Driving Alone For The First Time

First time driving alone..?

My first time driving alone was great, but it could be a little daunting at times. I grew up driving various things around farmland, and the like, too.

Be both confident in your ability, but cautious in that you don't have much experience yet. Also, you'll need to learn how to spot potential problems, like seeing someone acting stupid or drunk, and avoiding them. That will come, just keep alert, pay attention and know your limits.

Some of the fun is getting lost, too, and finding new paths and places you didn't know existed. You'll probably want to get a local map to keep in the car, and take some time to look over it and know the major routes in your area. For instance, no matter how lost I may get, if I can find one of the major state highways, I know they'll take me back to someplace I know.

As for doing something that your parents would have stopped, you should know those, whether you realize it or not, and really, most traffic laws are fairly logical and exceptions--like no right on red--fairly well marked. (On the right on red thing, remember that the people on the other side may have a left turn arrow).

Mainly, be safe and have fun.

First time driving alone?

IT'S AWESOME. At first it's really weird because it's so quiet. I mean you're always in the car with someone to talk to, but then you're not. Get everything ready before hand. Directions (you should really go somewhere you know how to get to) radio, seat, mirrors etc.

Don't allow yourself to get too worked up. When I first got my license (I'm 17 now) I was late for school and forgot my backpack, so I turned around. I pulled in the driveway, and was so stressed that I messed up and hit the wrong pedal, then hit my mom's boyfriend's car. REMEMBER WHERE THE PEDALS ARE.

Don't think too much about that last part :). Bottom line, have fun! Be aware, and be prepared. Don't be a chicken when yeilding to turn left or turning right on red, but don't do anything your parents wouldn't approve of. You get better with practice.

How was it driving alone for the first time?

My dad is making me take his good car and drive to college alone tmrw, I have done it many times to many places but with my mom. I'm so scared idk why, it's 5-10 minutes and not hard but I'm nervous it normal, I guess. But I'm still scared my turns need a tiny working on but they r fine.
I'm 18 and yes never drove alone because there wasn't a car at first but now there is, I want to but I don't. Help!?

Driving for the first time alone?

I just passed my road test on my first try and got my license. I also have my own car. I've been saying I hate the school bus for a while now and really wish to rely on myself to get to and from school.

However now that it's finally here I'm a little nervous. Should I go out by myself for the first time Monday to school? Or should I go to the mall and meet a friend first over the weekend? What if I get really scared or something? Ahh what have I gotten into!

Driving on freeway alone for the first time?

So I am going on a short trip, less than an hour long, which requires me to drive on a major freeway for most the trip. I will be by myself throughout. I am a little nervous, although I have driven on it before with my parents. Is this normal? What kind of tips can you give me on the freeway? Thank you, your answers will help calm my nerves.

I am 18 and haven't been in an accident, yet, knock on wood, nor have I received any tickets... knock on wood.

I am just a little apprehensive. I have two days until I need to leave for the trip. It will be day time, but I will be driving back at night. Again, I have driven on the freeway at night on longer trips with my parents, but being alone is just, different. Thanks.

Any advice for driving alone for the first time?

Hi There,Firstly, a huge well done for passing your driving test!Being nervous to drive alone for the first time is very common, however doesn’t have to be daunting. Driving alone for the first time?

I felt the same way when I first wanted to drive by myself. It's really not that bad, trust me. If you passed your practical driving test and have your provisional drivers licence that you are more than capable of driving by yourself. I am sure that once you drive by yourself you will realize you don't really rely on the person in the passangers seat as much as you think you do.

I felt exactly how you're feeling.
I drove to my firends house to pick her up.
Nothing... I was prefectly fine.

What are some tips for driving alone for the first time when I'm not very confident in my driving?

Congratulations on your license! Now, as someone who has rode with both of my younger siblings while they learned to drive (and survived), here's my suggestions:Check that everything is set before you pull the car out. Seat belt buckled. Radio off.Cell phone on silent, out of your reach. Fuel level is good.Directions to where you are going are clear/navigation on.Narrate what you are doing. It's not weird if no one hears!  "Ok, I'm slowing down here for the stop sign.  Look each direction.  Clear, go.  About to change lanes-- turn signal, look front, side, back, check that it's clear, ok move now.  I need to turn left up ahead on Main."  Pull over if you need to.  Even if you just want to check the GPS, find a safe place to do it out of the way of traffic.Be extra cautious with your speed/braking/space awareness.  This is something everyone struggles with until they get a feel for it.  Watch for the area speed limit.  Apply the brakes evenly with plenty of room to stop.  Give other cars space.Basically, practice doesn't end when you get your license.  Sooner or later, driving will feel natural and you won't need to focus as hard to do it.  However, even once this happens...Never drive under the influence of drugs/alcohol.Never drive while distracted.

Driving alone to school for the first time? Help!?

Hi, I turned 16 not too long ago (I'm a girl) and I'm a sophomore in high school and for my birthday my grandparents said that if I got a certain amount of money that they would match it so that I could get a car, and I did and I just got my license which means that I can drive myself to school now but I have a lot of questions.

First off I am going to drive by myself for the first time to school alone in my own car on Monday and I'm super nervous because I've never really driven alone and I'm afraid that something will happen or whatever, I don't really know, but I'm just nervous. Anyone have any tips on how to not be so scared or nervous when driving to school by myself for the first time? I just feel more comfortable when someone is with me. I was thinking about maybe taking my little sister along with me because we go to the same school, she's just in the middle school building. And she usually rides with my mom.

Also, I was wondering if it would be a good idea to put my keys on a lanyard because I've only had the car for a few days and I'm already misplacing my keys and I feel like a lanyard might help in a way because even if I'm just holding my keys I just can't hold on to the key I need something to put on my wrist or around my neck so I don't lose them.

Oh and do you think it would be easier if I kept an old iPod in my car to listen to music instead of listening to the radio? I'm one of those people who are constantly messing with the radio trying to find stations or songs that I like. So I was thinking about putting songs I like on my old little iPod and keeping it plugged into my car to listen to instead of the radio. Do you think that would work?

I'm also kind of afraid that people will judge me based on the type of car that I decided to buy. Honestly I think that if it runs and it's comfortable that it doesn't matter what kind you have but there's people at my school who are like picky about certain car brands and such and I feel like they will judge my car. I actually love my car. It's a 2014 Kia forte and I think it's nice, especially on the inside because i got the tech package. What do I do if people tell me that like my car sucks or that the brand is stupid?

Sorry that this is really long I'm just nervous.

What is your feeling when you are driving alone for the first time?

For me, it was freedom. And I don't mean a “I can do anything and go anywhere now!” But that beautiful kind of introverted freedom where you now have this excuse to have brief moments of time by yourself, free from judgement of others.I found driving very stressful when I first started learning with my parents. My mom gets bad motion sickness so I felt bad making her a passenger just so I could drive so I was always worried that I was making her dizzy with every time I was braking and accelerating. I'm kind of a people pleaser in general so regardless of who was with me, I found myself constantly wanting to be the best driver possible for the sake of my passengers and feeling really terrible every time I made a mistake. Then I got my license. From the first day I got to drive by myself, I could tell it was different from driving with passengers. I didn't care as much about being perfect since a tight turn or a hard brake only affected me (this inadvertently made me a better driver when I'm alone because I'm less tense and therefore, better at reacting to things without extreme panic). I was able to listen to the music I liked and talk through my thoughts out loud without disturbing anyone. It is a little slice of introvert heaven that I get to have every day!
