Feeding Bearded Dragons Crickets Do They Need To Be Live

How many crickets to feed baby bearded dragon?

Bany dragons should be at least 3-4 times a day, no mealworms, no waxworms thosr can cause serious damage to baby dragons. when theyr older they can have those just not very often.

Do you have to feed a bearded dragon live crickets?

My daughter volunteers at a local reptile rescue center and we have had a beardie for 4 years at home. Mine will eat anything I put in his tank..live crickets, canned crickets, canned grasshoppers, live mealworms and fruits and veggies. In fact, as they get older, they should be eating more veggies and less insects. Vitamin dusting is necessary. Without it, they can begin having seizures (mine did as a baby) and it can become fatal.

What can i feed my bearded dragon as an alternative to live crickets?

Crickets are pretty nasty and annoying! Fruits (no citrus) as a treat and veggies at least twice a week (I apologize, I grouped fruits and veggies together and said to give it as a treat, but only fruit should be a treat, veggies are part of the staple diet). Alternative bugs would be super worms (my beardies LOVE them), meal worms (if they are juvenile), and dubia roaches, I despise ALL bugs but roaches work great, they don't smell like crickets, they don't chirp and they can't hop or climb out of anything smooth.

Can i feed bait shop crickets to my bearded dragon?

at the pet shop the man there said bait shop crickets are not nutritious because they are not fed well he also said that pet shop crickets are well fed is this true or was he just trying to make a sale

Can you feed bearded dragons pre packed dead crickets?

I've considered getting these before, but my beardie just loves chasing the live ones and they are pretty cheap... I usually buy crickets once a week and feed superworms in between (along with greens). This works well because you don't have lots of crickets dying before feeding, and superworms are extremely easy to store and live for quite a while. They don't chirp or smell either. I do the same with my leo. Mealworms have tougher shells than superworms so it's a bit safer to feed dragons superworms so they aren't as likely to get impacted or have cases where the insect isn't killed quickly and harms them internally. They are also a bit more wiggly than mealworms. Both my leo and beardie follow this routine.

Can Bearded Dragons eat canned crickets or do they have to be alive?

I was wondering if a Beardie could eat something like this...http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441777402&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302030086&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023694&bmUID=1165852033583&itemNo=0&Ntt=crickets&In=All&previousText=crickets&N=2
or do the crickets have to be alive?

Can Bearded dragons go without crickets?

I disagree with both of the above. Crickets are not required to sustain bearded dragons.

Beardies are omnivorous eating a variety of foods. They love Superworms...not small mealworms but superworms.

I like getting collards, berry medley with raspberry, blueberry, blackberry, strawberries sometimes, sweet snap peas...there's a lot they can eat.

Anyway, I get the stuff together and chop it finely in my electric chopper. Then I get ice cube trays and put the mixed up food in the ice cube slots and freeze them. I pop out an ice cube and let it warm a little and the beardies love it. They dive right in.

Crickets are smelly little buggers. They are only as good as cricket breeders supplement them.

I just make a list of the things they can eat and put them together. My rhino iguana loves as do my eclectus parrots too. I sprinkle Miner-All-a mineral supplement in light amounts

I have a high colored beardie...what kind is yours? PS After you click on the blogsite you'll see ReptileChannel.com
That will give you some other ideas.

good luck!

Can I feed a bearded dragon dead crickets exclusively?

Most lizards wont even recognise dead insects as food. Of course you could give it a try, but usually both beardies and leos just ignore them.
Not to mention livefood is just all round better for them - its gives them exercise and enrichment hunting and chasing them, they are more nutritios, and since you should be gutloading any feeder insects then you know exactly what is going into yor lizard!

If live insects does put you off, then you might be happier looking into crested geckos. Many breeders nowadays raise them on special 'crested gecko diets' that completely rule out the need for insects. The food isnt expensive at all, and is very convienent. Cresties are alos very easy to care for, very pretty and can be handled :)
