Graduating High School At Age 20

Is graduating High School at age 19 bad?

I'm a 17 year old female and in September I'm suppose to be a senior but unfortunately I'm far behind on credits so I won't be graduating until 2012 and in September I'll be a 11th grade :'(
I'll be 19 in 2012 when I graduate. Do you think that is too old?
I'm very sad b/c all my friends and my boyfriend will be graduating next year and I'm going to
still be in school. I attend a online school so I just tell my boyfriend and my friends that I'm graduating next year even though I'm not. I hope they don't find out the truth. I'm just gonna keep it from them. I even cry about it sometimes. I feel that 19 is just too old
to be graduating High school. It's kinda embarrassing. My plans were to be in college by the age of 19 but I'll still be in High school ! :'(
Do you know anyone who graduated at 19 is it a bad thing?
Let me know. Share your answers on how you feel about this.

Thanks !

Anyone else Graduating High School at age 20?

Please do not be ashamed that you are twenty years old and are just graduating from high school. Far from being criticizing you should be applauded for what you have done. It took much determination on your part at finishing your high school education. Many students drop out of high school at an alarming rate. What you have accomplished is remarkable. I encourage you to attend a community college and to pursue your goal of becoming an EMT paramedic. The best of luck to you.

Is graduating from high school at 19 too old ?

Not at all. Both my son and daughter were and will be almost 19 when they graduated.
They were both born in September. The cutoff date for starting school in first grade was Aug 31, so they just missed it and were with days of being 7 years old when they started. No big deal at all and they both have done well and the oldest is in college now.

Then main thing is you graduate, it doesn't matter if you are 100 years old. Just graduate and don't rush it.

Can I go to high school at the age of 23?

In general, you can and you should. Everyone has the right to get an education, and the chance to graduate highschool and college and get a degree.Education is a fundamental human right and essential for the exercise of all other human rights. It promotes individual freedom and empowerment and yields important development benefits. Most of the time, it is because of poverty, that the teen was forced to stop school. Or sometimes it is an urgent family emergency, and the child had to give up school to help the family. Years ago, a lot of teens had to stop school and enlist to serve in WW2. etcWhen things settle down, and budgets are back in place, the person can always choose to continue and finish what he/she has started. Sometimes, the person is actually already working, and can help their parents pay for the tuition.Often, there will be special considerations. For example, the young adult might want to continue his work, being a working student. Or change his full time job to part time, working less hours to give time for his classes.Going back to high school at 23? Finishing high school at age 20?

A lot depends on what you had going on in life that kept you from school. If it was related to gaining education or job skills in some way that you didn't count as "school" then it could be a plus on your transcript. If whatever you were doing, might, to some admissions people, look more like goofing off, it could be an obstacle. However, no obstacle is insurmountable. I see at least two possible options:

1. If you are willing to work hard and make it happen, you could spend the next two years doing not only college prep classes, but AP (advanced placement) level work. Finish those classes and the college will give you college credits for it. You could finish high school with a year of college credits and enter college as a sophomore.

2. Another option is ignore the remaining high school work, study for your GED and go straight into a community college. Two years there and you can matriculate into a four year university as a junior.

If you have your heart set on a particular college, contact the admissions office, explain your situation and ask them: "What do you look for in a successful candidate? What would you suggest I do to make myself an attractive candidate for this school?."

You might take a look at Lee Binz's website, http://www.thehomescholar.com. She may be able to help you take whatever you have been doing instead of traditional school work and turn it into a portfolio suitable for presenting to a college. Life experiences count for a lot, too, you know. College's don't look at just grades.

And, most of all, believe in yourself and your dreams. You're a good student. You can do this. Don't let setbacks get you down. The most successful people in the world aren't smarter, faster or better than everyone else. They just failed more often and got back up every single time.

Good luck.

Is 20 years old to old graduate high school?

Do not drop out. If you have found a high school that is willing to have you there, stay and work hard to complete those credits. Look into ways to earn more credit faster - maybe night school or night classes at a community college.

A true high school diploma will be your accomplishment for your whole life. Who cares if it took you a little longer than it took some people. A GED is usually considered to be the equivalent of an 8th grade education. You shouldn't choose that. Keep working on your high school diploma. If you get to 21 and have no more options to work on your diploma, then you can get your GED.

You can go to a community college with a GED, even without a GED. But you'll probably have to do some remedial work, which will take time and cost money.

Stay in high school. You'll be glad you did!

Good luck!

I've try to commit suicde many times, but was afraid to hurt them. Now that I'm finally awake in reality I've decided to continue living and want to start a new life this coming school year as a sophomore ( Age 17 ). Do you think I can make it? Graduate at age 20? I've heared taking AP or Dual Enrollment class will help a lot. Any advice? Thanks.
