The Carlyle on the UES. Usually most of the UES Hotels re pricey. The St.Regis can also be included. As well as Plaza Athenee.

Someone posted The Plaza. FYI, the Plaza was closed over a year ago to start construction for the condos to be sold in the building. What a shame. I used to enjoy afternoon tea with my mother there on special occasions.

The Waldorf Astoria can be expensive at times, but not in the category of Most Expensive. It is owned by Hilton, therefore they sometimes have some good package rates available.

Anyone Know Anything About Houston, TX?

WOW...Juan is quite comprehensive. All I can tell you is that the Hotel Derek is located in a really great spot (and no, in that area there really isn't much that is more reasonably priced). The hotel is located at Loop 610 & Westheimer which is one block from the world renowned Houston Galleria (Huge mall) and very near many of Houstons' hot spots for nightlife. Take a cab...
As far as dining, your hotel is centrally located and you can pick & choose as you like. Sorry, I would recommend some places but I don't know what you like and Houston has it all.
If the consierge at the Derek doesn't know about what you are interested in just call the St. Regis Hotel (formerly The Ritz-Carlton & is only a couple blocks away from your hotel) and ask for the consierge...he will answer all of your questions and you are getting a free service as they will presume that you are a guest there & are paying a fortune.
I know...dishonesty isn't good but you only have ONE weekend...Make the best of it and please don't think badly of me.
Enjoy your trip!

What's the best place for afternoon tea in San Francisco?

It depends on the type of tea you want to take.  I've starred my favorites for each type, but listed a few options:CASUAL*SamovarAsian-inspiredhttp://samovarlife.com/Gorgeous, high-end tea selection, knowledgable staff, very good food. This is my favorite place for tea in the city. I've also heard good things about Taste in Hayes Valley (http://www.yelp.com/biz/taste-sa...), which seems to have a similar take. The Summithttp://www.thesummit-sf.com/This is a coffee shop that takes its tea very seriously. Lovely selection and good brewing equipment. Good food too.MODERATE*Leland Tea CompanyBritish-inspiredhttp://www.lelandtea.com/the-men... If you want a simple, British tea with scones and jam and the rest, but don't want to spend as much, this is a nice afternoon place to stop with the feel of a nice coffee shop. Sweet.Lovejoys Tea RoomHomeyhttp://www.lovejoystearoom.com/This is the place to go if you have kids, and I've been to several bridal and baby showers there. It's not my thing, but many people love it, and it does have a very feminine, traditional feel about it. EVENT*Ritz-Carlton Lobby LoungeSundays onlyFull tea and high tea service in the British tradition. The food is incredible, there's often a harpist, and the service is top notch. It's expensive and worth it, the tea is exceptional. The Fairmont Hotel's Lauriol CourtSaturday and Sundayshttp://www.fairmont.com/sanfranc...Very similar to the Ritz, but slightly less appealing surroundings.
