Engineering Project Idea

HiI was just ignoring these kind of questions… But I have decided to answer this one question…& very similar to this like what's the best Project IDEA for an Electronic/ Computer/Mechanical/Electrical/Civil…etc., and FIRST YEAR/SECOND/THIRD/Final year…kind of questions.I have guided many students from first year to final year from various disciplines like Computer Science/Electronics/ Mechanical/ Mechatronics…Civil etc., All Projects were disciplinary in nature. With this background I hope…am eligible to answer this question.First of all…In the Era of intellectual property…whom do you think that they give you the Best IDEA? Nobody!!!Anyone can list some or give links(URLs) which give some kind of input. But this in no way helps. Because…your interests may be different, may not have the right knowledge to do that. But intention of the question is fantastic. Thumbs up for that. It suggests that you are moving towards an experiential Engineering Education.I suggest the following points:Identify your domain (very difficult & takes time)Get a good GUIDE who works/capable of guiding you in the choosen domain.Identify the Realworld Problem.Make sure…it needs a solution. Need analysis.Try to solve it….different ways!. For this you must have the necessary knowledge.Find the optimum solution.Engineering is all about Creating something/Finding solutions to a problem.Your solution may become a PROJECT.Initially you may work on borrowed idea but later you must have your own original idea. All these can happen only under some kind of guidance/mentoring…from the right kind of persons. Projects should involve at least 2 or more persons depending on the enormity of the project.I have seen many first year Students doing fantastic than final years. It's the ZEAL that diffentiates not the knowledge! You need to have the right kind of support in terms of atmosphere/infrastructure/guidance.Hopefully my answer gives… some kind of clarity… about what you wanted?

Are you looking for an idea for a school project, to learn a new skill, to make money, solve the worlds problems…I will suggest one thing though. Every community has needs. Every community has amazing non-profit organizations that are dedicated to helping their communities. All these organizations can benefit from all sorts of software to help them operate more efficiently and effectively and reach larger audiences. But almost always these organizations lack the knowledge and funds necessary to build software for their needs.Try reaching out to some of these organizations within your community and ask them what their needs are. See how you may be able to help them help others. You will enjoy what you’re doing even if its for free and you will be impacting your entire community in a positive way. They will be fulfilling and meaningful projects. At Bitbean.com we have been taking this approach ever since we started the company. We have been asking our local community organizations what they needed and we have been providing it to them almost always for free. I must say it is extremely fulfilling and meaningful. These are the projects all the engineers in the company want to work on. Everyone wants to work on meaningful projects.Good Luck!

Engineering Project Idea?

Find a park or rural area with a stream, get an OK from governing authorities or local landowner, and build a pedestrian bridge - the real thing. Push yourself, make it a suspension bridge, a curved suspension bridge. Add some new idea of your own.

Or a perfect, functional, scale model of a great historic milestone. The study and analysis would be invaluable. Do something that fits in, augments its surroundings.

It shouldn't be difficult to find an engineer who would be willing to check your work, both during design and during construction. Exuberance and effort are magnets, you'll be able to find the help you need if you have the right attitude.

Carefully documenting your steps, from discussions with the community to load analysis to scale models to final product seems like a pretty cool project to me. Challenging, but if that's what you like then go for it, the rewards will be long-lasting, both for you and for those who have helped/been helped.

Hey, I'll offer what assistance I can. Drop me a line.

Civil Engineering project ideas?

permeable paving, although that could be taken as SUDS and everybody seems to be doing that.

I've got an idea for you:

The floods in Newcastle caused a block of flats to be demolished as the damage to the area regarding the piles was quite severe.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-20039009

You could look at option that would have saved the building and look at better flood prevention schemes. Might not be what your looking for but is very relevant for Uk Civil Engineering at the moment.

Edit: Yes its enough to begin with but still very vague you will have to narrow it down a bit. For instance you have said flood protection you would be interested in. In the Newcastle floods if a technique such as rainwater harvesting was in place they may have been averted and the rain water gathered could then have been used as "grey water" for the local houses reducing water bills. That there in itself is a project, you just have to narrow it down. I don't think foundations would work as then you would be combining geotechnics and flood defence, same for coastal erosion as different subject from flood defence needs to be one or the other.

Best talking to your advisor they will advise you best, but at least you have an idea now

EDIT: Yes i have a background in civil engineering although not much better than yours I'm only starting to establish myself in this career. You can email me through my profile if you wish. Glad to have been of some help.

Edit I studied at Glasgow Caledonian University in BSC(HONS) Environmental Civil Engineering. I would advise against sustainability aswell as everybody does it, you want yours to stand out. The Earthquake one sounds good and would make a good dissertation as not many go down this root.

Everybody is nervous about their dissertation, I did mines on the affects of Vortex shedding on piers over open flow channels and i didn't know where to start with it.

Project Ideas for an Electrical Engineer?

Since I am interested in bicycle products, and ways to improve my fitness, I suggest a cheaper alternative to the Power Tap hub. Power Tap hubs start at around $900.00. It has a strain gauge in the hub, and therefore can calculate your power output pretty accurately. There are cheaper power meters out there, but they aren't as accurate in my opinion. Power Tap can be interchangeable with other bikes by removing the whole wheel and putting it in another bike ( since the strain gauge is part of the hub, ie. part of the whole wheel assembly). Maybe you could integrate a strain gauge into the cassette (the rear gear cluster that slips over the freewheel part of the hub and is easily removable). Therefore, the torque from the rear sprockets is transferred to a carrier cylinder, then on to the splines of the freewheel assembly, with the strain gauge in between the two parts(carrier cylinder and freewheel ).

Mechanical Engineering Project Ideas?

Go to this website: http://behrend.psu.edu/academic/engineer...

click on any of the programs from years past and it will bring up a PDF of many engineering senior design projects. Just scroll down to Mechanical Engineering to get an idea of the different projects each group did over the years: they are very diverse so you should get many ideas.

Software engineering project ideas plz?

Create a FIFO queueing system for a live fast food chain, along with a touchscreen system that actually looks good. I hate waiting for my food only to see the person behind me get their food first, while looking at these registers that should have been retired 15 years ago. You could probably even market it to real chains if it is good enough.

Final year Software engineering project idea....?

Make some hydrogen fuel apparatus deal that uses the sun to break down water and use the gas to produce a flame to heat a pipe hot enough to create a sound wave that you could use on an acoustical generator to run a small fridge that holds cold beer.

The project ideas for a btech project in chemical engineering can be broadly divided into two categories :Theoretical projectExperimental projectA theoretical project is good in comprehensively enhancing your fundamentals of chemical engineering. Generally in such a project you basically design a chemical plant. You choose your product and check its techno - economic feasibility. You start from the scratch, find out the basic chemistry, the latest and best technology used, carry out the material and energy balance, design the equipments and component processes used and estimate the overall cost of the plant along with the profitability. Such a project is relatively simple than experimental and will also be effective when you apply for a job .Experimental projects are more rigorous.  They require a lot of effort and extensive lab work. Generally btech students are provided as an assistance to phd students for their thesis work. A relevant part of their project is given to you and you are asked to find a result which can be used by the phd students.  If your work is credible enough you can even get it published. Such kinds of projects are more fruitfull if you are planning to apply for an MS degree from abroad. Note: Try to chose a simple process for your feasibility project for which ample data is available in internet. For example, you can chose ammonia production, urea production,  ammonium sulphate, nitric acid, phenols, ethanol etc. You can also use some simulation software to simulate your plant. It will enhance the credibility of your work.
