Why are there pens with different colored inks, blue, black, red, green etc etc. Why not there be one universal color, either blue or black?

Colour has meaning. Legal meaning, sometimes. Generally there's little difference in meaning between blue and black ink, but there is a big difference between black/blue and red. What are your finances like if they're “in the black”? Much better than when they're “in the red”, that's for sure. In this case black means you have a positive balance, and red means you have a negative balance. They are black and red because in hand-written accounting those were the colours used to write those balances. You could look at a page and quickly tell the deposits from the debits, or look at the rolling balance to see how often you fell into debt.In terms of office compliance, they may require that you not use red for anything official because red fades quicker and doesn't photocopy well. They might also require blue rather than black for original documents so you can tell them apart from photocopies. In some cases the colour of ink you use might also be a legal requirement. As for green and other colours, they can have meaning specific to the person using them. Maybe you're doing up an employee roster and use green to signify days where they're available, red for days they're unavailable, and blue for days they're actually rostered. Or maybe you just like the colour.

Can u wear color pens on your Army ACU's?

Well if you are in the Army for the official answer you will need to check AR 670-1. As a rule of thumb though Soldiers are supposed to always have a black ink pen and a notepad to write with. It is best to have a pen that slides all the way into the ACU sleeve pen slot. If you have colorful pens sticking out it is unprofessional and also you're not really supposed to have anything colorful visible on your uniform, just black and other authorized camo colors. If you have a NCO who is big on wear and appearance of the uniform it will be a problem. It also depends on your job, certain MOS' are allowed to have full pens visible, I think cooks and medical field Soldiers apply to this part of the reg.

What is the best school supply list for a high school girl? 10 POINTS FOR BEST ANSWER!?

BASICS:
- No. 2 pencils or mechanical pencils. No. 2 is needed for scantrons
- Extra Lead if you use mechanical pencils
- Pens. Black, red, and blue are must haves- multiple colors are optional
- Highlighters
- Erasers
- Sharpie
- White out
- Pencil Pouch
- Agenda book/planner

FOR CLASSES:
- I like to stick with a folder and a notebook for my easier classes (math, english, spanish) and go with a 1 inch binder with dividers and loose leaf paper for the advanced classes i'm taking (biology and history)
- Calculator for math (depends on what class you're taking, check with your school's website)
- Binder 3 hole punch because most teachers won't hole punch things
- Index cards
- Sticky notes and post it flags (awesome for note taking and for textbooks)
- Mini stapler

OTHER THINGS:
- If you're a girl I'd get a little cosmetic bag and fill it with necessities. {chapstick, hand lotion, perfume, pads/tampons, band aids, deodorant, advil, and extra hair elastics. If you wear contacts or glasses, bring those too}
- A wallet with money for lunch
- Keys to your house
- Cell phone and ipod if you have one
- A reading book/e-reader because sometimes you might have free time during school and have no homework to be done
- Cellphone charger if your school has outlets where you can charge your stuff

As for backpack, it's up to you. It depends if you use your locker or not. No one at my school uses their locker, and because of that I stuck with a tote for freshman year and plan to do the same for sophomore year. A small backpack like a jansport or an l.l. bean works well too. Don't get anything that's too bulky or too big or you'll just stand out as a freshman- because most upperclassmen use really small bags for school.

Do you still wear or use anything you made at school?

Thank you for the A2A, Greg. I had to think about this for minute. Then it hit me. Right over my head, as I lie in bed, is the pen and ink drawing that I did in my high school art class. My first pen and ink drawing. Here it is.I took a sewing class, in home ec., but at the time, patterns and zippers and sewing was still out of my range of grasping and managing. So, they didn’t last long! I was able to figure out sewing later in life, and I made many clothes that I still have now.I have a portfolio of more of my high school artwork, but they are buried somewhere.I started playing with sterling silver wire, and with only a pair of my father’s needlenose plyers, I made some simple earrings and hammered a few, again with dad’s tools. I still wear these.I loved working with clay, and I made this cross out of red clay. I later painted on it, and made a fastener so I could wear it on a chain.I had a great time with copper enamel and made a few things that I also wear on a chain, and the others have a pin-back.I made a pencil case one night, using an old leather vest that I cut up, a zipper from an old jumper, and lined it with some paisley corduroy that I had used to sew a patch on my brother’s jeans. I used this for my drawing pencils for years. I took the pencils out so that the paisley lining showed a bit.I have bowls from my time on the potter’s wheel, but they broke and are in the box of ceramic things ‘to be repaired ‘.Before I got ill, I was the type of person that never sat idle. I was always either drawing, crocheting an afghan for my boyfriend, weaving, arrempting to do stained glass (I was woefully bad at this!), making hand made cards of all sorts, making ornaments out of beads (which I also still use, but are packed away), bending wire for jewelry, making jewelry with beads, using crystals as suncatchers to hang in windows, and so much more. The many things that I made in school and the things that I learned to do there, still grace my home and my life today.

Why do we mostly use blue inked pens to write when black ink serves a better contrast to white paper?

Well, for a start it has absolutely nothing to do with photocopiers or any other such fancy modern malarkey.(I can't believe that this question has taken me back over 40-odd years to when I was a small child, sat petrified in front of my junior school teacher in England....more on this later!!!)It is because of tradition and it dates way back to before the 5th century. Originally, everyone from priests writing on parchment manuscripts to artists producing sketches (think DaVinci's cartoons) would have used something called 'iron gall', an ink that they probably made themselves or had the local alchemist brew for them. Everyone had their own recipe but all would have had pretty much the same properties: once dried, the ink changes colour slightly and sets. In doing so, it becomes very tough, durable and water resistant, so it's ideal for any legal or political document that needs to last and remain resistant to 'modification'.Although this stuff created various hues, depending on what ingredients they could get hold of, the most common colour was a blue/black. Understandably, over the years the true colour of the ink started to change: some getting much darker going towards black, others softening and moving towards brown (but when written it was blue/black).Then in the 19th century along came these things -Some time in the 1800s, when fountain pens started to become the preferred tool for scribes, the use of this ink died out. From memory I think it was to do with it being either poisonous or too viscous for the new fountain pens. Initially the new inks were created to mimic the colour of the iron gall type of ink, and to keep the establishment happy. Therefore, official documents were still written in the new blue/black ink, this tradition being kept right up to the 1960s.Anyway people, feel free to correct me and point out any scientific or historical anomalies because, quite frankly, I couldn't care less!!!!I am so amazed that after all these years something of value came from the teachings of the evil witch troll that was my junior school teacher. Before any of us were allowed to put pen to paper for the very first time the above was given as a little lesson. Now, if she were alive today and able to read my answer, she would no doubt point out all the inaccuracies and a good dose of the cane would be pending for me. But she isn't and the worse I can suffer is this being downvoted, ha ha!!!!

What School Supplies Should I Get For High School? 9th Grade?

It depends how many classes you have, but here's some things I suggest:

(Btw I'm an incoming sophomore)

-Pencils/Pens [any kind you want, I use different color pen inks to keep me interested in note taking/reading]
-A pack or two of loose leaf paper
-Index cards [very helpful for vocab in any class, or for writing (planning) papers, and siting sources]

-(?#) Binders [how ever many classes you have, minus p.e.(gym) class.]
I would suggest the flimsy all plastic ones vs. the regular ones or the "zip up" ones
-Binder dividers [like 3-5 packs, you'll probably need A LOT of these]

-Folders [How ever many class plus p.e. (sometimes you have quizzes in gym) I suggest 3 hole punched ones to fit into your binders to help stay neat]

-Notebooks [Again how ever many classes minus p.e.] Personally I hate notebooks, but in middle school teachers really like you to use them for some reason. I only use loose leaf.

-A Ruler [I suggest 3 hole punched for binder fit]
-Protractor/compass geometry set [Not sure if you'll use this, but we started geometry the end of freshman year]
-Calculator [If you're taking algebra I suggest a T9 graphing calculator, it also helps in geometry]
-Flash Drive [I hardly use this, but it is helpful to have when you need it, and they're cheaper this time of year]

-A mini stapler or paper clips
-Your own 3 hole puncher, to keep at home. [trust me it's helpful!]

-Cap erasers
-High lighters [2-4 diff. colors]

-A glue stick
-Colored pencils or thin markers [Yes, you still do projects]

P.E. List:

-Plain crew cut T shirt [but most schools supply a mandatory P.E. shirt]
-Basket/athletic short
-Jogging or sweat pants[some days might be cooler than others so it's good to have pants and shorts]
-Sneakers
-Deodorant [and body spray if you want]

That's all I can think of, have a great school year!!

What is the best slim, comfortable grip ballpoint pen for exam writing, for less than Rs.50 in India, which won’t cause ink spread?

A few people have already mentioned some notable pens. So instead of just giving an opinion, I would like to give my reviews on some of my favourite affordable ball pens.TLDR - PILOT ACROBALL Traditional ballpoint pens are oil-based inks, which gives them certain properties that aren't so great. They tend to be messy and have a faint smell, but they write very smoothly. They are also very low-cost to manufacture, which is why you see them everywhere you go.But in the past few years, hybrid ballpoint inks have gained in popularity over the past decade. They are proven to be smoother, darker, and more consistent than traditional ballpoint ink. The cost was greater, but the results were worth it to many people. Notable hybrid ballpoint pens are Surari by Zebra, Vicuna by Pental and Acroball by Pilot.Check this image.(Pens I've used, arranged in the same order). The acroball review- The Pilot Acroball impressed me from day one with its smooth, dark ink and exceptional grip. You would think the grip wouldn't play into the equation that much, but it can be a very important piece of the puzzle. I use the 0.5mm Acroball in both blue and black ink quite frequently and it has never failed to make me happy. Also, I like to hold the pen near to the tip. But pens such as gripper, pinpoint etc have grips which start at least a few cms away. (Acroball)(Psst.. This is how near to it's nib that I hold a pen. My ideal holding a pen position).(Pinpoint)Another issue I face with pens having caps is this! This keeda inside of me has a strong urge to remove the blue outer around the pen cap and once naked, it looks pathetic to my eyes. Call me a Nazi, but to write, it HAS to be perfect. :D
