Gender Equality In Politics

What does politics of gender mean?

Politics of gender - essentially the difference between men and women in a given society with regard to rights, entitlements and obligations. A broad ranging subject, encompassing an historical perspective (eg the suffragettes in the UK fighting for the right to vote for women); fiscal issues such as differential tax rates (cf married man's tax allowance of old); the right to political representation; inequalities in pay and promotion and differing familial obligations between men and women (eg child care provision, maternity/paternity leave).

There's also a cross-cultural component both within and across different countries - society or employers may have views which are at odds with any equality legislation eg equal pay legislation in the UK, where women are often paid less than men. Religious beliefs may be opposed to the emancipation of women in general (eg. some radical faiths oppose women being educated) or resistant to them doing the same jobs as men (eg the female clergy issue in the UK).

Ignore any ignorant comments such as the preceding one - pity them, as they don't know any better. If you don't ask, you don't learn - irrespective of your age.

That's a short version to get you started! Good luck.

Political equality v. social equality?

Social equality: everyone has the same rights.

Political equality: everyone has equal input in government (ei. senators listen to the homeless as well as millionaires)

What are the impacts of gender inequality in india (political, economic, social)?

In India, discriminatory attitude towards men and women has existed for generations and affects the lives of both genders. Although the constitution of India has granted men and women equal rights, gender disparity still remains. Gender discrimination violates not only human rights but also fundamental rights. Rights are given to all human beings not only for men but also for women. These are mostly seen in family land sharing among sisters and brothers. There is specific research on gender discrimination mostly in favour of men over women.[1] Women are perceived to be disadvantaged at work.[2] Indian laws on rape, dowry and adultery have women's safety at heart, but these highly discriminatory practices are still taking place at an alarming rate.Gender based discrimination against female children is pervasive across the world. It is seen in all the strata of society and manifests in various forms. As per the literature, female child has been treated inferior to male child and this is deeply engraved in the mind of the female child. Some argue that due to this inferior treatment the females fail to understand their rights. This is more predominant in India as well as other lesser developed countries. Sex selection of the before birth and neglect of the female child after birth, in childhood and, during the teenage years has outnumbered males to females in India and also in countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh and South Korea. There are 1029 women per 1000 men in North America] and 1076 women per 1000 men in Europe, but there are only 927 women per 1000 men in India. These numbers tell us quite a harsh story about neglect and mistreatment of the female child in India. Women have a biological advantage over men for longevity and survival, yet there are more men than women.] The figures above support that gender discrimination of female child is a basic facility area. Though the demographic characteristics do not show much or in some cases, anti-female bias, there is always a woman who receives a small piece of the pie.

A question on Abortions and Gender Equality?

Woman gets pregnant, she can decide to have the baby or abort the baby. If the man wants the baby, the woman has the final choice and can abort it. If the man doesn't want the baby, the woman can give birth and make him pay. Male gets a woman pregnant and have no say wether the baby is born or aborted.
If the man want's the baby, the woman can just abort it without him having a choice, this can cause emotional issues for some men. If the man doesn't want the baby, he still has to pay for it, but if the woman doesn't want it she can get rid of it.

Is there any gender equality on the choice of birth?

What are the impacts of gender inequality?

I'm currently researching about global inequality in the continents besides North America right now in my global issues class. My teacher just handed out a research sheet and one of the questions are what the short-term and long-term impacts of my issue is right now. Can anyone tell me the impacts?

Can political inequality be equality?

One could ask, "equal with respect to what?" and with that answer comes clarity.   For example, every dollar bill is "different" in that it has a unique serial number.  But all dollars are "equal" in that they have the same value at the grocery store.  But some dollars might have other special characteristics that make them especially valuable to collectors, worth more than other dollars.  And so on.When we talk about political equality we need to be clear what we're talking about.  Equality with respect to rights?  With respect to power?  (What kind of power?)

Is gender equality an oxymoron or paradox?

it's funny that these women will lie their face off by saying: oh, it happens both ways, men do that too. pure lie!!!! For every 1000 prostitutes and gold diggers, may be 1-2 are male and even they are probably gay and still selling sex to other men. So don't even go there, you liars.
it's also a lie that most hookers are trafficked, kidnapped, etc. they are just regular women with good looks who want great money fast, and thus don't want to work 9-5.
if a woman has looks, she will use them for financial advantage one way or another. she will either marry up, use it to attract sugar daddies or Johns, or what have you! in the office, she will use them to move up the corporate ladder. in school, she will use them for brownie points from professors, and other students. even if she is a professional like lawyer or doctor, rarely will she not go with a guy more successful, unless she is really ugly (which means she can't sell sex). show me one female doctor who married a male nurse.

SO THE NEXT TIME, YOU WANT TO BLAME SOMEONE FOR GENDER INEQUALITY, THERE IS ONLY ONE TO BLAME: WOMEN.
