Have I Missed Too Many Days Of School

I've missed so many days of school?

You should talk to your counselor and try to figure something out. Maybe you could stay after school and come in early in the morning to make up some days. Do not miss anymore, because there could be a chance so late in the year that you will have to be held back. Every school/state is different, they should try to work with you though. They don't want to hold you back if they don't have to.

How many days of school have you missed this year?

yeah i miss so much! HA your not the only one (: trust me im with you on this.
i missed like 13 days this year.
and i go in late like all the time.
and i'm always getting out early.
HA it sucks! but like i dont like school.

How many excused days can you miss of school before getting into trouble? What about unexcused?

This will depend on your individual state. In California, you can miss ten days excused. (Excused means a doctor’s appointment with a note, or a funeral with literature from the event, or a sick day with a note from a parent. It does not mean mom’s car broke down and couldn’t get there. Excused is a legal term.).After ten days, they start to get concerned. There is no set number of days where you “get in trouble” but if you miss 40 days as a senior you can’t graduate. If there are many absences with a poor student, the administration will be more concerned than with an A student, but either way, the district will still care. Letting admin know can head off problems, but nothing will stop those pesky letters. If a student goes on a vacation or something, that is considered unexcused but if you let the school know they can give you homework and keep you up to date. School personnel know things happen. That will not get you in trouble. However, after about 13 days of excused and unexcused you will start receiving truency letters. These are automated, sent from the software. Schools are paid by how many students show up, and they are audited yearly, so if a student is marked as having an excused absence, there needs to be a note with it or they won’t get paid. They lose money for each unexcused absence, which is why they are strict. It can add up and schools never have enough money. The government also has their fingers in this. The DAs office (which has a truancy department) will sometimes follow up on truancies. I remember one girl who never showed up because mom had a drug problem and the girl was taking care of baby siblings-at 13. I believe CPS was finally called. Sad situation.Anyway, the best thing to do is keep school in the loop.

How many days can I miss school?

This depends on your state. In California, you can have ten excused absences. Excused means sick with a doctors note, dentist with a note, or funeral with a program.Unexcused absenses aren’t allowed, and if you have three you will start getting notices that appear to be from the school but will actually be from the DAs office. However, the school doesn’t do much about it if you are a decent student with decent grades. To a point. If you miss 40 days of senior year you can’t walk.Schools are audited yearly so the government will look at an absence and match it with a note. Schools get paid by how often students show up so they take it seriously. On the other hand, a decent student who goes on vacation at the wrong time-well, they understand extra days.Truency is one of the first indication there is a problem with the family so a poor student who doesn’t show up will ring alarm bells. .

How many days can you be absent from school?

Individual school districts have their own policies as far as excused absences. Most will allow up to 10 parent excused absences and require that the excuse be turned in within 3 days. Excuses must be for illness, bereavement, doctor’s appointments, court, etc., depending on school policy. In general, state law is as follows:‘Under the law, if a principal or teacher reports to the superintendent or attendance officer that a child has had three (3) unexcused absences, the superintendent or attendance officer MUST serve the child’s parent or guardian with WRITTEN NOTICE of the child’s unexcused absences. Once a parent or guardian is served with such notice, she or he has three (3) days to ensure his or her child’s compliance with the compulsory school law – i.e., attendance in school. If, after three (3) days of receiving notice, the child fails to attend school, the school district MUST proceed with enforcement of the compulsory school law. In this circumstance, the school district files a truancy petition with the local magisterial district justice. A truancy hearing is then scheduled before the magisterial district justice.’ (From the PA Education Law Center)Many schools will now hold a truancy elimination plan meeting with the family before referring the family to the court. Also, once a student has had three unexcused absences, all subsequent absences can require a doctor’s note, so it is important to get a doctor’s note whenever you can and save your parent excuses for when you have a cold or need a mental health day.Pennsylvania Code

Can you get held back from school for missing too many days?

It depends on your school policy, since they're usually different. For example, back when I was in middle school, the only requirements to move on were to pass the state exams and a 70+ average in core classes.

In high school for me, you were only allowed to be absent for 10% of the total school days, any more than that, and you would get held back or have to make it up through summer school.

Now, in college, you don't have to show up at all, just pass the tests. :P

Can you repeat your grade if you miss to many days of school?

Yeah, but its quite a few days before you have to retake the grade.

I have missed 7 days of school since it started in August. All my absences so far are excused. Can I miss another day without any trouble?

If you are that ill, perhaps you should ask a parent to take you to a doctor. If you do not want to do that and your school has a school nurse, you should go to school and visit the nurse. That way you are there for attendance and may be sent home or not have to do anything strenuous. But if you continuously miss days it can cause a lot of anxiety when it’s time to go back and the stress can cause physical symptoms. It’s better to deal with it now than miss anymore days. See a doctor if it’s truly serious. If not, take a deep breath and go to school. If the headache is bad, see the school nurse or talk to the teacher and tell them you’re feeling really bad and cannot complete the school day in your condition.

What exactly can happen if you miss too many days of school?

Im going into 8th grade this year and when I was 10 (5th grade) I missed way too many days of school (so did my brother who was in 8th grade, 14) and we had to go to court and my mom said they wouldn't do anything to me because I was in elementary school but if I had to go to court again for missing to many days, now that im in middle school that they would take me to JDC (juvenile detention center) until im 18 and my mom would go to jail for 6 months and have a fine of $500 to pay. is all that true?

My friend missed too many school days to be allowed in prom and the administrator won't let her go. Is there any way we can change that?

It’s disappointing, but if the policy was in place prior to her absences and is applied to all students, then that’s the way it is.However, she could write to the admin her strategy for staying in school and ask to be a part of the work crew doing prom setup. That’s an important “community service”. She’d gain experience and have a meaningful behind the scenes role. Plus admins love “community service” vibes. From the admin viewpoint, she didn’t care enough about herself or her academic record or the school to earn the party of prom. From her standpoint, she still wants to belong.Writing the admin is a great first step in managing the mess she’s made. Most admins want students to feel they belong. They also want students to show up for school. It’s usually in the student’s best interest to do so.It’s definitely in the school’s financial interest that students show. That’s how school’s get paid.Best to you and her!
