Fell And Hurt My Back In My Condo. What To Say To Insurance Adjusters

What's the worst experience you've had with car insurance companies?

I went for a walk one day and I was run down by a 93-year-old man. He was bent over petting his dog; witnesses said they couldn’t even see the driver in the truck. He was driving a ‘73 Ford and this was in 2006. He was doing 60 in a 20 and he hit me about 40 ft from a daycare. That day I flatlined 5 times and I didn’t leave the hospital for 12 weeks. I still have open wounds, massive pain and sometimes have to crawl to the bathroom because I can’t put weight on my ankle. I was hit at 2PM on a Friday. Monday morning at 9AM the insurance attorney was meeting with my family. He carried liability only so they would only cover $25,000 of my medical bills BUT if I went ahead and died the policy allowed $50,000 payment. If I went ahead and died…that’s the words they used to my husband and mother. I left the hospital with $980,000 in medical bills from one hospital; that doesn’t include the two weeks in physical rehab, the four surgeries I’ve had since then or the eight times in the hospital from infections. They just keep telling me they aren’t responsible for more than $25,000. I have refused to settle, I won’t sign any papers. The old man…he died in March after hitting me in June due to stage 4 cancer that he was on morphine for. Can’t touch the estate, can’t touch anything because it’s all in his and his wife’s names; she was 97 at the time. In October of this year the insurance reached out to my attorney and said they found another $5,000 that they could add for pain and suffering. The agony, the pain, the nightmares, the PTSD, the fear, the inability to leave my house because I might get an infection, the loss of who I was all boils down to being worth $30,000 to them. I was 29 when I got hit. Screw you Farm Bureau and screw your cavalier attitude towards my life. I hope all you bastards get crotch fleas that are always where you can’t scratch.EDIT: I’m not expecting them to pay out a dime more than they offered. I’m hoping that they look at insuring 93 year olds with cancer for only 25K. I’m hoping they review the attitude that says “If she goes ahead and dies…”

What is the most inexpensive health insurance?

Do you want insurance or insurance bundled with prepaid health care?If you want insurance to protect against catastrophic illness then a high deductible catastrophic policy that covers no doctor visits, etc is the best way to go. This is true “insurance” Of course this option is no longer allowed in the US due to the regulations in the ACAIf you want low copays to go visit the doctor then you need to buy one of the ACA policies that have much higher premiums in order to “prepay” some predicted amount of health care that you will consume in a year. If you don’t use it, then you paid too much, if you over-use it then you got a good deal.Depending on your health, going with a high deductible and high copay plan may be the best answer. I modeled this when I got the sticker shock from my first ACA Plan back when I was forced to go there. It turned out that if I consumed health care at “about the same rate” that I had for the previous two years I was much better off buying the low-end plan and paying for my doctor visits. And if I had some kind of catastrophic event the additional out of pocket costs would be much less than the savings. IIRC it was something like $6K/year in savings and a downside of about $1K. Well worth the “risk”

Can the USPS refuse to deliver mail just because they can't drive up to a mailbox, but they have to get out of the truck?

Yes. Because each route has a certain time to deliver the mail. A route adjuster goes out with the Carrier at reasonable time invervals, to record how long deliveries take. Letter Carriers are required to 1)Wear seat belts when the vehicle is in motion 2) Set the parking break whenever they leave the vehicle 3) Turn off the vehicle when they leave it 4)Take the key out of the ignition whenever they leave the vehicle 5) curb the tires whenever they leave the vehicle 6) Park only in designated parking spots. So, normally, curbside delivery takes about 20 seconds per address. When a Carrier is required to do all of the above to make one delivery, it takes about 3x that amount of time. So instead of delivering 3 address in a minute, it is one address in a minute. When 10 people do this, instead of a bit over 3 minutes, it has turned into 10 minutes. When you are a Letter Carrier, that is a lot of time. That is 1/3 of their lunch time. Every second counts… every minute is accounted for. You have no time to dilly dally.Sure, you’ve seen Carriers park their cars in the middle of the street, “hop” out and deliver the mail on occasion. But they can be reprimanded, and even fired for doing so - depending on the severity of the action. It is not laziness - for most Carriers. It is a matter of time. Usually, if a person parks in front of their mailbox once in a blue moon, the Carrier will deliver the mail anyway. But when a person makes a habit of parking in front of the mailbox, it is disrespectful to the Carrier, time consuming for the Carrier, and the Carrier is not required to get out of their vehicle to deliver the mail. The delivery is marked as curbside, not a park and deliver point.

What does it mean if my sister dies in my dream?

Dreams are our Soul knocking to get our attention. The subconscious mind undoubtedly speaks to us in symbols. That being said, your dream represents something ( place or situation) that is is dying or changing for the better. Is there a place, person or situation in your sisters life that needs changing? If so your dream is telling you what needs to change. Also consider the feeling you had during your dream which should tell you a lot as well. We’re you not terribly upset that she died ?( your feeling in the dream) Perhaps its a change coming that you consider positive. ( change always is good for us except we don’t want to embrace it). I hope this will help in interpreting your dream.

Why does my landlord want an appraisal done on the home im renting?

Im sure this question seems pretty stupid but i honestly do not understand how "buying/selling" houses work.. Ive been renting this house now for about 3 months and i was told today that the owner is wanting an appraisal done this week. I know that an appraisal is to see how much the house is worth but im not sure as to wether it would be because the owner wants to sell or is it to see how much the house should be rented out for? maybe even both... i have no idea what this means.

How do I prove that I was not at fault for sliding on ice and hitting another car?

How do I prove that I was not at fault for sliding on ice and hitting another car? This question is now years old. The results of any appeal by the questioner should be long determined. So why respond to the question? Because as many posters have pointed out, this is a question that is asked frequently. As an agency owner and representative, this is one of the toughest calls to take. When conditions are at their worst, bad things happen to good people. For real. Bad things happen to good drivers. Sometimes, real good drivers. The straight shooting truth? The questioner is at fault. There is going to be little to nothing that he/she can do to prove they were not at fault. The weather is the major factor here, and if mother nature could be deemed negligent there may be a case to be made.But... mother nature does not provide a path to indemnifying the injured party. So... it falls on the questioner in this case.To add salt to the wound... this is considered an At Fault Accident. I know, it sounds cruel and unusual. But that is how this case will be handled in nearly every jurisdiction. The thing that bugs me about this circumstance is this:Why did the questioner not submit claim for their own damages?Any insurance personnel who suggested that might be in their best interest to not report their damages is guilty of malpractice. A representative with any experience should have known that the questioner would likely have no consequence if they submitted their own damages to the insurance company for this claim. To pay out of pocket makes this situation even worse. My condolences for the result of this loss.Let this question be a lesson to make conscious decisions on whether or not to drive when conditions are treacherous.Best Regards.

If ice from your house falls on your neighbor's car are you responsible to pay for it?

Unless you purposely threw the ice on your neighbors car, you have absolutely no liability nor negligence in this situation.

Falling or flying objects are covered under comprehensive coverage under your neighbors automobile policy. If they don't carry comprehensive coverage, they will be paying for the damage out of their pocket.

If this is as simple as you state and ice just fell without your involvement, tell your neighbors to call their insurance agent. This scenario works exactly as if their car were parked and a tree was blown over onto the vehicle (it makes no difference who owns the tree) or if they were driving or parked and a bird flew into their vehicle. They clearly don't understand how comprehensive coverage works, or they don't carry the coverage. Either way, it's not your problem. Period.
