Does This Mean I Join The Usmc If I Had Eczema Before But Not After The Age Of 12

Eczema and the USMC..?

When I was younger I had eczema a lot but the last time I went to the doctors for it I was about 12 or around that. Anyways I haven't had it act up in awhile and I just learned that if you have a history of that your are not allowed to join the Marines? Is there anyway around this? Or should I even bring it up when they ask me? I honestly forgot I had it till someone told me I might not be able to join because of this.

History of Eczema and The USMC?

I'm 21 and when I was really young I apparently was diagnosed with eczema. I recently found out that this can keep you from joing the military? Is that true? If so would I be able to get a waiver for it? I think the last time I went to the doctors for it I was maybe 9 or 10. Some said the cut of for the army is 9 and the USMC was 12?

Medical waiver for eczema?

Army Regulation 40-501 2-28b, current or history of atopic dermatitis (691) or eczema (692) after the 9th birthday does not meet the standard.

The above governs medical qualification for the US Army, Army Reserves, and National Guard.

DODI 6130.03 22b, current or history of atopic dermatitis (691) or eczema (692.9) after the 12th birthday.

The above governs the MINIMUM qualifications for all branches of the US military. The Marines use the DODI, I am not sure what the Navy and Air Force uses. If they do not use the DODI, it will still be a disqualification because they have will have to at least include the standards listed in it.

What that means is that it is a disqualifying condition for entrance in the military. It will require a waiver for enlistment. It is usually a pretty easy waiver to get unless it is large patches. From what our MEPS doctor tells me, there is also a type of eczema which reacts with the small pox vaccine and can kill you. That is a permanent disqualification with no waiver authorized.

If you feel that it was not eczema, go to a doctor and get a second opinion. If the MEPS doctor sees it he will schedule you for an appointment with a local civilian dermatologist as well.

If I have eczema, will I be disqualified from joining the military?

Yes, Current or history of atopic dermatitis or eczema after the 9th birthday is disqualifying and I have linked the Navy's Manual of Medicine chapter on medical qualifications below. All branches have similar medical requirements in this regard. The above paragraph being stated this is usually an extremely easy waiver to get so don't lie to the doctor.According to the current Naval guidelines(the Navy actually tends to be the strictest branch medically since they operate in the most isolated environments): Psoriasis, eczema, recurrent rashes, or atopic dermatitis that may be worsened by the work environment to the extent that function is impaired or unacceptable risk of secondary infection is incurred are disqualifying. In laymen's terms this means that if it can be controlled with basic over the counter measures without causing an infection (which is the vast majority of patients) you should be fine.Check chapter 15 of the link below.http://www.med.navy.mil/directiv...

I want to go to the NAVY but I have a Eczema. I beg you, please help me. ?

I'm afraid, very afraid... that I will not be able to go to the NAVY because I have a history of eczema (mine is quite xerotic/atopic nature, but my doctor only told it's just eczema, no describer.). My eczema is controllable with moisturizers like petroleum jelly or shea butter and It's not severe, it's only a rash/dryness that is not even noticeable...it's just small (But I still have a history of eczema which is a no-no for them).
But I saw on all the NAVY sites that eczema will disqualify me with the navy and they are not waiver-able.
My eczema lasts about from 3 weeks to 3 months when i use moisturizers and they only occur when it's winter.
I'm a 19 year old, Legal Permanent resident and decided to go to the navy, whatever the Job is.
But it makes me sad everyday to think that my dream will be crushed by a skin disorder.... and actually, going to the navy is my only ticket to make my life better and be independent (get my citizenship and have a simple peaceful life after I get out from the service), SO I REALLY DON'T WANT TO BE DISQUALIFIED. oh no...oh God. Can anybody help me please?

I mean, I could say otherwise to the recruiter/MEPS but you see, If I do that... The smallpox vaccine (which can cause eczema vaccinatum to me) will be my most dreadful enemy in the end (because they'll want me to take it), and I couldn't lie and say I didn't have eczema because the proof will be all-over my body after the vaccination.

I just don't want to give up, this is my chance, this is my only ticket to improve my life for better.
I'm so confused and I'm in despair...
Could someone who has the same experience like me, or anyone who worked with these case before be kind enough to help me?

thank you and Godbless....
Pray for me too.. I'll really need them. Thanks.

Lying about asthma at meps.?

I don't have asthma attacks, just a mild cough after I run. I really want to serve and my mos will be 11b. I'm already speaking to a recruiter. I just wanted to know what would happen if they found out 2 years later. I'm the type of guy where I will hide my problems as best as I can, and not show any weakness whats so ever. so I don't think anyone will find out.
