Normally you only need a permit if you are under 16. The federal guideline is 14. Thats when you need a permit. If you state labor laws require that you have a permit at 16 (never heard of that before) you can get it from the state. Here is the requirements from the federal government. I'm asking this question again because all of the other answers are from years ago, and I have no idea if that has changed between now and then. I am currently 17 years old, so I can legally purchase and play M-rated games, but can I work at GameStop as a retail employee?

Ok, I am a former manager at gamestop, and still work there part-time. As a retail vendor, Gamestop has the right to refuse service to anyone at anytime for any reason.....all vendors have this right. Look at it like this, shopping in a particular store is a privelidge....not a right. Gamestop does have a policy concerning selling M rated games to people under the age of 18. We are not allowed to do it. If we get caught doing it we can be fired. However, The manager has no right to ban you from a store.....it is listed in the policies and procedures manual . Whatever happened between you and the person who bought the game for you happened outside the store. The Gamestop employee has no authority or control of anything that happens outside the store. This is what you need to do. Contact the customer service department of gamestop corporate, the number is on there website. Ask to speak to the district manager for your area and tell the district manager what happened. Your "ban" will be over in no time, actually you can go back there now and go shopping, and if the person asks you to leave again, tell them that you have already contacted corporate and that you wish to keep shopping. If they threaten to call the cops, thats ok let them....then you can sue them for harrasment as you were not doing anything wrong. This has happened numerous times over the years i have worked for gamestop.....you are the customer, you have rights.

Hi I just turned 18 and I live in Thibodaux,Louisiana and Im looking to get my first job, I love and know everything that is Video Games so I was thinking about working at my favorite store Gametop, I have no drving tickets, no feloinies my record is squeaky clean and I just graduated from High School, (well like 3 months ago ) I like being in there whenever I buy any games or systems. The people are nice and they look like theyre having fun while they work. It wouldnt matter what position Id have to work , I mean itd just be cool to work there. But the stuff I read on here, alot of people say " I hate working there" or "I can't be in there for another minute" Is working there that bad, cause it sure doesnt look like it. It opens late and closes early, and you work spend all da surrounded by wall-to-wall video games and systems. Is it the people that you work with that makes you hate it, or the bosses cause I can work with that and the pay cant be that bad I think.
