Dark, Gothic Writers like Edgar Allan Poe?

I LOVE Edgar Allan Poe! :) Lol. Erm, I don't know of any poets quite like him to be honest, but a writer you may like to try is some of the literary works/short stories of a writer called "Franz Kafka". He wrote short stories and is quite unusual because he often used very VERY long sentences that may have spanned a whole page. Sometimes he stopped mid-sentence and they didn't finish. A lot of his stories have quite dark, troubled meanings. The man himself was considered very "bizarre" and had an image of being a "quasi-saintly outsider". He had depression and social anxiety, and many physical ailments besides, and died in a sanitorium of starvation. :( Many of his works took ages to be found and published and translated, and many weren't found at all...Many the writer himself intended to never have been read. He is known for works like "Metamorphosis", "The Penal Colony", and "The Trial". They have themes like modernism, magical realism, etc...Also, anarchy and Marxism. Wikipedia says "The apparent hopelessness and absurdity that seem to permeate his works are considered emblematic of existentialism. (I don't know exactly what these mean, but you can probably get the general drift). :) <3 xxxxx

Good 18th and 19th Century Movies?

Dangerous Liaisons comes to mind as well

If you were hired by Tim Burton to write the Batman 1989 movie, how would you do it?

Well I wasn't alive yet back then, born in 1997. However, if I was hired today to write a Batman movie, I'd probably do a movie about a non-killing Batman meeting Red Hood, a new killer vigilante who just arrived in Gotham and wants to kill Joker. During the course of the movie, it would be revealed that Red Hood is actually Jason Todd, Batman's former second Robin who was killed by Joker and has been resurrected by the Lazarus Pit. Batman would be trying to stop Jason from killing criminals and the movie would end with a climatic battle between the two. Basically I'd just do a live action version of the animated Batman: Under The Red Hood movie. Also I'd have Batman wearing his Worst Nightmare Batsuit.

Where does the "goth" style come from, and do they have a specific belief system?

The origins of the goth style can be traced back to the late eighties and was an evolution of the punk movement. Though the term was first used to describe music made by the doors and the velvet underground, it were bands like siouxsie and the banshees, joy division, the cure and bauhaus that would define the style. The more extravagant way of dressing up was mostly inspired by the (post)punk movement and David Bowie. As for a specific belief system:No there is not. However, like several other subcultures where it's members are considered outcasts, there's a greater tolerance for people that are considered different by mainstream society: nerds, LGBTQ, transvestites, socially awkward people etc. At the same time, many of its members have not been treated too kindly by that same mainstream society and they will often feel a dislike (if not outright hatred) for many things that are embraced by the general public: sports, religion, certain types of music and television, clothing etc.

What are some reviews of the first Alien movie?

It's an awesome movie. It's a gothic scifi survival horror. It has a great female lead. She's in no way a wall flower. It has in my opinion, the best monster villain ever. Everything it does kills people in a horrific manner and the people it's stalking are trapped in a cage with it.Compare to Friday the 13th. Those kids could have just got in a car and left the area, called police. That's not an option for the people on the Nostromo. They are lightyears away from civilization in a ship that doesn't have FTL capability, surrounded by the vacuum of deep space.

Was Alien the last great horror movie?

Alien wasn’t even the last great horror movie of 1979. The Brood was released 2 months after and was great, at least in terms of the horror genre, as well as signaling the arrival of one of horror’s greatest directors (David Cronenberg) who has made more game-changing horror films than Ridley Scott by a mile.Alien didn’t make it a full 365 days before it was bettered by The Shining. Don’t get me wrong, I love Alien, but 100 years from now more people will be watching The Shining than will be watching Alien.Though by then, more aliens may be watching Alien than The Shining…
