Fish Breeding And Selling Question

Fish breeding and license?

I have never heard of any licenses required for fish breeding. With the tanks you will have, you will not have the space to breed and raise Goldfish. Petco and Petsmart will not take them, even for free. They get their fish from their own suppliers and have no choice in the matter. A local fish store might accept them as donations, and dump them in the feeder tank. They will not pay you anything.
The only way to make any money from fish is to breed something that is very rare and/or exotic. Not likely to happen. Most fish that are rare are that way because they are very difficult to breed.
Do not even think of putting Goldfish in a 10 gallon tank, and throw away the 1-gallon, nothing should be forced to live in that. You could plant it and have an underwater garden, but no fish.
When you get your 70 gallon tank, after it is cycled, you could gradually introduce 4-6 fancy Golfdfish, or no more than 3 common or comet Goldfish. They get huge. Remember, you will have to have a filter rated for 140 gallons, cause Goldfish are waste factories. Also, for that reason, you must change 30% (about 23 gallons) of the water each and every week, while thoroughly vacuuming the gravel. So you will need about 5, 5 gallon buckets to prepare fresh tank water.
Some people love Goldfish and don't mind all the work that goes into keeping them. Personally, I have a life. I think they are pretty, but I'm not putting all that time and work into keeping them. I like my Bettas and tropicals. Much easier to care for, and even more beautiful (in my opinion). If someone gifted me with a 70 gallon tank, I would have a community tank, with a variety of of pretty tropical fish.
If you want to make a little money, consider walking dogs or something. Fish breeding will cost you a lot of money, and you will not make anything except a bunch of fry you cannot get rid of. Good luck.

Are breeding and selling Betta Fishes illegal?

17 states have laws requiring a license to sell pets. Almost all states require the collection of sales tax for nearly all sales transactions, which requires a registration with the state revenue department.

In my state, there are no laws regulating the breeding of fish, only the sale.

It's not your teacher that you need to worry about - it's the IRS. Once your start selling, you will have to report your income and file income tax, as well as monthly or quarterly tax filings to the state department to send them their share of the sales tax.

Most businesses carry a couple million dollars in insurance to cover the possibility of any lawsuits - like selling a sick fish that infects and kills all of a person's fish collection or any other liability involved with the sale of fish.

Edit: I don't think it's very good advice to recommend that someone hide income from the IRS. Seriously, what kind of business ethics do you have to condone cheating and stealing?

Breeding fish? fun? profitable? some questions?

1) I breed lots of fish, fresh and saltwater. Livebearing fish are the easiest and stay small if you are looking to start in fish husbandry. Small cichlids are another great choice (like rams) and small rainbowfish are another one that is easy, but less common than the livebearing fish and cichlids. Clownfish are one of the easier saltwater ones to breed.
2) Most my dedicated breeding tanks are 40 gallon breeder tanks. They work great for most species that are medium sized (angelfish size and smaller). My clownfish are in a 30 gallon tank. I also allow some species, especially livebearing fish and cichlids to breed in the main display tank. I've also used 20 gallon longs for the smaller species of fish.
3) I have a fish store. I do have customers that will sell to me, sell online, and even sell at flea markets. It isn't really profitable at all to breed your own fish unless you focus on the really expensive species and are really good at it (breeding discus for example is a challenge, and only the properly formed and colored discus will fetch a nice price, and they are very demanding on water quality so take a lot of work, time and money). My customers usually trade for free food, fish supplies, etc, and use the breeding to help offset the price of having fish in the first place. My most profitable fish are discus, clownfish, seahorses, dottybacks. Mollies and platies sell quickly though and take very little work, just you need to sell lots of them to turn any kind of profit and that can be hard to find enough buyers.
4) How to breed depends on the species. Livebearing fish are easiest as they birth live fry. Cichlids are almost as easy as most parent fish tend to the young and raise them for you.

Best selling freshwater fish to breed?

Try egg layers, cherry barbs, zebra danios and honey gouramis are all easy but do sell for a bit. If i was trying to make a little bit of money go for Kribensis, a very nice and colourful cichlid. Just pick the best condition male and reddest bellied female.

Do I need a license to breed and sell fish?

I've never used a license, but that could be different in your state (I'm in Utah); although I don't think you do in any state. It's usually easiest to just sell all the babies to a pet store, even though they won't give you the best deal it's by far the easiest and fastest!

Do you need a fish Breeding license to sell fish online?

No you do not. You can sell fish on sites like EBay and Aquabid. You won't be making very much money though. It's a very expensive hobby and you will most likely need three or four tanks.

You should not breed with pet store fish either if you are going to sell them. You will need to buy quality fish from reputable breeders if you want to sell them for more than a few dollars.

You will have to invest in shipping supplies. You will need boxes, insulated styrofoam, breathable bags, heat packs, cold packs, shipping labels, and very high quality food to ensure your fish survive shipping.

How do u sell fish after you breed them?

You can sell them on craigslist or local pet stores or in some areas there are association auctions you can go to and auction out your fish. Make sure to buy fish that people are interested in, mostly the ones that are hard to breed, or are hard to find. If theyre easy to breed it will be hard to sell them. An example are convict cichlids. You wont make good money off them. Most fish keepers have them and its hard to take care of the babies because they breed so much. So they wouldnt want to buy more. And i dont think you can be too young to sell them. Just make sure theyre healthy.
Ive bred convict cichlids looking to make a profit from them but i realized how hard they were to sell. It took me like 6 months and i ended up giving half of them away because no one wanted to buy them. Now im breeding piranhas.
And another thing when you are selling them, dont sell them for store prices. You should sell it for at least half off. Ask yourself, when you look to buy from local breeders you want to buy them cheap. Well its the same for other people also.
Remember that you may need extra large tanks to keep the babies. Im not talking about 20 gallons unless you have like 7. I mean 75 gallons +. Its okay in small tanks when they are little since it will be easier for them to find food but when they grow up they wont last long in a small tank.
Good Luck! If you have anymore questions ask me and if i dont know it, i will research it for you. I love to learn new stuff everyday. :)

Ghost knife fish sexing and breeding?

Usually, the males are the ones which grow to 30 cm or more and get a larger elongated head, while the females seem to stop growing at around the 25 cm mark and retain the same head shape as younger specimens.

They are particularly difficult to breed. I've seen VERY few people do it successfully.

How can I start fish farming in India? How can I make good breeds and export out of India for a good business?

If you are talking about ornamental fish (fish kept as pet).Breeding fish is not a problem, i have had experience in breeding a few difficult to breed fish at home in my fish tank, the problem is breeding good quality fish and that is a tough job. There is a lot of science put in to breed, you need to learn selective breeding and choosing the perfect breeding pair which needs a lot of experience and knowledge.Explaning the whole process is not possible here, its years of learning. However you can go ahead and start with guppies, angel fish, gold fish, fighters which are easy to breed and easy to sell in india as most of the customers accept commercial quality and low rates, india is a price sensitive market. So if you are ok with not breeding quality fish but in quantity go ahead with what others are doing.OrLearn breeding, take up course in fish breeding.

What type of fish is the easiest to breed and ill make money off of selling them?

Problem is that easy to breed fish are the cheap ones, so you wont make much money off them.

Things like guppies, convicts cichlids, even zebra danios, anyone can breed them, so the wholesale price is almost nothing.

If you want to breed fish that you can actually sell you need to choose something a bit more exotic, that local shops (or individuals) might actually pay money for.

Some of the more exotic small cichlids may work. Kribensis, Electric Yellows, Birchardi etc. Also oddball things like Bristlenose or Zebra plecos. Also don't discount guppies, but you will need GOOD breeding stock, so you can breed pure bred fancy guppies, not just the random ones most shops sell.

But making money breeding fish is not easy, best that most people do is subsidise their hobby.
