Golda Meir Is Similar To Who

Golda Meir costume xD?

not sure, sorry

Was Golda Meir a socialist?

Lets see -Golda Meir was an atheist (Though she was pretty ambivalent about it).She was a kibbutznik, and had strong collectivist value of one.As the Minister of Labour and Housing she declared - “For me, that [Ministry of Labour] more than anything else, symbolized the kind of social equality and justice without which I could not imagine the state functioning at all.” and proceeded to enact and implement massive welfare and infrastructure building job generating programme. She, as Labour Minister, introduced the first National Insurance Bill at the Knesset. It covered a wide range of social issues, such as, old-age pension, widows’ and orphans’ benefits (called the ‘Death Insurance Bill’), maternity grants, industrial accident insurance, etc.She also provided instrumental leadership in Socialist International, which Israeli Labour Party was part of back then.Meir in Socialist International conference with Willy Brandt and Harold WilsonHowever, Meir also did pretty non-Socialist things. She provided government funded camps for coming Israeli Immigrants, but did nothing for Palestinians who were being evicted. She was also unwilling to extend the Social Welfare programme to Palestinian refugees. This was pretty non Socialist thing to do, and I consider it a big stain in Golda Meir’s otherwise superb conduct as Minister of Labour and Housing and Prime Minister. I do understand where she was coming from, even though I don’t like it. Zionism was part of her belief system as much as Socialism, and she was committed to build a Secular Socialist state of Israel that would have Jewish majority and will work as a shelter for all Jewish people, who she believed should never suffer from the fate of being prosecuted minority ever again. To safeguard the state of Israel, she was prepared to compromise with the Socialist in her.To sum it up, Golda Meir was a Socialist, but also a Zionist. Some people find this contradictory, some don’t. Golda herself certainly did not, and identified as a Zionist-Socialist.

What is Prime Minister Golda Meir's legacy?

I had to look this one up a bit. I thought I remembered Golda Meir's death and funeral, as a kid, but dates did not match for me. It was probably David Ben Gurion's death in 1973, when my second grade teacher took me and all of the class to her home to watch the funeral on TV. A big event that I had mistakenly attached to Golda. Coming back to the subject, Golda Meir is a bit lost in the history of our country. She is remembered along with the Yom Kippur war and so,not very favorably, regardless to what she actually achieved as prime minister in general and how she managed during that war.First of all her legacy is that of equality. She was the firsst (and so farthe only) woman to reside as prime minister in Israel. For me, not really knowing her (I was almost 7 when she died), this in itself is a most worthy legacy.Second and a bit "bizarre" legacy are the "Golda Shoes".Better known when I was younger, and accoding to my kids, no longer something people remember; IDF women received them when they enlisted to the army, starting in the early 60's. Brown, low heels, laces and mostly ugly, shoes. These shoes were named after Golda because she wore similar orthopedic ones.10000 shekels. Her image was on them. This currency is long gone. There are a few buildings, a neighborhood and a couple of institutions named after Golda. 5 schools, one college and the most notable is probably the Golda Center, adjacent to the Tel Aviv Museum of ArtThe rest are historical facts about what she did, how she managed the country as prime minister during the five very crucial years for Israel. Overall she was a strong woman, Unyielding to terror. For that "lack of flexibility" she was disliked by the left that blamed her (unjustifiably) for not advancing the peace process that "led" to Yom Kippur war.(History says she did try...).Another thing to note was her wish for equality and equal opportunity for all. As Prime minster, she led a national committee set to deal with "childrenand teenagers in distress". The committee acted civil unrest in thebackground. ("Black Panthers" violent demonstrations). While actionswere taken as early as 1971, 1972 to deal with the problems, the results werepresented to the parliament a few months before Yom Kippur war and thus wereovershadowed by what was to follow. $$h,I~

How was Israel like before Golda Meir became prime minister?

A2AI would say that Israel changed not when Golda Meir prime minister’s term started and not so much in course of it - but after it’s ended. While Meir is sentimentally viewed as “the mother of Nation” her term was marred by catastrophic beginning of Yom Kippur War and growing resentment to the ruling elites. After largely not successful attempt to handle the situation by first Rabin’s government, Likud headed by Begin won elections in 1977 ending hegemony of Labor party and in some sense - of mostly Ashkenazi elites

What do Israelis think about Golda Meir?

Israelis were fond of Golda, but after she was dead and thoroughly mourned, she acquired the reputation of someone who was in over her head.  Not that she'd grabbed for more power than she could handle, but the party machine put her in charge and she wasn't the person who in 1973, amidst conflicting reports, could size the situation up before it was too late and say "Ready the forces!  An attack is coming."  And there are those on the left who blame her for not seeing, a year or more before that attack, a chance for peace with Egypt.  The left much prefers Rabin as a patron saint.  The right may quote Golda now and then, but she wasn't one of their own so they're not systematically promoting her legacy.  At the moment, nobody is.

Why was Golda Meir Important? what did she do?

Both were founders of the state of Israel, both born in Russia though Golda spent her childhood in the USA.

David Ben Gurion served as the first Prime Minister. Golda eventually became at lest one of the First women head of Government, anywhere in the world. she was an inspiration for Margaret Thatcher, though their politics were quite different.

Is Golda Meir a great role model?

I’d say a great role model, not a perfect role model. Nine on a scale of ten, or so. Nobody forced her to move from the USA to Israel; she did it for the sake of ideology, when Israel was a very tough environment. She never let being a woman stand in her way. In her later years, she didn’t even let serious pain and illness stand in her way. She didn’t try to hide her age, and she didn’t try to look fashionable. (A certain kind of sensible shoes was popularly known in Hebrew as “Golda shoes.”) She didn’t find time for a proper family life. In military matters, she knew what she didn’t know and so she trusted others; in the case of the Yom Kippur War, it turned out she trusted the wrong people. And when there were rowdy demonstrations emanating from economically deprived neighborhoods, she didn’t understand why the poor people couldn’t just suck it up and soldier on in the same way she and her contemporaries had done a generation earlier.

Who was a better looking female prime minister: golda meir or benazir bhutto?

Lol this is stupid.

How did Golda Meir rise to power in Israel?

By being an activist and functionary with the Palestinian [Jewish] labor party, first representing her kibbutz, then working closely with David Ben Gurion in the Jewish Agency, the de facto government of the Palestinians [Jews] during the British Mandate. Her excellent communication skills and intelligence helped her advance quickly to the upper echelon of the JA and its Leadership Council in the British Mandate of Palestine.
