Fixing Dress Pattern That Doesn

How much does it cost to get a dress altered?

I have three weeks until I need my bridesmaid dress altered and I am curious about the cost. What is the average cost to get a dress altered? It is a simple, long gown.

Do I alter my dress into a wedding dress or buy a new one?

This dress was actually my senior prom dress. (yeah I know it looks like a wedding dress). I went to prom in that dress with my now fiance. I love the dress a lot and I'm looking to save money and my future mother in law said she would help me alter it into a wedding dress. The problem is I'm not really sure what exactly I want to do with the dress. I want to either hide or get rid of the tulle and add a cathedral train. I'm pretty sure I want to go strapless too. I want to change the dress enough that my fiance won't even recognize it. I'm also thinking that I may be going over my head and should just buy a whole new dress if I can find a relatively inexpensive one. Any suggestions??

I'm fixing to go to bed...?

Yes! But I still have a little bit of work left to do (that I am procrastinating on) but I hope to get to sleep within the hour. My pajama pants are baggy, and they are pink and blue with a checkered pattern. Then I'm wearing a navy blue t-shirt that's kind of soft and stretchy. I'm wearing a gray Aeropostale hoodie too, since it's kind of cold here.

How do I make a skirt tighter at the bottom so it doesn't flare out at the sides and butt? Would shrinking it help?

You can try taking the bottom hem in, but just as with haircuts and clothing, the style is in the cut. This skirt is already styled and cut to hang a certain way. There is not much you can do about it. Shrinking will not change the existing cut of the skirt. If you don’t want to wear it, give it to Goodwill. Their stores have hundreds of skirts that have been donated.

Is there a way to fix a zip / zipper that has opened / separated behind the slider?

Hi thereI hate it when that happens!! It's so annoying. Well, here's how I get around it: I use a graphite pencil and rub it over the teeth of the zip - first above the slider, then below, bit by bit.  I do this at least three times before I close the zipper up, pop it over the top clip, re-align the slider, and then unzip it again.  If you don't have a graphite pencil, a charcoal stick works, or a Staedlar HB.On the occasions that the graphite doesn't work, I use bees wax (candle wax works too, but it mustn't contain anything other than natural ingredients), and the same technique. Another reason the teeth could be pulling apart is because they've been pulled out of true (the teeth look skew, don't mesh properly together). That's easier to fix than you'd think. Simply take a pair of needle-nosed pliers and gently press the zipper teeth back into straight alignment on each side. It can be a bit fiddly, but it's worth doing. If you're needing to fix a zip for a pair of denim jeans, you can actually open the top metal clips, and sew a few stitches beneath the first three teetch from the top -  this makes sure the slider doesn't move off the zipper. Now, maneuver the teeth until you can get the slider to grab both sides of the zip. Once you've secured the slider and the zip, you can close up the metal clips, remove the stitching and voila! I've been sewing for donkey's ears, and I still dislike sewing zips. And repairing them is even worse. Sometimes, doing any of the above just doesn't work, and in that case I suggest you get the zipper replaces. It shouldn't cost too much - it'll certainly save you your sanity and patience!!! Jules

How much does a seamstress usally cost to make a dress tighter?

I just took one in and it was only $30 =)

How do you fix a hole in a men's dress shirt?

This type of problem was so common with my husband’s long-sleeved shirts that I Googled the cause. What Is Causing My Shirt's Elbows to Tear? He would blow out the elbows on his cotton shirts regularly and after a seemingly short time. I eventually gave up and he now wears short-sleeved shirts or folds them up so there isn’t any tension on that area. All the other commenters have given you some excellent advice about how to fix this tear. It will never be invisible, but it may be less glaring and if you mend it it will stop fraying.

How do you fix the headliner of your car when it droops down?

Cheap way is with thumbtacks or bobby pins. Right way is to remove the headliner panel after removing any side trim, domelight and sunvisors, remove the headliner fabric and scrape off any old residue or foam, have a good, smooth surface, spray with 3M trim adhesive on the panel and the fabric, let it get tacky for a couple minutes and carefully place it on the panel---smoothing out any wrinkles. Then reinstall the panel and other trim parts you removed. Check the previous posts on YA for answers to other people's questions about the same problem...has been answered many times already.
