Got Scratch A Very Little Bit From A Rusty Fence

Scratched myself on a rusted fence. chance of tetanus?

I scratched my arm on a fence in my backyard. The fence is rusted, but the cut was very shallow and didn't bleed and I washed it with antibacterial soap and warm water and then I applied disinfectant. I know that tetanus is from soil and not rust, but I'm still a little worried. I'm home alone right now so I can't ask my mother but I think I got a tetanus shot in august 2008 when I got a bunch of other shots and stuff. Am I in danger here?

The Rusty Barbed wire fence Scratched me?

It sound like you did the right things, but you should make sure your Tetanus immunization is up to date, too: it's generally good for 10 yrs, with a very dirty wound you should get it updated after 5 years. if you've never been immunized against tetanus you may need the tetanus immunoglobulin along with the vaccine.
other than that, just watch the wound, if it becomes very red, swollen or more painful, or develops any red streaks coming from it, you must get it checked.

Got Scratched by rust, Will I get tetanus?

Probably not. For one, if you are still in school, you are probably up-to-date on your immunizations. Tetanus is one of the standard injections you get. Secondly, to get tetanus is caused by an anaerobic bacteria... this means that it cannot survive with air. In order for tetanus to survive in your body and cause illness, the wound needs to be deep...like a puncture wound (i.e. stepping on a rusty nail that goes deep into your skin). If you're that worried though, call your doc and see if you're up to date on your tetanus shot. If not, just go in and get one, then you won't have to worry about it for another 10 years!

I got cut by a rusty fence what will happen?

Will get tetanus from this rusted metal scratch?

I scratched my back on a rusted wire fence today. I put Neosporin on all 4 scratches and bandaged it up all day. I just took the bandages off and it looks like 2 of the scratches bled a little bit. The last tetanus vaccine shot I had was 13 years ago. The scratches are not deep, but because 2 bled, will I get tetanus or lockjaw? I'm paranoid right about now :/

I attached a photo of the 2 bandages so you can judge.

Cut myself on chain link fence? Tetanus?

I cut myself on a chain link fence, the top of it, I'm not sure if it was rusty or not it could've been. It wasnt a deep cut it was pretty small blood didnt even really come out. Should I get a tetanus shot? It's been 24 hours and my arm hurts a little, like I pulled something. And I got a DTaP vaccine last summer very recent. I might've missed a series (you get 3 shots) I don't know i doubt it and it's a tetanus vaccine, what do I do?

Will I get tetanus if rusty metal slightly scraped a very small amount of skin and then me washing my hands three times?

Tetanus has nothing to do with rust per se. It has to do with a contaminated wound infection that produces the tetanus toxin. Washing is always a good idea, but you can never completely sterilize a wound.Tetanus grow best in wounds, especially puncture wounds. You should check when your last tetanus shot and if it was more than 5 years have another. It won’t hurt to have an extra if you are not sure, but getting tetanus (lockjaw) is a deadly disaster.

I stepped on rusty wire at beach!?

i was walking down the beach with my friend and i stepped on 3 rusty wires poking out of the beach from a torn down deck off a house, it bled a lot, the holes in my foot are very small, i cleaned them with peroxide and rubbing alcohol very well, they don't look bad at all, my foots not red, it's not swollen, i called my doctor back home and she said i'll be okay seeing as i had a tetanus shot 6 years ago, but she wants me to come in on monday for a few overdue booster shots, i'm scared just because my foot kinda aches, i have bandaids on it but idk. i took excedrin to help with the pain. what should i do about it all?! i leave tomorrow afternoon to go back home, should i be concerned that it's aching?

How do you treat a cut by rusty metal? What are steps to take to prevent tetanus?

You treat a cut from rusty metal the same way as any other wound: Firstly, wash your hands thoroughly. Clean the wound with plenty of saline or lightly soapy water (don't use bar soaps, antibacterial soaps or peroxides). Rinse, don't scrub, unless you have to gently loosen the dirt (dab the wound). You can apply antiseptics such as betadine or crystaderm (1% hydrogen peroxide) around the edges of the wound. Don't rub it into the wound as it can damage the tissue! Approximate the edges of the cut with steristrips or similar and cover with a dressing. Change the dressing when you see oozing or every three to seven days depending on the type of dressing you use. Every time you change the dressing, rinse or dab the wound with saline or water. Don't rub! Seek medical attention if the area around the wound looks red and is warm to touch, the wound oozes excessively, it becomes foul smelling, oozes thick yellow liquid (pus), gets bigger or does not heal, you develop a fever etc.Not every cut from rusty metal will cause tetanus. You will need to pick up spores of the bacterium Clostridium tetani to get infected. These spores are found in manure-fed soils and on the human skin. They are highly resistant to antiseptics, so I'd strongly suggest to get a booster shot if you haven't had one in the last ten years.
