English Sub Vs English Dub

English dub vs english sub?

I prefer dub in most cases. In some shows, like Ghost Stories, the dubbed version is much more funnier than the subbed one. However, some shows are ruined by the voice-overs because of bad acting :( And you're right about the free language lesson! :)

English sub vs English dub?

What do you all prefer. I personally prefer the English sub. For multiple reason 1 it's the closest to the manga with the dialog as in the English version do not say the same things it's like watching a different show. 2 it sounds better with the characters in Japanese audio since that's how it's made. And finally the theme songs change depending in the show.

Is English dub Goku more heroic than English sub Goku?

Yes!It’s got nothing to do with vocal quality either. (Anyone that thinks vocal pitch has anything to do with power or strength is seriously misinformed)It has to do with the English Dub changing Goku’s character completely. They completely trashed what made him unique by having him become an imitation of Superman. “Justice” this and “I want to protect” that. Meanwhile in the Japanese:Also in 1997, the author Akira Toriyama did an interview for the Japanese edition of WIRED magazine, and it reflects perfectly on that scene:“There’s how, basically, Son Goku from Dragon Ball doesn’t fight for the sake of others, but because he wants to fight against strong guys. So once Dragon Ball got animated, at any rate, I’ve always been dissatisfied with the “righteous hero”-type portrayal they gave him. I guess I couldn’t quite get them to grasp the elements of “poison” that slip in and out of sight among the shadows.”

Fruits Basket English Dub?

Seeing as everyone has said subbed this may be pointless BUT i prefer dubbed animes because i dont speak any other language than English so it's easier and i hate having to read what they are saying which loses my concentration on the acutal show.

Also in my opinion i find alot of the japanese voice actors, especially girl characters to be annoying and they all sound so young. And sometimes it's hard to tell if a character is a boy or girl because of the voice.

Anyways watch episode one in both sub and dub and choose the one you like most to continue with.

Should I watch One Piece dubbed in English or Subbed in English with Japanese audio?

Honestly, it really depends on your preference. Do you think you can commit to paying 100% attention to reading text off of the screen that’s generally more accurate, but depends on who subbed it? Or do you want to watch something in English that’s the official translation?I started off with the One Piece Sub, but I’ve since moved on to the English Dub. Since English is my native language, it was easier for me to relate to the voice actors in the dub, since they used words that I could intuitively understand. Now Mugiwara addicts, please don’t hate! I do love the sub as well, but that will probably be something I’ll be more interested in watching once I’ve caught up with the dub!Another important point is to be sure that you are watching Funimation’s dub of One Piece. The 4Kids! dub was… ugh never mind, just don’t, and save yourself. Luckily, Funimation re-dubbed the whole 4Kid’s part so you don’t have to skip the first 100 episodes too.One thing I will agree to is that Luffy’s voice in the dub does take some getting used to, as did Usopp’s (since I’ve grown up watching DBZ). But when you get to Nico Robin, her voice is sexy as hell. Just look it up, and you’ll see what I mean!Basically, I suggest you watch the first few episodes of both types and see for yourself!

Should I watch anime dubbed in English or in Japanese with English subtitles? Does watching with English dubs really lose that much? If I watch in Japanese with English subs, how annoying is it to divert my attention to the bottom of the screen?

It really depends on the Anime itself and how they want to portray the characters vocally.  I prefer sub over dubbed due to the context as well as the ability of the voice actors to make it more interesting for me to watch.  Also the subbed version is not as censored as a dub version would be, which is usually more fun to watch in general.I have watched a couple of series dubbed and they aren't too bad and actually were better than the subbed versions.  I watched golden boy in both dubbed and subbed and thought the dubbed version was better (recommended by my cousin).  The character was portrayed better in the dubbed version.  Also Dragonballz I watched on American TV before I even knew it was an Anime and watched a little bit of it subbed and thought the dubbed version was a little better (probably because Goku sounded like a girl).I would say check out a couple of episodes of both versions and see which one you enjoy more.  Get a feel for the character and for which version portrays it the best.  I also agree with Devlin Francis that it is really about the way they translate the story in the dubbed version and the subbed versions.  You will most likely get two "versions" of the story and which "version" you like better is really up to you.  I just like subbed because it's more fun to listen to and more animated.^.^ Yeewiz.com

What is the difference between English Subbed and English Dubbed?

“Subbed” means to add subtitles to a film or video, in the language of the intended viewer; the actors in the film/video will be speaking the original language in which the film was made. So, a subtitled film could be in French, with English subtitles added, or it could be in English, with Arabic subtitles added—etc.“Dubbed” means to add a soundtrack to a film, where the voice actors speaking one language are recorded over the voices of the original actors (speaking in the original language).Dubbing gives the appearance of the actors on screen actually speaking the language of the audience, but results can vary widely, depending on the two languages, the synchronization of the actors’ lips speaking to the new audio, the sound of the voiceover actors, etc. Subtitles depend on the translation quality, but the intonation and timing of the actors speech is preserved with all the intended nuances.

Why do some people think English dubbed anime is horrible?

I don’t dislike “English dubbed anime”.I just dislike badly dubbed anime. It just happens that in 99% of the cases, one of the following is true:The dubbing quality is bad.The person who wrote the script understands neither English nor Japanese. The original is just way better. For me, the phrase that describes dubbed anime isVoice actors in Japan are treated as celebrities (the major ones). They are paid lots of money, and there is honor in their profession. When it comes to dubbers, very often you have unprofessional voice actors just looking to make a quick buck. And it doesn’t help that they aren’t seen as proper voice actors by the general population. Also, dubs are quite weird to watch.Hey, if you’re gong to watch a Japanese anime, with all elements Japanese as well as being made in Japan, better watch it in Japanese right?Would you watched F.R.I.E.N.D.S with a bad dub? No?Then why would I watch something like this? The voices make me cringe too…Basically, dubs lack emotion, clarity, and feel. This is not to say that all dubs are bad. There are good dubs too, but many of them are outclassed by the original. For example, Steins;Gate has a great dub. But the Japanese voice acting is so far beyond even it’s own fellow Japanese voices that the dub hardly any attention. There are some dubs though, that are way better than the original. Hyperdimension Neptunia for example. But the dub for Ghost Stories takes the number one place for BEST dub ever. The original bombed so hard, so that the company told the dub voice actors to do whatever they want. This resulted in a hilarious dub.So there you have it.Majority of the dubs are bad, and among the good dubs, the original is almost always better.Bonus clip: From Dragon Ball Z’s Big Green Dub (see comments)

Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad Sub vs Dub?

I am planning on watching this series, but I am unsure whether I should watch it in sub or dub. I heard that the dub for this particular anime series is WAY better than the subbed version, but I just want to know how many people agree with this. Only answer if you have seen at least parts of both versions. I do not want sub fans to say sub if they have never watched the dub, and vice versa. Thanks!
