Ear Piercing Gun Vs Needle

Ear piercings- Gun or needle?

Guns can never be cleaned properly, and the "piercers" get little to not training at all. They use pressure to get the stud through, which creates a lot of scar tissue and severely damages the area around the piercing. The healing time like about 4x longer than a piercing done with a needle, and you're way more likely to get an infection. NEVER EVER EVER get your cartilage done with a gun. They will NOT get the angle right, and even worse, your cartilage may collapse, completely shattering the cartilage itself. Would you want to look like this?

Needles are painless. Do it the right way if you don't want to look like that.

Ear piercing.. Gun vs Needle?

Lobes done with a hollow needle will heal in 2-3 months. Done with a piercing gun and you're looking at 4-6 months. Piercing guns double everything.

They also bring a lot more trauma, the inability to have proper implant grade jewelry that is sterile put into the healing wound, the lack of anything being sterile, and the risk of a lot more problems during healing.

If you're going to a professional then your only option is a hollow needle. If a professional piercer gives you the option of gun or needle then they don't know what they are doing and do not have your health or safety in their interest and you should definitely find a way better piercer.

Ear Piercings..Needle vs. Gun?

sooo a couple years ago i got my ear pierced in the cartilage with a gun. it never completely healed and got infected like...weekly. it got swollen up so bad the last time my hoop had to be cut out with pliers. now i have a little bump scar thing on the front and sort of a line in the back where my ear bends if i push on it. im not sure if the hole is still there since i had it for about 2 years. but i dont think id put the earring back in even if there was... soooo do you think i had problems because i had i done with a gun? is a needle less painful? im thinking of getting another stud in my other ear...(same spot) and an industrial bar thingy in that ear because it wouldnt be through the scar. so if it wasnt the gun that was the problem is it maybe just me? i made sure to always get hypoallergenic nickel free earrings...but if its just me i prolly shouldnt get nemore cartilage piercings. lol

Ear piercing: gun vs needle?

Guns cannot be sterilized - needles can

Because of the force of the dull ear ring, guns cause excessive trauma and do not create proper holes - needles create proper holes while causing little trauma

Guns are used by poorly trained teenagers - needles are used by professionals that have made a career out of piercing and have studied for years

Guns use improper jewelry that is too short and made of crappy quality metals - places where needles are used have surgical steel and implant grade titanium jewelry in proper lengths without the crappy butterfly back

Places using piercing guns give the wrong aftercare information - find a reputable professional piercer with good reviews and you won't have that problem.

Guns aren't quicker than needles...needles go through just as fast as a gun would. It takes a second to get the jewelry through after the needle goes through.

Needles for the win, always.

UTI's won't affect your piercing.

What Is So BAD About Using A GUN To Pierce Ears VS A NEEDLE...?

It depends what you are getting pierced.

If you are getting your ear lobe (the lower fleshy part), I say go ahead and get it done with a gun. It won't make a big hole (which is good! because the lobes are stretchy and unless you plan on gauging your holes, you will want them small). It is cheaper. If you get a good quality metal (preferably gold at places like Claire's), then you are not very likely to get infections if you follow the cleaning instructions. (Don't take the earrings out early or you might not be able to get them back in!!). Piercing with a gun tends to be cheaper, because the piercing is free, and you are just paying for the earrings.

If you are getting your cartilage pierced, it's really better to get it done with a needle at a safe, clean, reputable place. The cartilage is very hard and will not stretch easily to accomodate the earring. That makes it very painful to sleep on. It also heals much more slowly. A gun is okay, I had mine done that way, but it took months to heal. Also, it will be easier for the person doing the piercing to get a good angle in the cartilage with a needle. The gun does not have much flexibility in placement, because it is bulky and there is not much room to maneuver, so it might not end up exactly where you wanted it.

If you are getting anything else pierced (belly button, eyebrow, etc.) it cannot be done with a gun. Don't even consider it!

Ear cartilage piercing, gun or needle?

For the love of piercings DO NOT GET IT WITH A GUN! Why? The guns CANNOT be cleaned/sterilized due to how they are constructed. Everyone who advises you to go with the gun is ill advised. I don't know how much Claire's charges but you should get it done by a piercer at a piercing place. It may be more expensive but you get what you pay for in the best and worst of ways! Never go by the gun PLEASE!

Also, if you're concerned about the pain factor, then definitely do not go the gun way. If it becomes infected because of the dirty gun it will hurt so much worse than if you had gotten it pierced with a needle. I don't know if guns hurt less than needles because I've only gotten pierced by needles but if they do just suck it up and take deep breathes while the needle's going in. You'll be much happier and better off going by the needle ^-^

Ear lobe piercing with a needle?

I find the needle piercings a little less painful than gun piercings, but the healing is no comparison, needle piercings heal so much faster, and theres no problem with jewellery.

But nearly all Blue Bananas are rubbish, with the odd exception, I would suggest going somewhere else. Which one were you thinking of going to?
Lobes are cheap in most proper tattoo and piercing studios, and its worth paying extra to get a good piercing.

Edit:
Not living in Bristol I don't know much about the piercers there. But have a read of this thread http://www.bodyjewelleryshop.com/forum/s...
The people there are nice, and I've trusted them with recommendations before. And it turned out great.

I haven't heard great things about the Bristol BB...
But I've heard a few other good things about pierced up, I'd try there.

Cartilage ear piercing..gun or needle?

I've had 3 cartilage piercings. 2 with needles and 1 with a gun. All of them have been great. They all took about a year to heal which is normal for a cartilage piercing. I've heard that needles are safer but I have never had a bad experience with a gun. Personally, I don't think it matters how you get the piercing as long as you take the time to clean it. If you don't clean it, it will get infected. I used the ear care solution provided to me and hydrogen peroxide. That seemed to keep all of them nice and clean.

Cartilage piercing... gun or needle?

needle is MUCHMUCHMUCH better. The rumors are true! here are just a few reasons why you should get pierced with a needle:
Guns force a blunt earrings into the ear. This raises your chance of infection, keloids, cysts, and abcyss. It is NOT sterile with a gun b/c guns are made of plastic and the only way to properly clean equipement is to autoclave it with high super hot heat and water. The plastic of the gun would melt under the heat. All they do is wipe a lil' with a alchohol pad and note: alchohol does NOT kill blood born pathogens such as HIV (aids), and the hepatitis virus. On the other hand, if you go to a proffesional piercing parlor and get pierced with a piercing needle, it is much better because: 1. it hurts less. it cleanly slices a crescent shaped hole into your ear as opposed to gun, literally blasting a hole into your ear. 2. They are 1x use so you can be comforted that your needle has been used only on YOU. Also, piercing parlors are all about sterile and cleanliness, I know know one place that changed latex gloves at least 6 times during the procedure! They autoclave anything else that touched you. 3. After getting pierced by a needle, the healing process is less than a gun, your chance of infection, cysts, keloids, etc, is signifigantly less. 4. Your piercing parlor will give you (most likely) free aftercare checkups. On places that use piercing guns (i.e. claires, piercing pagoda, wal mart) they say if you suspect an infection or anything is wrong just see a doctor. Piercing parlors tell you you can come see them any time and are happy to help. They also care about you and will spend lots of time helping you. They give you excellent after care advice (ie sea salt with anti-microbial soap) much MUCH better than those piercing guns' horrible antiseptic solution that often contains harsh ingriedients such as alchohol, hydrogen peroxide, and Hibiclens . This is an excellent website to consult for piercing parlor refferals and info: http://www.safepiercing.org/

Good luck with your piercing and I hope you make the right choice.
