During The School Holidays I Feel Down - What Can I Do

Do you love or hate school holidays?

LOL, I'm a teacher, so I love them. Tomorrow is a workday for us though, and I have to admit, I'd kind of like the kids to be there with me long enough to watch the inauguration. We showed the kids Obama's acceptance speech and McCain's concession speech and talked about how important this election is regardless of political beliefs, and I feel like they gained a lot more from it than from the one-sided political beliefs their parents have. I would have liked the chance to watch it live with them, but I'm just going to tape it and show it to them the next day. So yeah, I usually love holidays b/c you're stuck with your own kids. :)

What can I do to feel productive during long school holidays? I feel like I waste my days.

Find an interest outside of school to pursue.Play an instrument. Start a hobby. Free write. Go on hikes. Have something that you can intentionally, constructively, put your time and effort into when you have it available. For me, it’s Scouting…and I of course recommend it highly, but you have to find something that works well for you.

Why do people feel so depressed during the holidays?

The holidays are treated with treacle and bullshit. Ads pound the idea of the loving, respectful, accepting family that we all know is usually bullshit. But the fictional portrayal of such fantasies dominate the culture during this time. The perceived difference between these corporate fantasies and the reality of many families leads the individual to feel sad and often hopeless. The distance between the ideal and the real is a bridge too far for many of us. The egregious manipulation of corporate interests at this time leads many who are vulnerable to sadness and loneliness to feel even worse as they know their families don’t come close to the corporate lies supporting the consumerism of the festival of light.

OMG! i dont want to go back to school after christmas holiday! HELP! are u lot dreading it too?

I feel exactly the same - but I know I feel like this everytime, after summer and after christmas holidays. All you have to do is think positively - you WILL get back into the swing of things, because I'm sure you've felt this way before and you will always get used to life back at school. Tomorrow, just think about getting to see your friends (if they have stayed on at sixth form) and look forward to getting home and making yourself a cup of tea/hot chocolate, then watching your favourite tv show with a family member, or reading a book. The only thing getting me through is the fact that 90210 is back on tonight, so I can relax and watch it this evening and go to bed feeling happy and thinking about 90210 instead of school and other issues in my life - it sounds shallow, but it works, so I don't mind.
Good luck, and remember to forget about the jittery feelings you have about tomorrow, it's natural to be nervous, and the feelings will pass.

How to change my life over the summer holidays?

Haha I always wondered how people celebrate the "winter" holidays down there... Do you go tan at the beach?

I don't think it's realistic to completely change your entire life in a few weeks' time, but you can definitely make some changes that might hopefully affect bigger parts of your life. For example, a makeover might make you feel new and fresh, which will give you the confidence to start on a new page. I read for a school project one time that a lot of times people are scared to make changes in one area of their life (like their love life for example) because other areas of their life (like family or friendship) are kept unchanged and they're scared that one wrong thing will ruin everything for everybody. So maybe all you need is a new attitude and a haircut and some new make up? Sounds simple, but there's honestly not sure way to completely change yourself. You can also try doing new things, something adventurous that will push you out of your comfort zone and prove to you that you CAN achieve anything you put your mind too. Take a crazy trip, talk to some random people at the beach (embarrassing, but they're strangers so it's not like they matter at all), etc.

As for the popularity thing, don't try too hard. The popular people are just that because they decided they are, and trying to beat them at the game they'd invented would only make them mad. Just be yourself, maybe a bit braver, but still yourself, and those who really matter will see how much they could learn and how much they could grow by being around you. And as for the friends, try planning some stuff for you guys to do together, but don't stress it. I know from experiences that there are periods when friendship just isn't as strong and you seem to pull apart, but most times they're just that- periods, and everything will return to normal soon.
Hope I helped, good luck and merry Christmas (:

Oh holidays! The word which makes us jump out of joy whenever we hear it be it in childhood / adulthood. The reason why you get depressed, is that- during the holidays, you become engrossed in those activities which you love doing than what you do in your routine days ; and then you are bound to return to the monotonous routined life and you start missing these:-or might be thisor ,or undoubtedly this too,The post-holiday blues might not be a recognized syndrome, but it is something which darkens the first few days after a break for many of us.Now here's how you can cope up your post holiday depression:-Don't wait for the holidays to do the things you love- In between your work/study hours devote sometime for yourself too as this will keep you motivated.Do exercises to calm your mind.Have a positive attitude-Don't despair thinking that holidays are over now. May is yet to come my friend & you can immerse yourself again in the mirth of holidays. You can plan for your summer holidays too.Thank you:-)

Do I still have to slow down in a school zone if school is not in session but the lights are still blinking?

Yes. The sign usually says to go the speed posted when the lights are blinking in the school zone. You might get stopped by some butt-head cop and he will give you a warning or ticket for speeding. Some of the cops wouldn't care but the you have the mean ones out there.

Why do I feel so anxious before I go at school every morning?

Hey there.

I'm 17 year old male, currently in the 11th grade/ Form IV at my school. Anyway, I have a problem. Every morning, when I wake up, I get this nervous, anxious feeling and a sort of pain in my stomach.

This began late last year because we were cramming so much work in, in a relatively short amount of time as the exams approached (that is because of the FIFA World Cup. We had extended holidays). Yet, I assumed that after the December holidays the anxiety would stop because I was more relaxed. However, it has started again (started school on Wednesday).
It gets so bad that I can barely eat my breakfast (which is normally muesli with plain yogurt and fruit juice), thus forcing me to eat either peanut butter on toast or a sugary cereal (which I dread doing, because I am trying to lose weight).

So I really do not know what is wrong. But it gets really bad on the day that we have Physical Education. I get so nervous because I am overweight, and I really dislike having to swim because I get nauseous and weak afterwards (when we are doing time trails). I also cannot do any pull-ups, and I can do very few push-ups or sit-ups. I don't mind so much if we are playing soccer, touch rugby or cross-country, it's just those few things I really loath.
I always feel that people are judging me, and there is this one person currently in my class who used to tease me during my second year in high school, but I ignore him because he really is unintelligent (though he appears to have grown up a bit this year).

I guess my problem does extend because I am ashamed of my body, because I really am fat (I have a large stomach). I used to be an emotional eater, but I have managed to gain control. Whenever I feel sad or angry, I just do something like read or write [my novel] or even go take a swim outside in my pool. I try to avoid the kitchen as much as possible unless I am really hungry.
There are other personal and family-related issues that I have, but I doubt it has anything to do with the current situation (unless it is the stress I gain from it, but I don't know).

What can I do to rectify the problem? This anxiety is driving me insane and I am afraid that it may get worse.

Thank you for your help.
