In a bad way... really.. But not in the beginning... Ulysses and other have contributed to rise the will to discover and conquest other lands... Later on... Greeks thought they were invincible!... so strong they was... And finally... Where is the so big Empire of Greece? Lays down under the time run out.... This is the way humanity uses to be... Why is it that most people complain about the reservation system based on caste only after their failure in a competitive exam? If you know beforehand that we have this system, and complain only when you fail, isn't it a disguised excuse?
I am making it anonymous because I am not answering it generally and am making it personal.I am from so called 'high' caste of our society. Studied in a private english medium school for my complete school life and was not even aware with how caste affects people in our country as cleaners or household help all were treated very respectfully at my house. So I used to think that caste discrimination was a problem of past. I knew about the reservation system but had never gone into category wise cut-offs.My first experience with reservation system was when I and one of my friends who is a brahmin went to IIT Kanpur to buy our forms cycling from our homes. We were waiting in a line and knew that wait would be more than an hour. Then a Honda city came, stopped in front of the next window bought two SC forms for half the price and drove away. That day I felt as if I was the untouchable that we have read about in our books. My friends with whom I have been studying for so many years, suddenly I started discovering categories they belong to as I never concerned myself earlier with such matters before.Then I got into a state govt. engineering college which was a decent enough college. There I saw that the SC/ST students used to hold meetings among themselves. No one separated them in the first few months or mentioned their caste, they did that themselves. Now as my group of friends consisted people from different categories over course of time I found that none of reserved category candidates came from a deprived background. I don't blame them for it. If someone is handing out advantages to you, you would definitely take it.Then at end of engineering you start giving another set of exams and start getting your results. Some students score very well but when final results are out a totally different set of students is selected because they belonged to some other category.This made me think, how were they deprived. They studied in same colleges as me, ate the same food as me, at the same table, in the same plate as me, paid less fees than me, have more family earnings than me. But when it is a matter of opportunities they only need to do half as well as me.I don't find it fair. I feel as a modern day untouchable.P.S. I have tried to make it short but it was not these 2-3 incidents. These were some I found worth mentioning.
