Everyone Is Saying That Veterans Disability Will Be Affected If The Government Shutdown Is

Do veterans receive disability pay if the government shuts down?

i think the only thing the shut down would effect are tax returns

Do you think people with SSI be affected by the Governent shut down?

Everyone is affected by the government shut down. People on SSI are as affected as all poor people are. Their SSI checks will continue to go out. They cannot be reduced according to law.

The checks if they were delayed would cause such chaos in this country it would never happen. By law people on SSI cannot save even 3 months of benefits. Most people on SSI cannot afford to have any savings at all. So where would all these people go if they did not get their check? Suddenly millions of disabled people homeless? There is no infrastructure to deal with that disaster.

Here's what happens....

No SSI check, you can't pay your utilities. So the gas companies, electric companies, cable companies all have to eat the bill for the services received. They are going to have to petition the government to raise their prices or stop doing business. So who is going to pay higher utility prices - the rich and middle class.

You can't pay your rent so you get evicted and are homeless. No one is available to live where you lived so the landlord also loses money. He can't afford to pay his mortgage and so he loses the property he owns. Who own most property - the rich.

People who own cars won't be able to fill them with gas. The gas stations will still have customers, but far fewer. In order to pay their bills they are going to have to purchase less gas and raise the price of the gas they do sell. Who will still be buying gas, but now at higher prices - the rich and middle class.

The banks are going to have millions of homes and cars to foreclose on. There won't be enough employees to do the work and not enough people doing business the bank makes money on to hire the employees. Who will be effected? The rich and middle class whose money is invested in these banks.

This country would come to a standstill. People who get SSI benefits unlike SSDI and other benefits immediately spend them and they circulate in the local economy. People who are rich or middle class invest or save a lot of their money - and it does not circulate into the local economy. What little they do have that circulates in the local economy would have to be increased.

So who is hurt most if something happened to SSi? Every last citizen of the US would be negatively affected.

It won't happen. The possible outcomes are too dire. It would be the end of the US as we know it.

How would a government shutdown affect the U.S. military and those that are currently serving?

That's a good question I think. I have read several articles on it but was at the commissary this afternoon and they were announcing over the intercom that the commissary would be closed through Tuesday as of 4 PM today because of the shut down. Supposedly the military though will still be paid as well as retired veterans who are receiving disability or pensions. Luckily I have money in the bank to handle a long term shut down and not being paid that pension but for those that don't I truly feel sorry for if they are not paid when and as they should be. I did see where USAA was adopting a lose policy for those that might not be paid that have things like insurance and loans through them and not discontinuing coverage or enforcing the loans in terms of late fees and reporting people as delinquent or in default of their loans. This needs to get resolved and Congress should not be allowed to go home or be paid till this thing is settled-that's what they are paid to do.

WIC with Veteran Disability and GI Bill?

I have no idea about WIC, I always got signed up on those while I was pregnant. As for Food Stamps, you might be able to get on that one. Even if it's just $50 a month, I'm sure that would help in the long run. It wouldn't hurt to call and ask, or go in for a consultation or something. I'm 99% sure that disability counts for income. The food stamp people are usually very curious about any sort of money coming in--including disability, and probably under the table jobs too if it came down to it. Basically, the programs are based on the money you do have coming in, if that makes sense. Whether or not you can put them on your tax return is irrelevant. I'm not sure how the GI bills would play into it either. My ex husband was in the Marines, and I never got any questions on that when we applied for both food stamps and WIC.

Will MEPS be open during Government Shutdown?

No sections of the military can afford not to do their job just because the babies (from both sides) are throwing tantrums.

The military will be there...the civilians will be at home doing less than they normally do when they are at work.

How long can a government shut down last in America?

Until Congress passes a funding bill, and the President signs it, the part of the government that is unfunded will continue to remain so, there is no “upper limit.”Eventually, employees who are furloughed (told to stay home) and those who are forced to go to work without being paid (like air traffic controllers) will quit and find jobs that actually pay them. If it gets to that point, and our infrastructure begins to suffer, someone is going to blink.(By the way, President Trump isn’t keeping the government shut down. The majority of votes in the House and Senate are in favor of funding both the government and border security, it is Senator Chuck Schumer, Democrat, who is blocking the bill to do so. It is the Schumer Shutdown.)

Do people see veterans who get disability compensation moochers of the government?

I’m sure there are some that do, after all, this country sadly has more than its share of idiots.I’m a vet, I don't get (or deserve) disability. But the government isn't exactly generous with who gets them or how much they get. In fact the rules are pretty stringent, and I’d bet my last nickel that 99.9% of those who get them earned them, and in ways most people would find hard to fathom. If I could be 100% certain it would go to disabled vets, I would happily pay more income tax, because if anyone deserves government/taxpayer money, they DO!As for people that think differently, that those who have given so much to their country don't deserve to be compensated for the diminished quality of life or income, don't worry folks. Somebody different will step up and grab a rifle, to insure you have the right to call their brothers in arms “moochers”, because I’m pretty damn sure none of you complainers did.

Can a 100% disabled veteran own a business?

To answer your original question, “Can a 100% Disabled Vet own a business”, the answer is “yes” with certain caveats. If a Veteran is Rated at 100% SC (Service Connected); P&T (Permanent and Total), the Veteran can receive any other income without penalty. If the Veteran is Rated at 100% SC; IU, the Veteran can only receive outside income up to the amount equal to the US Poverty Level (which changes almost yearly). I believe the current amount is about $12,902/year. That is money earned above the Veterans 100% Compensation Pay. If the Veteran receives more than that amount, a matching amount is deducted from the Compensation Pay. This rule applies to what the Government terms as “Gainful Employment”. IU is granted to Veterans whose Schedular Disability is less than 100% but the Veteran is Disabled in a manner to prevent them from obtaining “Gainful Employment”. A Veteran may only be Rated as say 70% Disabled but can not work. The IU Rating will allow them to be paid at the 100% Compensation Rate. Veterans with an IU Rating are required to complete and submit a VA Form every year listing any outside income.

Why not shutdown the government and keep it shutdown?

your answer to your own question makes so much sense. That is the logical reason it will never happen.
