I keep the bottom shelf of the fridge stocked with cut fresh veggies and fruit. On the counter beside the fridge is a supply of paper plates so my kids can help themselves to this any time they want to snack.

Healthy school snacks for school?

My canteen at school has no healthy food in it whatsoever, so i cant get anything from there. Also, it would need to be quite small and not messy to eat as i don't have a long lunch to eat.
thanks

Healthy, filling after school snacks?

After school i'm always hungry and lately i've noticed i've been eating some really unhealthy stuff for myself. I'm trying to think of quick things to make after school that will fill me till dinner. So far i've got nachos with melted cheese and salsa. Any ideas? thanks for helping my health!

I'm a teacher, and I get hungry during the day, too!
Eating PROTEIN can really help curb hunger pangs, and food HIGH IN FIBER are good, too!

Healthy things I like for myself:

* cheesy foods! (cheese and crackers, string cheese, or even a cold quesadilla)
* nutty foods! (almonds & dried apricots, peanut butter and honey on a grain bagel, or my ALL TIME FAVORITE: almond butter on bananas-try it!)
* dairy foods! (yogurt, easy smoothies -you can mix fruit yogurt and milk and shake it in an aluminum water bottle, no blender needed)
* fruity foods! (dried fruits, apples, grapes, you know...)
* meaty foods! (beef jerky, lunch meat wrapped up in a tortilla with cream cheese...)

if you want to make something a little sweet, check out these HEALTHY "cookie dough" balls. they're not really made from cookie dough, they actually have raw cashews and dates in them:

These should give you a little extra boost to get you through the day!

Healthy Snacks when I go to Boarding School?

Some suggestions:

dried fruits of any kind like raisins, cranberries, apricots, prunes, etc. Some even come packaged in individuals servings these days to keep fresher longer.

Unprocessed nuts such as whole plain almonds or walnuts.

Dark chocolate nibs where they are at least 70% cacao. You can use these to make your own snack mix with dried fruit & nuts.

Mostly natural peanut butter that can be used on crackers or on fresh fruit or celery as a treat.

small cans or pouches of seafood in water such as: tuna, salmon, or sardines (if you like them)

some grocery stores are selling multi-packets of indivual sized servings of salsa medium or spicey. Salsa can be used for multiple types of snacks.

whole grain rye crackers such as kava or wasa brand.

tea bags of your favorite teas: black, green, white, herbal (like raspberry zinger which makes a great iced tea beverage)

Read the labels on packages of various breakfast and snack bars as many are so processed and contain so many unhealthy ingredients. Check calorie, salt, & fat levels as well.

Just because the name says its nutritious or healthy doesn't make it so.

What are some healthy snack ideas for elementary school aged children?

Please, please do not give your young children snacks. I guess you may be in the USA but be aware that in Britain and other European countries children simply are not allowed to take snack food items to school.Give your child a breakfast before they set off for school. Toast and maybe an egg, as well as a piece of fruit if possible. Milk or water to drink. Then if there is a school canteen make sure your child sits down with their schoolmates for a proper cooked lunch with knife and fork. If there isn’t a canteen at all - could that really be the case in the USA? - you will have to make up a lunchbox with a sandwich or salad, as well as fruit. No sweetened or junk food. The school should not allow the children access to their lunchboxes before the midday break -that is something parents should insist on. Children bringing packed lunches should also sit down properly at tables to eat together and socialise. The child should also have a light meal at the school day. That does NOT count as a snack. Finally the family should sit down at a table together for the evening meal.Helping them get into a good regular pattern of structured eating is one of the parents’ prime duties in setting their child up for life.

What are some healthy microwavable foods for a school lunch?

Ideal healthy lunches for kids should include something from each food group to replenish energy, provide protein for muscle strength, and fruit and vegetables for vitamins, minerals and fibre. The traditional choice for lunchboxes is usually a sandwich. However, it is best to bake your own whole wheat or multigrain bread for your children going to school. However, avoid white bread. Try oatcakes or rye crackers with hummus, spicy chicken wraps, tortilla wraps with cheese, beans or chicken laden with mixed salad leaves. You could also try a flask of soup or some leftovers from dinner the night before.

Healthy school lunch ideas?!?

im having trouble comming up with some healthy school lunch ideas.
i normally like to eat between 500-600 calories with breakfast & lunch combined.
for example i will usually have a bowl of oatmeal or an egg sandwich or a bowl of cereal for 200 calories and then for lunch i will usually have 2 slices of 40 calorie bread with 1 tbs of peanut butter along an apple or a cup of grapes.
that being said, what are some healthy filling lunch ideas for in between 200-300 calories?!
i dont like just eating one thing, i like having a main thing (like a sandwich) along with a side (apple/grapes/veggies)

and i dont have any wraps or turkey and i dont like to bring salad to school. thanks!

oh and if you could find a way to incorporate a 160 calorie nature valley bar in there also with out going over 300 calories that would be great!!!!!

Healthy school lunch ideas?

I'm a high school student who really needs to lose weight. I'm about 50 pounds overweight. I've been working out for an hour a day for the past week, and already feel better. I've also been eating well. The problem is, I'm going back to school in a few days, and need some healthy lunch recipes. I've been eating foods that can't really be packaged and sit in a lunch bag for four hours or so. Do any of you have some healthy recipes? Also, do you recommend any type of thermos or ice pack or something, so I can bring yogurt or cheese? Thanks so much!
