Finger Nail Slammed In Car Door

Slammed finger in car door, now swollen & numb. Should I see a doctor or just let it heal?

This past Wed. I managed to slam my finger into my car door. The finger wasn't caught in the door, instead, the frame of the car shoved the cuticle about 1/2 a cm down the nail. The finger didn't bleed outwardly when this happened, it just felt like someone had cut my hand off.

The entire tip of the finger has now swollen to twice its normal size and has been that way for 3 days now. There isn't much bruising on the pad of the finger, just a 1/2 inch line where the edge of the door hit. The nail side, on the other hand, looks terrible. The skin beside my nail is bruised about 3/4 up the length of the nail and the nail itself is also bruised. My cuticle, or what's left of it, is filled my blood.

The very tip of my finger, above the bruise line, isn't as swollen as the rest of the area and is completely numb. Plus, I can't completely bend or straighten my finger, but it feels like just the swelling is stopping it . Should I see a doctor, or is ice and ibuprofin fine?

What should I do if I slammed my finger in a door? The finger nail is turning blue and is throbbing.?

If blood accumulates under the fingernail, the following measures may be helpful.

Apply ice to decrease swelling and relieve pressure.
Elevate the hand above the level of the heart.
Use over-the-counter medications, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen, to help relieve the pain.

If the pressure under the bloody fingernail becomes too painful, try taking the following steps. If there are any concerns about doing these steps, seek medical assistance immediately.

1. Clean the finger with some alcohol or wash it with warm, soapy water.

2. Use a pair of pliers to hold a needle or safety pin over an open flame until it is very hot.

3. Touch the very hot needle or safety pin to the injured fingernail.

4. Push the end of the needle or safety pin into the fingernail, creating a small hole. Push the needle or safety pin into the nail until blood comes out. This will relieve the pressure. Oozing and bleeding from this hole may last 2 to 3 days.

5. Soak the finger in warm, soapy water for 20 minutes, 4 times a day until the oozing stops.

6. Repeat the procedure if the hole closes up and the pressure comes back.

Slammed Finger In Car Door?

Okay so I slammed my finger in the car door and the finger nail was all black and blue. The other day my thumb started bleeding and the blue is all gone. Now this weird smelling clear liquid is coming out from underneath the nail and I dont know what it is. So my question is why is this weird clear stuff coming out of my nail?

Slammed car door on finger. Nail is black and some skin near the nail is black...Should I go to doctor?

You should go to the doctor if you like wasting your time and money. Turning black is what nails slammed in car doors (Jaguars, Volkswagons, Toyotas, Cherokees, you name it) do. If you whacked it just right, don't barf here, your nail can even fall off after a bit. Not to worry, it'll grow right back. All this is completely normal car door slamming or hammered nail stuff.

Can you break your finger by slamming it in a car door?

You can do more than that. My father slammed his thumb in a car door, causing bleeding under his nail. After way too much time had passed, and it was getting worse, to a point he finally decided to see a dermatologist. There was another delay in getting to being seen, to a ridiculous degree. When finally examined, it turned out that slamming it in the door had caused squamous cell carcinoma, a particularly aggressive form of cancer caused by traumatic injuries. It had spread to within less than a millimeter of his bone, where it almost certainly would have metastasised, causing further problems. The only way to gurantee the least chance of its spread, the entire effected area had to be amputated, leaving him with the entire thumb from the thumb joint and above, missing.Yes, he literally got cancer that seriously threatened to spread and become potentially lethal, from a FREAKING CAR DOOR! So, be careful when you close those things.

What happened to me?? Slammed 2 fingers in car door?

I slammed to fingers in my car door. I felt ok for a few mins all the sudden i felt this tingling go up my arms and throughout my whole body. I began to sweat like crazy i felt so dizzy and then everything turned into snow like a tv screen would have if u know what i mean..I lost my hearing, i was all disoriented..i could see everything but it was all like tiny little squares of colour. I could still make things out but it was almost like some hardcore acid trip or something, hard to explain..then everything turned white..i couldnt see anything or any colours. It lasted for like 10 -15 mins. I could hardly walk i looked like i was drunk probably..i almost passed out..everything was completely white..felt like i was gonna die at the time. I could barely walk..i just made it back to my car and sat down..felt better when i sat down but i was absolutely drenched in sweat. my arms both killed almost as if i had worked them out and they were sore the next day sort of thing. My head also hurt and felt so heavy. I almost puked too. it went away but now the next day my head is sore and my arms too. I dont know if anyone would have any info on any of this but it was freakin weird kinda scary. If anyone could shed some light on what may have happened it would be greatly appreciated. no smart *** remarks just looking for some info

AM I GOING TO LOSE MY FINGER NAIL?? I slammed my finger in a car door.?

Thursday morning I slammed my finger in a car door, the first two days it hurt to even out my hand down. I kept my hand elevated. Monday I finally sucked it up and removed the polish. I waited so long for two reasons... It burned the first time I tried, and I was kind of scared to see what it looked like under there. Any who, it was bad, but not as bad as I have seen online. There is an almost perfect arch of blood under the nail, with a smaller white arch beneath that. The easiest way to describe the size is to say it takes up the bottom third of my nail. It no longer hurts, but my finger itself itches every now and then. I haven't tried to burn a hole because my manager told me she did it and it got infected, and it smelled horrible. Others have told me that's what I'm supposed to do, because that is what they would do at the hospital. Everywhere I read, they do that to relieve pressure, keeping it elevated the first two days did that for me and my finger feels fine.
So, because my entire fingernail hasn't turned black, will I still lose it?

I slammed the car door on my thumb a month ago, and there is still blood visible under the nail. Should I be worried?

Almost anyone who works with their hands for a living has had this happen. Once the blood clots, it has to grow out with the nail. Lucky for you that hematoma didn't lift the nail and split it. Having to peel off a split nail from a blistered nail bed really sucks, and keeps sucking until your nail regrows to normal length. If you ever do it again, here's a trick for you (not recognized by the FDA, do at your own risk). While it is still fresh and not clotted, take a tiny sewing needle, get it red hot with a flame, then gently touch it point straight in to the nail in the center of the fresh blood blister. The needle will melt through the nail into the blood pool; do not keep pushing into the nail bed! Remove the needle and lightly press the finger tip to allow the blood to come out. Clean it with alcohol and put a drop of superglue on the hole. Bandage it firmly to put some pressure on it to keep it from refilling. If it fills again in a few hours, repeat. It's scary the first time, but there are no nerves in the nail, only the nail bed, so it actually makes it feel better to poke the hole and relieve the presure.Again, I'm not a medical professional, just a guy who spent alot of time in the shop. Consult your doctor if you have any doubts or questions. They'll be happy to charge your insurance top dollar for basically the same procedure.

Slammed my finger on the door now its blue and numb?

alright forget that other dude that answered it.... i had the same situation 3 weeks ago somebody threw a basketball at my thumb and then it went black and blue reddish and swollen what i did was i put ice on it for 15 to 30 minutes then put a hot towel or a small towel very hot so put it in boiling water then apply that for 15 to 30 minutes thats what i did for about a week and the swelling will eventually go away and the black and blue stuff under your thumb wont probably go away until about 2 weeks the least and 3 weeks the most so yah just worry about getting the swelling out... And if i were u i wouldnt go to the doctor i didnt hey dude i injured my thumb right on the day of my basketball game and i still played (even though it hurt like a b****) and like 3 games with my thumb swollen and hurting i dont kknow i just toughend up and i didnt want to make my parents pay the money to go to the doctor
