For Those Of You Who Think You Need A Gun To Protect Your Home

How to protect your guns from children and intruders?

I moved your question to the Hunting section because you are more likely to get answers from responsible gun owners here.

I agree with the other answers so far and your only choice is to secure the weapon by locking it away.

If you want the weapon to be available quickly then you can use a safe, box, or cabinet with a push button combination lock. The items are available from large sporting goods stores and locksmiths/stores that sell safes. You MUST ensure your child cannot know or guess the combination.

When our son was sufficiently old (about age 14) we started teaching him to be responsible with firearms. When he turned 21 we had him take a Concealed Carry class. He has never had an accident with a firearm.

Should I buy a gun for protection?

Only if you are willing to kill another human being without hesitation. Do not think that you can "shoot to wound," especially if you are afraid for your life or that of a loved one. That is why police officers are trained to aim at the center of mass, which is a killing shot.If you are not so willing, and I fervently hope that is the case, then a gun will most likely be taken away from you and used against you or those whom you sought to protect. And if you have fired it before it is taken away, your assailant will be enraged and will likely kill you.IOW, guns for self-defense only work if one is a functional or actual sociopath.(P.S. There might be a case for a shotgun for home defense, but only if you are certain that you will not attempt to use it offensively during a break-in. That is, you know that no matter what, you will retreat to a safe area and use the shotgun to prevent further attack. Handguns for  home defense are useless and wrong.)

Can a gun in my home protect me?

Be careful with such thinking. A piano in the house, in and of itself, won’t make you a concert pianist, and gun in the house, in and of itself, won’t protect you. It’s the time you invest mastering these things (and they are “things”) that will matter.Good locks, good lighting, and, perhaps, a security system will be of enormous value regarding security. And so will a dog. A gun is just one tool among many. Look: you know your life better than any of us. If you have an interest in guns, fine. If you don’t, maybe go to a local range and seek instruction. If you still don’t like guns, then don’t get one. The gun won’t protect you at all. It’s your USING the gun, should such an unfortunate situation arise, that will protect you. And if you are unwilling or unable to do so, then, again, don’t get one. Husbands that are away a lot and buy their wives a gun “for protection” (with no training, no safe storage, etc) are often doing everyone concerned a huge disservice.

Why do you need a gun?

Partially because I am an avid hunter. But mostly, I need a (several) gun(s) because it is my right. The founding fathers realized that despots and oppressive regimes ALWAYS dis-arm the population. Don't let the liberals cloud the facts with talk of the 2nd Amendment being about state militias - it's not! The greatest protection any country can have for liberty is a well armed population that's citizens are willing to fight for their freedoms. I'm not sure how much of America's younger citizens fit this. Many Americans, especially those under 30,  seem to be frightened of just about EVERYTHING! This became a Great country by the strength of the individuals who endured many hardships in building America. The treasonist traitor now occupying the White House is hell bent on destroying this country. By thwarting Congress and the Senate repeatedly, he shows he contempt for our nation. Would be dictators like Obama are why we all NEED guns! Ever notice how every time the frightened liberals propose new gun control, gun sales go through the roof for the next 2 years! I'll bet this REALLY frosts their asses! I know I love it! I currently own 26 firearms including shotguns, handguns and 4 different AR-15 assault rifles.I hope the left clearly understands that any attempt at confiscation will only bring INSTANT civil war. Fewer people have guns than not, but those that do are NOT afraid to fight for what is right. And I'm not so sure the military would be on the side of those who would take our freedoms. The liberals and leftists have never been friends to our armed forces and our soldiers know it.

My girlfriend will not allow me to buy a hand gun for home protection. what to do?

It's called compromise and you learn this now so you survive a married life!! Your girlfriend is wise to tell you that she doesn't won't you to kill someone. even an act of self defense resulting in murder is manslaughter and you will serve time if convicted. Your best off getting a back-to-base alarm system and then not shot some intruder. That way, you never serve time - as the law does not recognize your act or manslaughter in order to protect your life. Moreover it is impossible to truely prove you did not have intent to kill an intruder when the pre-meditated purchase of a gun exists. The law would ask why not have a baseball bat instead? Or, did you take all reasonable steps and procautions to protect your property and yourself without resorting to end smothers life? These are hard questions to answer but your girlfriend I think already knows you a great deal better than you do when it comes to a gun. Compromise here - install an alarm and ensure windows and doors are properly installed. accidents happen all the time. Your future children could find it - an argument gone wrong can lead to disaster! You just do not know - and it is naive of you to think it stupid that you could not possibly do something so stupid!! Arrogance like that would tell me your not ready for a firearm and I know your girlfriend feels the same. You dishonesty to hide it from her alone might suggest another reason that you want a gun. So, imagine when she finds it and discovers you lied? Never do this - it will end very badly - and all to mitigate a riskbthat you don't know will happen to you. There us to much risk now stacked against you in having a gun - as opposed to having it. Your right to protect your property is not just with a gun and the law knows this. Ask yourself - if I was being burgled at night - would i have the will to shoot someone dead or name and injure a person? And let's not forget that the criminal can sue if you are found negligible and did not do all legally possible to protect tour home.

Is the NRA a self fulfilling prophecy? First you need lots of guns to "protect" yourself, then you REALLY?

Been reading my answers ?
LOL
The NRA's creed says
"That by allowing and encouraging everyone and their mothers to easily be able to get guns, we need to have guns to protect ourselves from everyone and their mothers that we allowed and encouraged to have guns in the first place
Furthermore by supporting and actively promoting the idiot War on Drugs we need to own guns in order to protect ourselves from the violent criminal class that our efforts did such a great job in creating."
