TOPIC
Our personalities are greatly influenced by our environment.

In your essay, identify an important characteristic of your personality and explain how your environment has helped to shape this characteristic. Use your personal observations, experience, and knowledge to support your essay.

MY ESSAY
You could say that I'm an outgoing, and fun person. I believe that my environment, both as a child and now as an adult, has greatly contributed to that characteristic. I grew up with great parents, my whole family was very outgoing, my friends that helped me grow are still in my life, and you can see my personality come out the most around my family.
As a child my friends, and family were outgoing. We lived in a small town so as a child i was outgoing, because I knew everyone. I loved being in a small town you always knew someone. The environment was great never a dull moment. Always, something to do and someone to do it with.
Then we had to move, because my mom didn't like how the school system was in the small town. So we moved to a bigger town, and i got really shy. I didnt know anyone except my family. The people in this big town didn't want to know new people. They weren't that friendly either.
Finally after two years, and six new friends I started to open up more. I was acting like myself in front of everyone even strangers. I liked to dance to no music in the middle of school, or store. Going to a small town to a big town was scary, but after i got use to the environment I was myself outgoing and fun.
I know that anybodys personality can change with the environment there in, either in a great way or in a small way. These are only a few ways the environment has changed my personality, and as i go threw different things in my life im going to go from shy to outgoing.

Would my essay pass in the GED?

What are the characteristics of a satisfying job?
Explain the characteristics of a satisfying job. Use specific details and examples from your own experience or your observations of others.

There are many characteristics that can make a job or career path enjoyable. I will be addressing a few. The main point I would like to make is that, given the opportunity, any job can be satisfying if you know where to look and plan for it. Whether it be in a law enforcement agency, a hospital, or a fast food restaurant, I believe there can be satisfaction in any job.

Pursuing a satisfying job can be difficult. There are many requirements to advance into most areas - However, any job can be satisfying, however low, if you have the right mindset and know what to look for. For example, my first job was working for the local Pizza Hut. Working at a fast food restaurant is and always has been low on my list of priorities for life, and at times it became very draining and stressful. But, looking back, I do have fond memories and I have to admit that certain aspects were satisfying.
The socialization with other crew members, as well as customers, taught me many things that will carry on to other parts of my life. I learned how to respect the chain of command, how to deal with stressful situations and people (and to do so professionally), and how to prioritize tasks, based on importance and need.

In a long term career, I would like to find satisfaction in my job by doing something to help other people. This, to me, comes in the form of becoming a police officer. I believe it will be satisfying because it will allow me to work in other peoples’ lives, adding a sense of security, peace of mind, and protection from people who wish them harm.

Money, too, can be a reason for satisfaction in the work place. Working long hours for little pay can not pay the bills, nor feed a hungry family. Finding a job that pays well enough to support your life and that of your families’ lives is an important goal, and can be very satisfying.

A job can be satisfying in many different ways. Whether it is due to learning opportunities and experiences, helping people, or making money, I intend to always pursue the career that best satisfies my needs and goals in life. That, to me, is what brings satisfaction out of a job.

Any corrections and advice is much appreciated. Thanks.

How many words for the GED essay?

200 - 250 words...approx. 5 paragraphs made up of 4-5 complete sentences.
20-25 sentences x 10 words per sentence. Begin with an introduction and
end with a summary or conclusion of your ideas. Small words like "a","an", "and"
"the" and "of" do not count. Complete your thoughts and show an understanding
of the subject matter you are writing about. Of course spelling, grammar and
punctuation are mandatory. (47-50 words are here) See how easy it is?

Can I use a dictionary on the GED essay?

I don't know what state or county you are in so I can't tell you what the rules are. They vary by school jurisdiction. You will need to check the web site of your local school district. If it's not on the web site they will have a phone number to call.

That said, in general you may not take a dictionary to the test. I took the GED in Maryland and we were not allowed any outside material. I would suggest a book or class on remedial spelling at assist you. Your district should have some classes available to help you.

Not to insult you, but there are a number of books like 'Spelling for Dummies' and 'English Grammar for Dummies' that may help you.

Good Luck.

ESSAY: You could say that I am an outgoing and quite friendly person and I believe that my environment, both as a child and now as an adult, has greatly contributed to that characteristic. Allow me to explain why.
Even though I was never very outgoing as a child I think it has helped make me the person I am today. I believe it was also caused by the environment of my childhood home which was located quite far from children my age, or children of any age for that matter. My mother didn't own a car so we rarely went out. That lack of new places also meant lack of new people to meet.
I was homeschooled so I didnt have many friends to play with so I mostly stayed indoors and played with my brother. I believe that that my lack of a social life is what contributed to my severe shyness as a child.
Then my mother decided it was time for a change of scenery, so she decided to move the family to an apartment complex closer to shopping centers and schools. I believe being surrounded new people and an entirely new atmoshpere changed me from the shy child in the corner I once was, to the social butterfly I am today.
I think that a persons environment can greatly influence ones personality in many ways, these are only a few ways my environment has changed my life and personailty.

Heeeeeelllp! I think I failed my GED essay! =((?

So I took my GED test today, well on the essay part I was assigned the topic to talk about something important about my generation.. So I picked online social networking, I think I did well talking about social networking's impact on people's everyday lives and around the world.

BUT! I think my I failed miserably on my introductory part! I realized it when I went to the restroom after I submitted my materials lol anyway I was thinking I could've written this: "Social networking is an important part of my generation" as an introduction but instead I wrote: "Social networking has impacted many people's lives around the world"

I feel like I did not really address the topic and just talked about social networking in general! =(( I think I may have failed because we are not allowed to use other topics and I think it might have been misinterpreted as a topic all about social networking =(( Please help I am so worried! It was one damn good composition too! But I think it's useless if I did not address the topic.

Thanks for any help and have a good weekend everyone!

GED essay - Pen or pencil?

Maybe it varies from testing center to testing center. We are in a facility. Our students are not allowed to have pens. They take GED tests with pencils. Good question to ask before you take the test. Ask your local testing center.

How long does it take to get a GED?

I got mine many years ago, so it may have changed. In fact, I’m sure there have been changes.I remember it being a long day of testing. Probably 5 or 6 hours. The reason for it being so long is that it covers an extremely wide set of knowledge and skills. To be fair, a test needs several questions for each learning target. Otherwise, one mistake could hide a lot of knowledge. For example, if I were testing someone for their entire math skill set, and only had one long division problem on the test. A student who is great at long division might miss that question. Maybe that student only makes a mistake once out of 200 long division problems, but that one was on my test. Since there is only one question on long division, that test shows a big fat ZERO for that student’s long division skills. Not fair to the student, and not useful to anybody relying on the test to make decisions about that student.Maybe you are wondering about the preparation time. Again, there is a huge span of knowledge being tested. A GED is the equivalent of graduating from high school. That theoretically means 12 years of prep. It is, by design, easier to go through school and graduate than to succeed at the GED. Of course, if you are taking the test, you probably have most or all of the knowledge and skills already. In my case, I had to take the test because non-academic factors prevented me from graduating. I did not study for the GED, other than making sure I was rested and had a good breakfast so I was ready to give it my best shot. The theory at the time was that there is so much material that there is no way to study for it. Now people do study for it. It makes sense to study at least a few areas where you need improvement. One thing to remember with testing is that the goal is not to trick you or make a fool of you, it is to accurately find out what your knowledge and skills are, usually with the goal of helping you fill in the gaps, or finding where your strengths are so you can expand on them. Test designers (if they are any good at it) are there to help you prove that you have knowledge and skills.

GED practice tests online?

I totally blew off my last year of highschool, and therefore did not graduate. I have done a bit of upgrading since then, but I need a diploma or GED to get a job I am up for.

I am taking my GED test really soon so I want to know if I am ready.

I need some practice tests for all sections/subjects of the Canadian GED (I am writing it this week)

I have gone through a prep book and scored at least 90% on all the practice tests in that, so I would like to try a few from another source to see if that avg. is constant and if I am really ready.

Anything would be useful, but Canadian and specifically Alberta based sources would be preferred (I am not sure how different the tests would be internationally or even provincially)

PS: to anyone with experience writing the essay portion of the GED
Please send me what question or topics you were asked to write about as it would really help me get an idea of what to expect!
