Book about a boy, a girl, an alien, and Stonehenge?

I read this book when I was in the eighth grade. The cover was of half an aliens face and in the background, there was Stonehenge. It was all illustration. This girl lived in some kind of Stonehenge research thing, or something, with her dad, I think.

I remember this one part where the alien was chasing the boy and they were on a roof.

So, yeah. Anyone know the title of this book?

What is the purpose of the Stonehenge?

Many people think that Stonehenge started out as a seasonal calendar to mark the solstice points, The stones seem to line up that way. This information was important to plan ahead for the planting seasons, summers growth, harvest seasons and to prepare for winter. It may have also marked days for celebration, such as the the end of winter, Vernal Equinox, the end of winter and start of spring. It is also possible these celebrations may have developed into religous rites.

Who created Stonehenge, and why?

Just adding to the other answers: The whole region was evidently a major gathering place, because in addition to Stonehenge itself, there are burial mounds, processional ways, and other henges nearby. There may be one even larger than Stonehenge buried in the earth in a large circular construction called Durrington Walls.Several theories have emerged for what it was used for. All the graves strongly suggest that it was a funerary complex at one point. The astronomical alignment suggests that it was used to celebrate the changing seasons, and more recently it has been suggested that it was a place where people sought healing. There's a path that leads to a small river, and bathing is often a part of healing rituals. But it's all speculation. We'll never really know. The graves are the most solid evidence we have.
