If there's a spider on my ceiling, should I remove it or let it be before I go to bed?

Hard to step on a spider that's on the ceiling. This applies to spiders and people in most of the planet, actually. Maybe Australia has some nasty spiders, but you'll have to ask an Australian arachnidologist for details.In short, the spider poses no risk to you and is doing you a favor by cleaning up your bedroom of unwanted intruders.
