Follow Up Question On My Hard Drive Clicking/ Failing

My external hard drive is not opening, but it is showing up in my computer. How can I open it?

well i know 2 methods:try this does it work as m quite sure that i might not need to tell the second solution cosidering normally this one always work: 1.go to command prompt2.Type the folowing:attrib drive_letter:*.* /d /s -h -r -s3.Replace the word ‘drive_letter’ with your drive. For Ex mine is G drive so it will have the command : attrib G:*.* /d /s -h -r -s4.Than you hard drive/pen drive will open and show a nameless folder. Open the nameless folder.5.You will see all files/folders originally in your hard drive/ pen drive inside that nameless folder.6.Please do reply to me if it work. Cuz second method works only if u tries this and your hard drive/ pen drive does not open still.

Would a bad / failing hard drive slow down my internet speed?

There's no direct correlation between HDD problems and network access speeds. However, what you describe could indicate some application is doing a lot of HDD access and thus also be consuming lots of other resources like CPU and memory. This, in turn, could cause a resource contention between your web browser and whatever is gobbling up all the resources. It might appear to be a network access problem.

Hard drive clicks only twice at startup "sometimes"?

I'm usually quite good at diagnosing computer symptoms but this has me stumped. 2 out of 10 times my computer clicks then restarts.
(Read on)

for example:
computer starts;
BEEP (ordinary BIOS acknowledge beep)
(2 out of 10 times)
CLICK CLICK
*Computer restarts*
4 out of 10 times if this happens it loops back and happens again!

To guess I think my hard drive is failing.

HELP ME my computer has got some sort of hard drive failure?

Download, extract and burn a copy of the Ultimate Boot CD for Windows (instructions look complicated but aren't that bad if you follow them step by step). You'll need to do this on a working computer.

This will let you boot your computer to a CD, not the hard drive.

Boot it to the CD with either an external hard drive or a USB memory stick in and you can copy data off of your failing hard drive.

Then buy a new hard drive and get it fitted - or get the screwdrivers out - and find the discs that came with your computer to re-install everything.

I accidentally stepped on my external hard drive, it's not working now. Please help!?

Hi, I'm having a huge problem with my external hard drive.

My hard drive is from Western Digital and it's capacity is 250 GB. I have ALL of my extremely important files on it and it's absolutely imperative I can those files back I don't have any back up of the files (silly me), and I can not live without these files. I don't care about my hard drive at all. But I DO care about the priceless information on it.

Okay, my external hard drive was working perfectly fine until one day. I was watching a video on my computer (the file was from my hard drive). Suddenly, I accidentally stepped on my hard drive with my big toe. The hard drive made a crunching sound as if something was spinning very fast, and i scratched and slowed whatever was spinning. Immediately, my video paused itself and it couldn't play anymore. After, I unplugged my hard drive and it made the sound that plays when you unplug something from the USB port. After, I plugged my hard drive back in, the beeping noise played again. Also, the blue light of my hard drive was on.

After, I went to My Computer and the following icons showed up:

-- Jeff C Drive (C:)
-- DVD/CD-RW Drive (D:)

However, I didn't see:

-- Jeff HD! (E:) - which always used to show up when my hard drive was working.

After, I right clicked my C drive and clicked properties.I then clicked on the hardware tab and the following items showed up.

-- WDC WD800JD-60LSA5 (this is my hard drive, but I renamed it to Jeff's HD!, so does that mean that my hard drive's information has been erased?)
-- WD (myhard drivee - Western Digital)

So obviously, my computer still detects my hard drive, but it can't access any of the files. Have I lost all of my information on it?

Is there a software like Disk Warrior 4, Data Rescue, (they're for MACS) for Windows PC?

Is there a way to fix the hard drive myself without taking it to a professional?

Please give me some suggestions in fixing my hard drive. Help would be GREATLY appreciated. The files on my hard drive are priceless and I really need them back.

Thank you for your advice in advanced. :)

How can we open a corrupted external hard drive without formatting on Windows 7?

You can't. Once the drive becomes damaged or being corrupted, internal file system won't allows any type of read or write actions. Using recovery programs before formatting is recommended if you've saved something useful on it and don't want it to be fade away permanently. I'd recommend formatting only after recovering your precious files. Else, you might lose the entire stored content. Good luck!!

Laptop makes a clicking noise, then shuts off?

Hello, I recently came into ownership of a Gateway laptop, its a new version, i dont know the exact specs, but anyways
It has been good these last couple of months, its decently fast but it has an overheating problem,
so i keep it over my vent to cool it down,
Well in the last few days, it has been turning off at random,
I will hear what sounds to be like a click, and it comes from the computer itself, not the speakers,
And then the laptop just shuts down.

It does this sometimes after i have used it for a while, sometimes it does this just a few seconds after i start it up.
What is wrong with it?
