You can, depending on the customer service representative that works with you when you go and get the phone and contract done. Alot of the reps. don't really care how old you are just as long as you have the credit and the credit card to take care of bill. Alot of the reps. that are young don't really care how old you are, because they are just trying to get their commission for the day, and with you buying a phone you are helping them get a few dollers. But if I were you I would just try.... and just see if they turn you away.. You really have nothing to lose.

My brother wants me to take out a phone contract for him in my name since his credit is bad, but he will pay for the contract. Should I do it?
My thoughts:Get an extra phone on your existing plan. If your brother pays you in a timely manner, leave the phone service on and it’ll be “his” phone. If he decides not to pay, then simply ask for the return of the phone. If he gives you any excuses, give him a date to get current or you’ll have the phone line terminated. Then follow through if he doesn’t meet his obligations.I would suggest sitting down and proposing this to him. If he balks in any manner, then you already have proof that he’s going to screw up the phone contract that he wants YOU to take out for him. At that point you can decide if you want to continue with any further discussion about a phone or simply table things right there.Low cost carriers like Boost Mobile offer unlimited plans (which, unfortunately, offer crappy data packages) and these phones work in the same number of locations that contract service plans do. Why your brother isn’t considering one of those and leaving you out of his financial issues is something that you should consider asking him.

You can find the same device for cheaper on Ebay,Swappa etc. and paying less for the device. If your phone is unlocked you can just leave your carrier and go to T-Mobile or other GSM (sim carrier). So paying for your device and not been stuck in a contract you save some money or a lot in some cases, and you have full freedom.

you don't have to have a credit card to have credit. everyone has credit regardless. some better than others of course. as a new consumer turning 18, you will most likely have a fresh slate, and if you go get a phone from verizon they will run your credit and most likely approve you. if by chance you don't get approved, you can still get the phone and contract by paying a deposit in the amount that they disclose to you upon checking your score, so no worries either way. have fun and i recommend a droid =)
Cell Phone Contract AT&T eBay selling just HELP PLEASE?
Alright. So I listed my iPhone 4 on ebay because its screen was cracked. They've paid but I just recently found out that I'm not going ot get the money until they receive my cell phone. I was planning on getting the money, buying a new phone, and shipping out my old phone. UNFORTUNATELY eBay won't let me have the money before I sell it! Hahaha. SOOOOO, Should I just ship out my phone to the seller and order my new phone later and be phoneless for like a week? If I take my sim card out, will the actual phone still have a contract? I won't be ending the contract until I get my new iPhone. This is so confusing. I'm not sure If I made any sense.... Can I sell my current iPhone STILL on a contract and just remain phoneless? Just for a week? Is that possible? Or will I need to order the new phone and THEN ship it? PLEASE HELP. PLEASE?

As long as you abide by the terms of the contract and follow the procedure and pay the bills and fees and whatever, then NO, it will NOT hurt, but will actually help your credit as any bill you pay in full and on time helps. If you simply default and NOT pay the bill, then YES, it will hurt just like any other unpaid bill hurts your credit.
