizens. That was decided back in 1917.

In 1917, Congress signed the “Jones Act” into law. This law granted all puertoricans the American citizenship. In other words, puertoricans have the American citizenship guaranteed by Congress, unlike everybody else that has their citizenship guaranteed by the Constitution.

It will take another act of Congress to withdraw or reverse the Jones Act.

Would Abraham Lincoln support comprehensive immigration reform?

Yes, Abraham Lincoln would support comprehensive immigration reform. He believed in the dignity of all, especially those who were not counted-- like slaves. He gave his life to defend the Union, a country divided by slavery. In this time and place, I have no doubt that Lincoln would again give his life to defend the Union, even when we are ripped apart over an issue like immigration. Lincoln's solution would also recognize the human dignity of those whom others would easily discard.
